When The Kooks are in the studio they’re focused and most importantly, sober. Watch Hugh and Luke explain their reasoning below.
The Kooks released a new album called “Junk of the Heart,” and you would think Hugh and Luke would be very excited about it. Well, they seemed rather indifferent to be honest. We spoke about that and why they don’t care about critics.

Graffiti6 is starting to make their North American invasion, and they are hitting up the Tonight Show. Does this sound familiar? Well the Beatles made the exact same journey over 40 years ago. Naturally, @jordans_life had to make some comparisons.
Nick plays World of Warcraft. Not only that, he’s the head of his guild, demonstrating that it IS possible to juggle being a hardcore gamer with being a top-selling recording artist.
During a LIVE interview on andPOP.com Nick Carter gave out a number and took phone calls from his fans. These were real phone calls from real fans who we gave exclusive access to one of the biggest recording artists of our generation.
There were great questions about music, fitness, the backstreet boys but the most popular question, however, was about his underwear. In this clip Nick talks about his his ‘Haynes’ and covering his fans with glow in the dark paint.
When releasing new music today, half the battle is online promotion. However, contests, signed merch and giveaways aren’t always the best solutions. When working on their latest album, Hedley came up with a brilliant idea, they decided to make trailers.
It’s hard to prepare for an interview with Hedley. So in this interview, we threw caution to the wind, got a 24 of beer and broadcast the interview live on our USTREAM (andPOP.tv). Eventually Jacob, Dave and @jordans_life ended up talking about hairy legs, their newest music video and more.
Diamandis from Marina and The Diamonds talks to us about her very serious disease. It’s called synaesthetic. And we lied, it’s not a disease. More like a cool condition. Diamandis explains further.

The 2010 MTV VMAs took place last night in Los Angeles, and you know what that means – Tons of fabulous celebs walked the white carpet to watch comedienne Chelsea Handler host the MTV event of the year. Didn’t catch the live broadcast? Here are some of the highlights from Sunday’s show.
Taylor Swift delivered a surprise performance of a new song from her upcoming album, Speak Now. Swifty wrote the song after last year’s VMAs, where her acceptance speech for best female video was hijacked by the one and only Kanye West. We’re so glad that Taylor finally forgave Kanye for his actions. We’ve lost months and months of sleep over the sheer tragedy of Kanyegate 2009, so it’s nice to finally be able to rest easy.
If that wasn’t enough to put the “imma let you finish” jokes to bed, Kanye himself closed the show with a killer new track off of his new album toasting all the douchebags, jerkoffs, and assholes of the world. We smell an epic comeback in the near future…
Lady Gaga was the night’s big award winner, finally taking home enough statuettes to finish the moonman ball gown we’re sure she’s been working on. Gaga also announced that her next album would be titled “Born This Way” before singing a few lines from the upcoming title track. We should mention that she did all of this while wearing a minidress made out of what looked to be raw meat. We always new Gaga was a “rare” artist! Heh.
And of course, who could forget the Beebz? Bieber fever was thick in the air as the world’s smoothest 16 year old hit the stage to perform (read: lipsync) a mashup of his hits “Baby” and “Somebody to Love.” He also took home the best new artist VMA, though it took him a few tries to find his way up to the stage.
Though the show lacked the high-calibre drama of its 2009 brethren, we think it was still an entertaining way to keep busy on a Sunday night. What was your favourite part of the 2010 VMAs? Did the show live up to your expectations?
Also check out this performance by the Biebs last night.
Comedian and “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” co-star Russell Brand has been named as the host of this year’s MTV Video Music Awards.
The 33-year-old Brit will join the company of such past VMA hosts as Chris Rock, Jack Black and Sean “Diddy” Combs when he takes the stage at Los Angeles’ Paramount Pictures Studios on Sept. 7.
“(It will be) good to preside over what is sure to be only vaguely coordinated televised insanity,” Brand told the AP from London on Thursday.
He added, “That’s how I’ve made my name in this country: flying very much by the seat — and the crotch — of my pants.”
Brand has had a relatively low profile in the States compared to his native U.K., where he is known as a stand-up and sketch comedy performer, TV show presenter, radio host and author of the autobiography “My Booky Wook.”
His other film credits include “Penelope,” the U.K. film “St. Trinian’s” and the upcoming Adam Sandler fantasy-comedy “Bedtime Stories,” which hits theatres in December.
You don’t need an introduction to the MTV Video Music Awards, because if you’re reading this music column, you’re probably a fan of music. And if you’re a fan of music, then you’ve already heard MTV tell you that the VMAs are unpredictable, entertaining and unlike any other award show.
And hey, while I enjoy challenging everything that is said by marketers and the spinners in public relations, I must agree.
With that said, here are my predictions for the 2005 MTV VMAs:
Video of the Year
Nominees: Coldplay, “Speed of Sound”; Kanye West, “Jesus Walks”; Green Day, “Boulevard of Broken Dreams”; Snoop Dogg, featuring Pharrell, “Drop It Like It’s Hot”; Gwen Stefani, “Hollaback Girl.”
Who should win? Without question, Kanye West. West’s video for Jesus Walks has every element of a movie, and while every artist will argue that their video is a mini-movie, West’s is one of two who are actually telling the truth. The other one who is worthy of this nomination is Green Day for their cinematic adventure they call “Boulevard of Broken Dreams.” But unfortunately they were just outdone by Kanye.
Who will win? Kanye West. The voters aren’t going to make the mistake of causing a shock by picking someone else. West has the hype, but backs it up with good music, and in this case, a good music video.
Best Male Video
Nominees: Nominees: 50 Cent, “Candy Shop”; Kanye West, “Jesus Walks”; Beck, “E-Pro”; Usher, “Caught Up”; John Legend, “Ordinary People.”
Who should win? Usher’s acting performance in Caught Up may earn him more movie rolls, but West again should take this. If the category was judging acting abilities, the award goes to Usher. If the category awarded best song, then John Legend deserves to give an acceptance speech. Beck deserves an award for bizarre creativity, and 50 Cent deserves nothing. But West should win.
Who will win? It will be a big night for Ye.
Best Female Video
Nominees: Amerie, “1 Thing”; Mariah Carey, “We Belong Together”; Gwen Stefani, “Hollaback Girl”; Shakira, featuring Alejandro Sanz, “La Tortura”; Kelly Clarkson, “Since U Been Gone.”
Who should win? Kelly Clarkson delivered the best performance in her slightly-above-average music video. It’s a weak category, but Clarkson wins by a hair. Where’s Missy this year?
Who will win? All the signs are pointing to Gwen Stefani losing, since she may skip the VMAs after not securing a performance spot. But MTV won’t hold a grudge and will give her the moonman.
Best Group Video
Nominees: Black Eyed Peas, “Don’t Phunk With My Heart”; The Killers, “Mr. Brightside”; Destiny’s Child, featuring T.I. & Lil’ Wayne, “Soldier”; U2, “Vertigo”; Green Day, “Boulevard of Broken Dreams.”
Who should win? It’s a battle of Green Day against U2, and the young punk clan deserves this title.
Who will win? Green Day earned a nomination for Best Video, U2 did not. Ergo, MTV will award this to Green Day. A better bet is putting money on the Black Eyed Peas to lose this category.
Best Rap Video
Nominees: Eminem, “Just Lose It”; T.I., “U Don’t Know Me”; The Game & 50 Cent, “Hate It Or Love It”; Ying Yang Twins, “Wait (The Whisper Song)”; Ludacris, “Number One Spot.”
Who should win? Say what you will about Eminem, but he gave one hell of an entertaining ensemble with his Lose It video. Sure, the song sounded like half a dozen other songs he has released, but this is judging the video.
Who will win? Poor Ludacris. He released his best video to date with Number One Spot, only to be beat by Slim Shady.
Best R&B Video
Nominees: Alicia Keys, “Karma”; Mariah Carey, “We Belong Together”; Ciara, featuring Ludacris, “Oh”; Usher & Alicia Keys, “My Boo”; John Legend, “Ordinary People.”
Who should win? There’s nothing special about the videos by Keys, Carey, or Ciara. The Usher and Keys video deserves the nomination but Legend’s Ordinary People deserves the win for two reasons. First, the director took a bold move by filming the whole thing in black and white, with Legend simply sitting by his piano for much of it. A bold move, and it paid off. Second, they redid the song to add more instruments. The addition will make the hair on your arm stand up.
Who will win? MTV is so happy to have Mariah back, they will give her the award.
Best New Aritst Video
Nominees: Ciara, “1,2 Step”; The Game, “Dreams;” John Legend, “Ordinary People”; The Killers, “Mr. Brightside”; My Chemical Romance, “Helena.”
Who should win? This could be the toughest category, with all five artists becoming huge act this year. Who should win though? Give to to JL again.
Who will win? Legend probably won’t take another category, so expect The Killers to take the stage for this award.
Best Hip-Hop Video
Nominees: Common, “Go”; Nas, featuring Olu Dara, “Bridging The Gap”; Kanye West, “Jesus Walks”; Snoop Dogg, featuring Pharrell, “Drop It Like It’s Hot”; Missy Elliott, featuring Ciara & Fat Man Scoop, “Lose Control.”
Who should win? Nas takes hip-hop videos to a new level with his video, though so does Kanye. Since I can’t give ties, I’ll award this to Nas, simply because his video makes you smile more.
Who will win? It’s a Kanye sweep.

