We’ve seen people arrive in tanks and ice cream trucks at the MMVAs but that’s SOOO PASSÉ. This year, it was all about the human accessories.
Katy Perry (above) brought a brigade of tiny, fashionable Katys dressed in her various costumes. Check out the “Part of Me” mini-army girl, the braceface from “Last Friday Night” and most disturbingly a young girl dressed in the cupcake bra from “California Girls” (she’s getting some hell for that one).
Bieber brought a swaggy baby to the red carpet, his younger bro Jaxon (d’aw), which made people be all like “woa, that’ll be Jelena in ten years.” But we’re not going to think about that for right now because our hearts would explode.

It’s that time of year again! With guests like Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Carly Rae Jepsen, Cody Simpson and Ed Sheeran this year’s MMVAs are going to be insane. It’s hard to keep up with all the commotion this time of year but we stopped by MuchMusic headquarters to talk to Lauren Toyota about what to expect. She and @Jordans_life talk discuss the potential liability of having LMFAO co-host and Bieber-proofing the event.
Now that Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez are totally making out on an at least semi-regular basis, we figured we’d step in and show them what’s what when it comes to safe sex. To help us, we used a batch of andPOP’s all-new, Justin Bieber Brand Condoms!
We debuted our new product on the red carpet at this year’s MMVAs and showed them to Shay Mitchell, Foster The People, Neverest, Shawn Desman, Dev, and many more. It met with some enthusiasm, some bewildered stares, and some musing about the Biebs’ sex life.
With the MMVAs only three days away, anticipation is rising for Toronto’s biggest party. Today’s feature will take a look at Far East Movement and Dev, who will be performing on the big night.
Bridging the gap between underground party records and mainstream hip-hop and pop, Far East Movement and Dev have gone straight to the #1 spots with songs such as ‘Like a G6.’
The group is comprised of a dynamic foursome that uses hip-hop, pop, electro and dance to create truly unique music. Kev Nish, Prohgress, J-Splif, and DJ Virman have already completed two world tours. The group’s music has also been featured on numerous television shows and films, including ‘Get Him To The Greek’ and ‘Gossip Girl.’
Dev, who frequently performs and contributes to the group, holds her own as well. She’s had many hits on her own, including the infectious ‘Bass Down Low.’ She is currently finishing up a debut studio album, ‘The Night The Sun Came Up,’ and is touring with User and Akon on Usher’s ‘OMG Tour.’
Check out a video we recently did with Dev, and don’t forget: Enter our contest for a chance to win a wristband to the 2011 Muchmusic Video Awards.
With the MMVAs just five days away, Toronto is preparing for one of Canada’s biggest music block parties. As fans eagerly anticipate their favourite performers, today we’re going to take a look at Fefe Dobson.
Nominated four times for the 2011 MMVAs, 26-year-old Fefe Dobson is no stranger to the music industry. She began her career in 2003 with the pop-rock smash ‘Bye Bye Boyfriend,’ then following up with hits such as ‘Take Me Away,’ ‘Everything’ and ‘Don’t Go (Girls and Boys).’
Dobson has also dabbled in acting and modelling, appearing as Tina Turner in the NBC series ‘American Dreams’ and modelling for a Tommy Hilfiger commercial. She also opened for Justin Timberlake on his European tour.
Now, her current single ‘Can’t Breathe,’ from her latest release ‘Joy,’ is currently in the top 10 on MuchMusic’s ‘Countdown.’

