The hosiery women have been wearing for years are now crossing over to the opposite sex. Brosiery, a rising trend in the U.K. is helping men make a fashion statement by adding in another layer.
Started Emilio Cavallini, the Italian fashion house known for making beautiful undergarments for women, has created ‘mantyhose’ or unisex tights in various styles to cater to male customers. As the Daily Mail reports, men make up two to three per cent of the company’s consumers.
According to Time Newsfeed, the company’s vice-president Francisco Cavallini said the idea for the line started when he noticed men buying medium to large-sized tights on their online store.
“I did a search on the Internet and discovered there is a cult following for mantyhose,” he said.
Personally, I think this trend is kind of strange but it’s not like I haven’t seen men in tights before. Male ballet dancers do it all the time, and so do many athletes. Not to mention, tights do keep you warm. It would be interesting to see how this trend plays out for men wanting to make a sartorial statement. But hey, if it floats your boat, by all means rock it.
As Robin Hood’s sidekick Little John said,”Let’s face it: you’ve got to be a man to wear tights.”
What do you think? Would you like to see men wearing tights for fashion?