There’s nothing like an MTV awards show and the network is promising another hot show for this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, returning to sizzling Miami, Fla., on August 28.
Nominations for the VMAs were announced today by MTV, along with all the over-the-top details for the ceremony, hosted this year by P. Diddy.
Green Day leads the nominees pack with eight nods in total, including Video of the Year, Best Group Video, and Viewer?s Choice for ?Boulevard of Broken Dreams;? while ?American Idiot? is in the running for Best Art Direction.
Gwen Stefani and Missy Elliott followed with six nominations and U2 with five.
Vying for the night?s top honour against Green Day will be Coldplay (“Speed of Sound”), Kanye West (“Jesus Walks”), Snoop Dogg featuring Pharrell (“Drop It Like It’s Hot”) and Stefani (“Hollaback Girl”).
But watching to see who wins is only part of the fun.
Most viewers will agree that the VMAs? biggest draw isn?t the presentation of Moon Men, but the always wild performances and red carpet arrivals. This year, celebrities will show up at the American Airlines arena either on luxury yachts pulling in from beautiful Biscayne Bay or souped-up cars that will comprise an auto show on the red carpet.
As the stars arrive, they will take camera crews on tours of their rides, while viewers at home will inevitably experience a bit of car envy.
It will be hard to top Madonna?s headline-grabbing performance at the 2003 MTV VMAs where she locked lips with both Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, but just-announced performers Green Day, Kanye West, and Kelly Clarkson will try to make cover pages of their own. In between, viewers can listen to music composed by Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park and hip-hop producer Lil Jon, marking the first time the awards show will be scored with original music.
“Every year we have to outdo ourselves and this year is no exception,” said MTV President Christina Norman. And to set the 2005 show apart, Norman is promising water ? a lot of water. To go with the ceremony?s water theme, MTV swore to create the most elaborate water effects ever produced in an awards show by working with the same production company that erected the well-known fountain in front of the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas.
More presenters and performers for the show will be announced in the coming weeks.