Selena Gomez has apparently been suffering from malnourishment and exhaustion, reports CTV.
The singer and actress, who lately has been ill and receiving tremendous support from fans, was hospitalized on Friday when she fell ill with nausea and a severe headaches.
“I was very malnourished. I was dehydrated and very low on iron and exhausted. So, I just gotta take care of myself,” Gomez says.
The 18-year-old has missed promotions of her new film ‘Monte Carlo’ in Santa Monica, California, and although disappointed, she is ready to head back to work.
“I’m doing great, much better. I was very disappointed I couldn’t be here, but I’m here now,” she tells Access Hollywood.
Gomez has been dating 17-year-old pop star Justin Bieber since the beginning of this year, and Bieber recently tweeted his support for the star, saying ”getwellselena.”
Glad she’s back on track and ready to go. She has to host the MMVAs in five days, so she needs to be in tip top shape!
As the MuchMusic Video Awards are quickly approaching (six days!), plenty of fans are eagerly awaiting their favourite artists to rock downtown Toronto in one of Canada’s biggest block parties of the year.
From Simple Plan to Fefe Dobson and Avril Lavigne, plenty of Canadian artists will be on scene to deliver some serious music. And we’re here to explore some of this year’s top artists and performers.
Let’s start with Down With Webster. One of the most anticipated bands of the night, the group is nominated four times for the 2011 MMVAS. The band formed in 1998 at their junior high in Toronto’s Beach community, and after more than a decade of writing, producing, playing shows and perfecting their craft, the band is now set as one of the hottest Hip-Hop Rock groups in Canada.
When the band released their first Gold record ‘Time To Win, vol. 1,’ they spawned three platinum singles, including the ever-so-catchy ‘Rich Girl$,’ three number one videos, and millions of hits on YouTube. Timbaland has even called them “the illest group I’ve ever seen live.” How’s that for success?
The band has since toured across North America, going on to share the stage with some serious heavy hitters like 3Oh!3 and the Black Eyed Peas. They even hosted MuchMusic’s ‘Spring Break 2010′ episode in Cancun, Mexico, and delivered an exciting performance last year at the 2010 MMVAs with a live marching band.
This year, Down With Webster returns to sweep some awards again, this time with their full length debut ‘Time To Win, vol. II’ scheduled to arrive this fall. The first single, ‘She’s Dope,’ is already a hit. You’ll have to wait to see what the band delivers on MMVA night.
Check out an interview we did with the group below, where we ask them what makes good pop music!

Summer is almost here, and we all know what that means: Toronto’s biggest (well, most commercial) music party is coming back.
The MuchMusic Video Awards (MMVA’s), set to take place in June, will see Queen and John Streets transformed with celebrities, screaming fans, live performances, and, of course, awards.
This time around, Toronto’s own rap prince Drake is in the nomination lead with a total of seven, reports Yahoo! News. The awards show comes right after Drake releases his highly anticipated debut album, Thank Me Later.
Vancouver band Hedley follows behind with six nominations, and GTA pop sensation Justin Bieber comes in with four nominations. Other notable nominees include Katy Perry, Adam Lambert, and Miley Cyrus, who will also be hosting the awards show along with MuchMusic VJs.
Cyrus, Bieber and Perry are also scheduled to perform at the show.
Lady Gaga is set to bring her outrageous fashions and chart-topping tunes to Toronto next month as a performer at the MuchMusic Video Awards.
The show, to be co-hosted by the Jonas Brothers, will air live on June 21 starting at 9 p.m., preceded by a red carpet special at 8 p.m.
Currently on tour in Australia, Lady Gaga told MuchNews that she was looking forward to her appearance at the MMVAs.
The Jonas Brothers are set to take fan-demonium to a whole new level at this summer’s MuchMusic Video Awards.
Organizers announced Thursday that the pop trio will co-host and perform at the June 21 event in Toronto, which goes live to air at 9 p.m. ET.
“We’re so excited to get back up to Canada, and co-hosting the MMVAs is a real honour for us,” eldest brother Kevin Jonas said in a statement.

When you need free stuff, nobody will give it to you.
When you’re a millionaire megastar, you can leave your wallet behind, walk around a gift lounge, and leave with enough gifts for your friends to last a decade.
It’s not fair. But that’s how it works.
The 2008 MuchMusic Video Awards presenters and performers were treated to the official Gift Lounge where they were handed shoes, watches and much more.
andPOP caught up with some stars in the gift lounge. We left with footage. No clothes, no video game systems, just footage. Here. Watch.
The most-buzzed-about music, the most-drool worthy celebs, and the wildest fans all came together at the 19th Annual MuchMusic Video Awards last night in Toronto. MuchMusic served up an endless evening of glitz, glamour, thunder and lightening, and thrilling musical performances where fans raised the decibel level to new ear-deafening heights. The newly reunited New Kids On The Block proved they can still make the girls swoon, while Chace Crawford made the crowd melt, and the unlikely combination of Flo Rida and Simple Plan opened the show with a bang. The kings of the evening, Hedley took home four awards and international showstopper Rihanna left with two.
andPOP was on hand at the 2008 MMVAs to speak to the celebs. Take a look!

Getting nods for favourite Canadian group are Billy Talent, Finger Eleven, Hedley, IllScarlett and Simple Plan, who won the award four years in a row beginning in 2002. Billy Talent took the prize last year.
The nominees for favourite international video are Fall Out Boy, Flo Rida featuring T-Pain, Kanye West, Rihanna and Timbaland Presents OneRepublic. The category combines the now defunct awards for favourite international group and favourite international artist, which were won last year by My Chemical Romance and Hilary Duff, respectively.

