Lady Gaga Costumes Caused her to Go Bankrupt

Posted by Samantha Lui on June 1st, 2011

Looks like Lady Gaga’s crazy costumes are costing her more than just a lot of attention.

Gaga, who has gained millions with her multiple number one singles, went bankrupt after her 2009 Monster Ball Tour.

The tour, comprised of 200 shows over an 18-month period, ended in April 2011 and grossed nearly $200 million.

However, the show’s revenue was clearly not enough to cover the cost of Gaga’s extravagant costumes.

In an interview with the Financial Times, the pop star confessed her financial problems.

“I remember I called everybody and said, ‘Why is everyone saying I have no money?” she said.

“This is ridiculous, I have five No. 1 singles.’” Their reply? “Well, you’re $3 million in debt.”

Well, seeing with the recent release of Gaga’s new Born This Way album has outsold the UK top 10 charts, the flamboyant star probably won’t have a lot financial difficulties in the near future!

…That is of course if she goes even bigger on her costumes for her next tour!!

Lady Gaga Fan Resuscitated After Heart Stops Mid-Concert

Posted by Kimberly Rupnarain on April 24th, 2011

Showstopper Lady Gaga stopped a fan’s heart on Tuesday night.

Literally.

CNN reports that on Tuesday night, two of the artists little monsters, Crystal Thornton and best friend Christina Tugman, headed off excitedly to Gaga’s Monster Ball in Nashville, Tennessee. They had only experienced part of the opening act before Thornton, 33, suffered a seizure that resulted in her heart literally stopping.

“She stopped breathing, her eyes rolled back in her head, and her body started twitching,” Tugman said. “I was asking if she was OK, and she wasn’t responding.”

Us Magazine reports that Tugman ran out to the venue’s lobby to find help, and within a minute, an EMT had reached Thornton, who was “unconscious with no heartbeat.”

Equipped with a portable automated external defibrillator, paramedics on the scene tried resuscitating Thornton for more than five minutes, before her heart began beating again.

After being immediately rushed to the hospital, by Friday, Thornton was in stable condition, though the cause of her frightening seizure was cited as an undetectable genetic condition.

Though I would probably be a little more worried about this ‘undetectable genetic condition’ causing me to have heart-stopping seizures, Thornton was more concerned about missing the much-anticipated Monster Ball.

“I am so mad I missed the concert,” she said.

Lady Gaga has always made it a point to show her fans love, so who knows? Maybe she’ll help this little monster out with tickets to another show.

Lady Gaga and Target Relationship Turns Into a Bad Romance

Posted by Elisheva Baer on March 9th, 2011

Sorry Little Monsters, but it doesn’t look like you will be able to buy this crazy gal’s exclusive Target edition Born This Way anytime soon!

According to E! Online, Lady Gaga has broken her partnership with Target after a long battle over the company’s choice of political donations.

“Lady Gaga and Target came to a mutual decision to end their overall exclusive partnership a few weeks ago,” a rep told E! Online, ending the dream of a Target exclusive edition of Born This Way. But this partnership had been no monster-ball from the very beginning.

A few weeks ago, Gaga shocked gay fans around the world after her announcement that Target would have an exclusive edition of her upcoming album. The company had dominated headlines when it was announced that they had used $150,000 to support MN Forward, a political action committee, which supported Tom Emmer, whose campaign for governor of Minnesota made a donation to a Christian rock organization that promotes death and violence to gays, back in 2010.

When Gaga heard of the news, she and her manager, Troy Carter, met with executives of Target to discuss her concerns.  “That discussion was one of the most intense conversations I’ve ever had in a business meeting,” Gaga told Billboard. “Part of my deal with Target is that they have to start affiliating themselves with LGBT charity groups and begin to reform and make amends for the mistakes they’ve made in the past…our relationship is hinged upon their reform in the company to support the gay community and to redeem the mistakes they’ve made supporting those groups.”

