Michael J. Fox takes us Back to the Future! During his “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Cure Parkinson’s” gala, the actor whipped out his guitar, got on stage, and rocked out to Chuck Berry’s “Johnny B. Goode” a-la Marty McFly – and may we say, he sounded pretty good!
Here’s Michael J. Fox playing “Johnny B. Goode” now…
Here he is in his playing the song in the classic 1985 Back to the Future.
The dude’s still got it!
But Michael’s performance got us thinking – which classic movie performances would you love to see re-enacted live? So we came up with a few that we know we would just die to witness!
First up – Matthew Broderick singing “Twist and Shout,” as he did in Ferris Beuller’s Day Off. Need we say more? I still sing along every time.
Even though he’s lip synching and the only music he is playing is air guitar, this classic scene of Tom Cruise rocking out to Bob Seger’s “Old Time Rock ‘N Roll” in Risky Business will never get old.
One performance we would have loved to see, though, is a re-enactment of Heath Ledger’s display of affection in 10 Things I Hate About You, singing Frankie Valley and the Four Seasons’ “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” in an attempt to win over Kat Stratford’s heart so he can make some cash. Despite the sub-par vocals, it makes my heart melt every time.
The Canada for Haiti telethon and its French counterpart, Ensemble Pour Haiti, both held Friday, raised $16 million for earthquake relief efforts in the country, reports CBC.
Canada for Haiti was held in Toronto and created by CBC, CTV and Global. The funds will go to a group of Canadian charities working in Haiti.
Governor General Michaelle Jean, who was born in Haiti, made an appearance in Montreal for Ensemble Pour Haiti.
“It’s very important to take this time to put our hearts together and put our heads together and see what we can do to support Haiti in this ordeal,” she said. “We are in an era where civil society is big and international and what Haiti has experienced has touched everyone on this planet. Breaking down solitudes is my motto and that is what I hope to do here.”
Entertainment Weekly reports that Michael J. Fox is close to signing on for several episodes of “Rescue Me.”
Fox and the show’s star, Dennis Leary, are old friends, so negotiations are expected to run smoothly.
Fox would play a love interest for Leary’s character’s ex.
This would be Fox’s first major television role since appearing on “Boston Public” in 2006.
Canadian-born Michael J. Fox received an honourary degree from the University of B.C this week.
The 46-year-old actor said it was an “incredible honour” to receive the honourary doctor of laws degree award.
“When I received the invitation, I thought, ‘What were you thinking?’ I have no experience of graduating from university or even graduating from high school,” said Fox jokingly, before adding: “This means a great deal to me, I’m deeply moved.”
Ten others, including Olympian Clara Hughes and architect Bing Thom, were also honoured during the six days of ceremonies between May 21 and May 28.
“It’s humbling to find myself among such great people,” said Fox.
Fox has appeared in TV shows and movies, including “Family Ties,” “Spin City,” “Back to the Future” and “Bright Lights, Big City.” In 1999, Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and has founded the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, which has raised more than $120 million toward Parkinson’s research.
Hollywood star MICHAEL J. FOX is taking his embryonic stem-cell research campaign straight to the top – he’ll be attending US President GEORGE W. BUSH’s State of the Union address next week.
The actor, a staunch supporter of the controversial research since being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease 15 years ago, will be a guest of Rhode Island Republican JIM LANGEVIN, who shares his views. Langevin has been confined to a wheelchair since a shooting accident in his teens.
In a statement, the BACK TO THE FUTURE star said, “Congressman Langevin is a tireless champion for the advancement of medical research, and I am honoured to join him next week at the State of the Union.”
In 2005 Langevin invited CHRISTOPHER REEVE’s widow DANA to the event. She died of lung cancer last year but the politician is confident her concerns will be well-represented by Fox next week.
He says, “I am sure Michael will help to further Chris and Dana’s legacy and underscore for the President just how serious I am about pursuing the promise of stem cell research.”

Comingsoon.net reports that Michael J. Fox will guest-star on Boston Legal this season.
Fox will play Daniel Post, a charismatic and charming CEO, in a three-episode arc on the TV show that’s famous for dramatizing the lives of a group of brilliant but messed-up lawyers. Post has Stage 4 lung cancer and is being represented by Crane, Poole and Schmidt in a lawsuit involving an anti-cancer drug. He becomes involved with Denise Bauer (Julie Bowen), one of the firm’s attorneys.
“We couldn’t be more excited. [Fox's] comedic and dramatic strengths make him a natural for this series,” said creator and executive producer David E. Kelley.
Boston Legal also stars Emmy Award-winning actor James Spader, Candice Bergen and William Shatner.
