HIT: Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively get married
Ryan Reynolds, a.k.a. 2010′s Sexiest Man of the Year, married Gossip Girl’s hottie Blake Lively in South Carolina on Sunday night. It’s Blake’s first marriage and Reynold’s second. Not only did Martha Stewart’s team plan the wedding (and will be featured in her December issue), it took place in the house that Rachel McAdam’s character in the Notebook lived in during that fateful summer. Basically, they had every bride’s dream wedding.
MISS: Amy Poehler and Will Arnett are separating

Poehler and Arnett announced their separation last week. The couple have been together for nine years and have two children together. Arnett also made an appearance on Poehler’s Youtube advice channel. The split has apparently been amicable so hopefully for comedy lovers, this isn’t the end of their onscreen collaborations. For the rest of us, though, this might be the end of true love.
HIT: Emma Stone stars in a Breast Cancer awareness ad with her mom

The all-around amazing actress is in Revlon’s PSA ad, “Your Lips Can Save Lives” with her breast-cancer survivor mom, Krista, who diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008. Stone hopes to be an advocate for getting checked every year as her mom’s tumor wasn’t there the year before she was diagnosed. She and her family all have blackbird feet tattoos (from the Beatles’ “Blackbird” and drawn by the Paul McCartney no less) to commemorate her mother’s journey. Can you be anymore perfect, Emma?
MISS: Rihanna caught kissing Chris Brown at the VMAs

I don’t care if Rihanna forgave him, but I do care about what Brown represents. The fact that people still treat him like a god that makes me angry when I see people hating on girls like Kristen Stewart. Cheat on your boyfriend? You have the whole world hating you. Hit your girlfriend? Win a couple of awards a few years later even though you behave like a douchebag. The world is unfair.
HIT: Anderson Cooper talks about coming out

Cooper made his first public comments on his coming out on Monday since July. He spoke with his guest co-host Kristen Chenowith on his daytime show Anderson Live. He decided to let the public know because to him, visibility was important. “… The tide of history only moves forward when everybody is fully visible,” he continued. You go Anderson Cooper! You’ve achieved hero status.
MISS: Allison Pill accidently tweets topless photo of herself
The Newsroom actress, Allison Pill, accidently tweeted a photo of herself wearing a cute pair of glasses and nothing else on Wednesday morning. I wouldn’t worry too much about it, Pill. We’ll forgive you because a) you ‘fessed up and didn’t blame it on a hack, b) said it was you, c) you’re adorable with or without a shirt, and c) you’re fiancé to be, Jay Baruchel retweeted your apology. If anything, Pill should apologize for the cavity she’s giving me because her and Baruchel are too cute.
The 2010 MTV VMAs took place last night in Los Angeles, and you know what that means – Tons of fabulous celebs walked the white carpet to watch comedienne Chelsea Handler host the MTV event of the year. Didn’t catch the live broadcast? Here are some of the highlights from Sunday’s show.
Taylor Swift delivered a surprise performance of a new song from her upcoming album, Speak Now. Swifty wrote the song after last year’s VMAs, where her acceptance speech for best female video was hijacked by the one and only Kanye West. We’re so glad that Taylor finally forgave Kanye for his actions. We’ve lost months and months of sleep over the sheer tragedy of Kanyegate 2009, so it’s nice to finally be able to rest easy.
If that wasn’t enough to put the “imma let you finish” jokes to bed, Kanye himself closed the show with a killer new track off of his new album toasting all the douchebags, jerkoffs, and assholes of the world. We smell an epic comeback in the near future…
Lady Gaga was the night’s big award winner, finally taking home enough statuettes to finish the moonman ball gown we’re sure she’s been working on. Gaga also announced that her next album would be titled “Born This Way” before singing a few lines from the upcoming title track. We should mention that she did all of this while wearing a minidress made out of what looked to be raw meat. We always new Gaga was a “rare” artist! Heh.
And of course, who could forget the Beebz? Bieber fever was thick in the air as the world’s smoothest 16 year old hit the stage to perform (read: lipsync) a mashup of his hits “Baby” and “Somebody to Love.” He also took home the best new artist VMA, though it took him a few tries to find his way up to the stage.
Though the show lacked the high-calibre drama of its 2009 brethren, we think it was still an entertaining way to keep busy on a Sunday night. What was your favourite part of the 2010 VMAs? Did the show live up to your expectations?
Also check out this performance by the Biebs last night.
Missy Elliott took home two awards including Best Video at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards, but the news that will be making the water cooler conversations concerns the open-mouthed kisses that Madonna planted on Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera.
The awards started with Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera performing Madonna’s “Like A Virgin,” dressed in white wedding dresses, similar to what the Material Girl wore at the awards 20 years ago. Madonna then joined the girls to perform her new song, “Hollywood.” Right before Elliott performed her verses in the song, Madonna gave a “lesbian kiss” to Spears, and then to Aguilera.
Justin Timberlake, Coldplay, and Beyonce Knowles each won three awards, but there was no clear-cut big winner.
Chris Rock hosted the show, and his jokes were controversial at times. “(American Idol judge) Paula Abdul judging singers is like Christopher Reeve judging a dance contest. That ain’t right,” he said, receiving a mixed reaction of laughter and shock.
He poked fun at R. Kelly, who is being charged with sexual relations with an underage girl. Rock suggested they separate the teenaged Olsen Twins and Kelly as far as they can go. And when introducing basketball rookie LeBron James and Ashanti, he joked about Kobe Bryant, who has been charged with rape. “He’s tying not to be the next Kobe and she’s trying not be the next victim.”
