Turns out Mira Sorvino isn’t AWOL after all. Although Sorvino hasn’t appeared in a significant film since 1999’s Summer of Sam, the actress was named honorary deputy sheriff in Lackawanna County, in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

She’s actually a second-generation honorary sheriff. Her father, Paul Sorvino, was honored about 25 years ago.

Lackawanna County Sheriff John Szymanski is a longtime family friend.

Sorvino took the oath on Tuesday, accompanied by husband Chris Backus, 1-year-old daughter Mattea Angel, and Paul.

And before you start criticizing the county for awarding celebrities with honorary titles, and not you, check out this tidbit that the highly credible E Network dug up: any person who passes a criminal background check and fills out a form can be an honorary sheriff too.

Martin Sheen is among a host of other celebrities who have been given the same title in Lackawanna County.