But apparently, Target couldn’t care enough to change! Talk about recipe for a failed relationship.

Target VP of communications Dustee Jenkins responded to Gaga’s statement, telling Billboard how excited they are to be able to work with Gaga, whose fan base, they believe, is “unmatched.” “What I would say,” Jenkins said, “is as we’ve conducted a review of our process, as we’ve looked overall at our support of the LGBT community, certainly her perspective was very helpful in conversations. But we’ve considered a variety of different perspectives along the way, and that’s gotten us to where we are today.”  Not once throughout the interview was Jenkins able to promise that Target will stop their supporting anti-gay political candidates; basically, they appreciate her words of wisdom and will say what they can to keep her happy, but it ends at that.

“It’s so important to me, please, to clear up any misconceptions or concerns,” Gaga told Target, according to Billboard. “Whatever you can do to assure my fans and the gay community that I have their back, please do.”

Too bad they couldn’t, because they just lost themselves what could have been a huge partnership.

Lady Gaga shoots Monster Ball Documentary in NYC

Posted by Megan MacKay on February 22nd, 2011

Gaga’s much anticipated HBO special began shooting today according to Radar Online.

Paparazzi caught the pop sensation in between takes sporting torn fishnets, a huge hair poof, and spiked fingerless gloves.

Gaga tweeted excitedly about the event, exclaiming “What a dream come true! Filming my HBO special of the Monsterball today.”

She also spilled some new info about the video for her new hit, “Born This Way,” which has apparently finished post-production and could be release any time now. “Announcement soon! X” the chanteuse added coyly.

Looks like it’s gonna be a busy year for Gaga! Are you excited about her upcoming announcement?

Interview: A Four Beat-Count With Jason Derulo For MTV’s ‘Turn The Beat Around’

Posted by Jeremy Singer on March 2nd, 2010

Jason Derulo is like one of those multi-purpose Swiss Army knives that presents a new feature every-time you use it.

At any moment he can be a well-rounded singer, songwriter, dancer, and actor, and would technically boast a quadruple threat, but you can’t be too sure with a guy like this.

You never know when he’s going to show you another part of his versatility.

His most recent example of  those surprise features, was his role in MTV’s made-for-TV-movie Turn The Beat Around which premiered on February 26. Derulo shows off his skills by playing a recording star, and also delivers a high-energy dance performance.

But his role on the TV screen is just a small ripple effect of the Miami-born’s overall talent- which people have begun to take note of.

It’s the reason why he’s been the opening act for Lady Gaga during her Monster Ball tour since November 2009. And it’s the reason why his two singles so far -Whatcha Say and In My Head- have both ranked in the top ten on a bunch of music charts across the globe. Whatcha Say has made the most headlines, grabbing the no. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100, and gaining double-platinum status in the U.S.

Oh yea, and this is all been accomplished before the release of his self-titled debut album, which drops on March 2.

Kid Cudi Leaves Lady Gaga’s Monster Ball Early

Posted by Sara Harowitz on December 17th, 2009

Kid CudiKid Cudi has left Lady Gaga’s Monster Ball early, according to rollingstone.com.

He vacates his opening-act slot on Lady Gaga’s current tour just five days after punching a fan during a solo performance in Vancouver. According to an official statement, the Grammy-nominated rapper took “an early leave of absence from Lady Gaga’s Monster Ball tour, in order to balance his schedule surrounding the recording of his next album and acting commitments.” Cudi will also now embark on his own solo tour, which kicked off in Reno, Nevada last night.

In addition to opening for Gaga, Cudi was performing his own shows during the Monster Ball’s off-days and after-hours. Cudi’s punching incident at Vancouver’s Commodore Ballroom on Dec. 12 was his fifth show in three days in the city. Video of the incident shows Cudi catching a wallet that was thrown at him during his performance and then throwing it back into the crowd. The audience member who caught the wallet was not the owner, so he threw it back at Cudi, who then lashed out with punches at the fan.