The rest of the categories and nominees will be announced next week.
The MuchMusic Video Awards, now in its 19th year, will air live from downtown Toronto on June 15 beginning at 9 p.m. ET.

Finger Eleven performed from the roof. The Used snuck in three f-bombs during a 10-second interview. The inebriated members of Sum 41 stumbled out of their car onto the red carpet.
But a few tears from Canada’s pop princess were enough to create the water-cooler moment at last night’s MuchMusic Video Awards.
Avril Lavigne became emotional while accepting the award for Favourite Canadian.
“All the fans just voted for me and that really means a lot, so thank you,” said Lavigne, who earlier had won best International Video.
Lavigne was one of nine artists to perform last night at the Chum building in Toronto for the 18th annual MMVAs.
Fellow performers Billy Talent – tied with Nickelback with a leading five nominations – walked away as the big winners, taking three awards. My Chemical Romance won two.

andPOP asked the MuchMusic VJs to choose some of their favourite moments from past MMVAs.
Here’s what they said.

LEAH MILLER
Fefe Dobson
“Fefe Dobson said the f word while presenting an award…I was so shocked & didn’t know what to do? I just giggled & moved on…what can you do? It’s live tv!”

DEVON SOLTENDIECK
Arcade Fire Performance from 2005.
“The MMVAs has a way of getting great performers right when they’re on the cusp of something greater than themselves. It happened with Kanye in 04, it happened with Britney Spears who performed a few years back and it certainly happened with the Arcade Fire.”

Hosting the red carpet and main show last year in 2006
“It’s one of my favorite shows to host – you get to meet everyone as they arrive and since it’s completely live, you have to be on your toes!”

My first throw with Sarah in 2004 at our first-ever MMVAs
“I was so nervous I ripped her dress! We opened the show so there was a lot of pressure. Everything went according to plan but I did have to pay for the dress to be altered again!”
HANNAH SIMONE
Rihanna’s performance last year
“I thought Rihanna knocked it out of the park last year. She looked amazing and her performance was the perfect kick start to summer.”
Presenting Simple Plan with their award!
“It was the first award I have ever presented at the MMVA’s so I was so nervous. Thankfully I had Massari and Kardi on stage with me and everything went smoothly.”
Fall Out Boy last year
“Fall Out Boy closed the show with an incredible performance. Got everyone in the mood to head to the after parties! ”

MATT BABEL
“The initial roar of the crowd off the top of the show is incredible. There’s nothing like it.”
“Seeing Kanye West perform ‘Jesus Walks’ with the choir was amazing.”

“Rick Campaneli ran on stage in his underwear with his shirt from his last MMVAs appearance!”

TIM DEEGAN
Elisha Cuthbert
“I used to watch her on TV when I was a kid so it was so exciting to see her taking such a star turn.”

Hedley
“You never know what they’re going to do and they didn’t disappoint — great performance!”
Nelly Furtado and Timbaland
“Nelly is always hot but it was Timbaland who was the real surprise — who knew they would be so great together?”

The 2007 MuchMusic Video Awards – airing this Sunday starting at 7:30 p.m. – will be the subject of talk at the water cooler on Monday morning (actually, it will be the subject of talk on blogs and message boards; water bottles have made water coolers so last decade).
Here now are 10 things andPOP wants to see at the MMVAs:
10. Someone explaining who Belly is. Hey, give the guy credit, he’s earned four MMVAs nominations. No disrespect to the rapper, but I have yet to speak with someone who knows who he is. The MMVAs could be his coming out party.
9. Ray Emery of the Ottawa Senators proving to Sean Avery of the New York Rangers (both are presenters) that goalies can fight too.
8. Bradford How making a cameo appearance.
7. Avril Lavigne getting into a catfight with Hilary Duff.
6. Avril Lavigne getting into a catfight with Perez Hilton.
5. Perez Hilton and Tara Reid walking down the red carpet holding hands.
4. A Tara Reid red carpet moment.
3. Raptors star Chris Bosh dunk Fergie. Think of that visual.
2. Canada’s Next Top Model host Jay Manuel say this on the red carpet: “where are all the hip-hop artists?”
1. Joss Stone.
Several A-listers will be taking the stage on June 17 at the 2007 MuchMusic Video Awards.
As andPOP revealed in its blog last night, Avril Lavigne, Hilary Duff and Maroon 5 will be hitting Toronto to perform at the big show.
Also on the bill are Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas, Billy Talent, Alexisonfire, Belly, The Used and Finger Eleven.
For the first time in the 18-year history of the MMVAs, one of the acts will perform on the roof.
Billy Talent and Nickelback lead all artists with five nominations each.
