Cheesy lingo and terrible plot lines?! I smell a good-bad teen movie. And I’m in. Here are our 10 fave teen movies:
Pretty in Pink
One of Jon Cryer and Molly Ringwald’s most famous roles was playing “Duckie” and Andie in John Hughe’s Pretty in Pink. When it came out in 1986, Pretty in Pink became an instant classic and still is today. Andie is surviving high school but when Blane, a rich, sensitive playboy is interested in her, she finds herself in a triangle, seeing as her best friend Duckie has had a crush on her for years. The movie is all about whether or not a relationship between a rich guy and a poor girl can work in high school where status is everything.
The Breakfast Club
Another John Hughes film, The Breakfast Club follows a day in the life of five teenagers stuck in detention, all starting off as part of a clique or typical high school stereotype. You have the jock, the smart kid, the school beauty, the rebel and the freak. What’s great about this movie is that by the end of it they all realize their similarities rather than focusing on their differences. This 1985 classic can resonate with any generation.
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
Another teen classic is Ferris Bueller’s Day Off . Released in 1986, everyone fell in-love with Matthew Broderick when he played a teenager who skips school for the day and instead sets out on an adventure through Chicago with his girlfriend, Sloan and overly-cautious best friend, Cameron. What I love about this movie, amongst all the scheming and lying, it actually has a few great lessons.

This morning Broadway.com and Huffington Post confirmed Tina Fey has plans to send Mean Girls to the Great White Way. Fey told E! News: “I’m trying to develop it, actually, with my husband, who does all the music for 30 Rock. And I think Paramount’s onboard.” She’s also thinking of Mariah Carey for Amy Poehler’s role.
Um, WHAT? Some might find this sad, but I find this oddly exciting. I’m already thinking of the great power houses and melodramatic ballads that need to be included. Naturally, I think Lea Michele needs to be involved. No one does powerhouse, dramatic ballads like her!
People are generally really excited:

Recover from last night’s party
Whether you were celebrating with friends, family, or woke up with the person you met last night, it’s time to get back to reality. School starts back next week and you probably have a work shift to get to. 2012 was fun while it lasted, but make sure 2013 is even more memorable! [getinmystockingleo]
Be kinder to others
Okay admit it, Mean Girls is hands down one of your favourite movies, am I right? Even though the whole flick is hilarious, you could learn a few lessons. If there’s a new student transferring from Africa (or anywhere else) be the bigger person and let them sit with you! In the end, nobody likes a “Regina George.” [photographyxox]
Cut down on the calories
I get it. That chocolate bar is tempting. Those chips are addicting. Those cookies smell so fresh. But guess what, 6-months down the line will be summer and you’re gunna be kicking yourself wishing you DIDN’T eat what you did months ago. Be prepared to show off that beach bod. [debramorgan]

10. Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone
If Harry Potter doesn’t make you happy, then I have no words for you. Seeing the heartwarming face of Hagrid, or witnessing the blossoming friendship of the Trio is enough to cure a hangover. The nostalgia of your Potter childhood is enough to give you butterflies — and not the kind that will only worsen the feelings in your stomach. Just take note to not follow up this movie with The Chamber of Secrets. You know, that scene when Ron throws up the slugs…
9. Drop Dead Gorgeous
You might not know of this film, but you will at some point in your lifetime. Drop Dead Gorgeous is both horrifying and hilarious at the same time. I suggest this as a hangover cure because it’s kind of like the gem on pageant mockery. Seeing the way these girls battle it out for the top title of pageant glory will take your mind off of your own sad state. If you don’t get around to watching the film, just sit back and be mesmerized by this gif from the movie:
8. Toy Story
Toy Story is a film that lives in the hearts of everyone who is legally old enough to drink. Watching this movie whilst hungover will make you forget all of your worries and remember that you have a friend in Woody and Buzz. It might also inspire you to dig up some old childhood toys and cuddle your nausea away. That, or you can slowly fall asleep during the movie and slumber away to a happy place.
7. Lost in Translation
Lost In Translation earned director Sofia Coppola a lot of attention for her notorious dreamy visuals and uncanny writing. Some of the scenes of Bill Murray are hilarious, but with an undertone of sadness. Amongst basically every Sofia Coppola film, Lost In Translation is good for a hangover because it has beautiful, sleepy music with lovely visuals that will sooth your mind and ease you into a deep sleep.
6. Pretty in Pink
Pretty in Pink is the kind of movie where you really, truly want to cheer for the main character to find happiness. Following Andy (and her adorable sidekick, Duckie) will give you some purpose and motivation during an otherwise hopeless time. It’ll also motivate you to get off the couch and completely DIY your entire wardrobe to look like Andy’s and/or Duckie’s.
5. Mean Girls
The question is, when ISN’T it ever a good time to watch Mean Girls? Of course, you know every line, every expression, and every comedic pause that occurs in this cinematic gem. So instead of being a bump on a bump lying on your couch, you’ll at least be reciting the classic lines in Mean Girls. You’ll also have Janice Ian to discourage you from any future hangovers.
4. The Social Network
The Social Network is the type of film that will stimulate your brain. Its quick wit and fast-paced lines will hold your concentration (and whatever else in your stomach) for a few hours. It also might discourage you from logging onto Facebook and seeing evidence of last night’s regret.
3. Napoleon Dynamite
Napoleon Dynamite is so mind-numbingly pointless, it will require very little of your hungover attention. On the other hand, it’s also side-splittingly hilarious, so it could possibly single-handedly cure your hangover. Napoleon Dynamite gets up to so many shenanigans just trying to fight off the school bullies. Seeing his many (often weird and random) accomplishments will make you want to say “forget this hangover” and then conquer the world. Heck yes!
2. The Wizard of Oz
This might seem like a completely random way to cure a hangover, but hear me out. The Wizard of Oz is like a treasure trove of happiness because of its magical colours and famous songs. The film will for sure stimulate your fried brain after a long night of partying. The best part is that the film’s heroine, Dorothy, reminds us all that there’s no place like home. This statement will comfort you after a wild New Years Eve.
1. Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
Lord of the Rings makes the number one spot on this list for endless reasons. Primarily, the length of the film is enough to lull you into a nice sedation. The film is so addicting that you will be practically forced to watch the rest of the LOTR movies, which will keep you occupied for your entire hangover. By the end of it all, you can give your self a nice round of Hobbit-esque applause.
Nothing gets you in the holiday spirit like holiday gifs. Especially if they involves Harry Styles, Charlie Brown, Justin Bieber or all of the above.

Holiday movie marathon
If you’re in college or university, you’re probably finishing up your exams and final assignments. There’s nothing better than not worrying about school work anymore and being able to just flop on the couch to relax. Elf is definitely one of my favourite Christmas movies! Do you guys have an other suggestions? [monstrothewhale]
Time to decorate the tree
Nice to know my family decorated the tree without me this year. Not bitter at all… Anyway, are you the type of person to decorate a fake tree straight out of the box or be extra festive and find the perfect Douglas Fir? [snooowflake]
My Christmas wish came true
*SIGH* If only you could wish for a super cute, soul singing celeb for Christmas. I guess the next best thing is picking up one of their albums, or seeing your faves hanging out together! Siva from The Wanted and Ed Sheeran have played a few Jingle Ball shows together. It’s always nice to see fellow artists supporting each other. [thewantedblog]
Make your holidays stress-free
As we all know, Mean Girls is a classic teen movie, and I’m sure you can learn a few things from it. If you’re involved in any sort of talent show, make sure to have patience. No one wants to fight during the happiest time of the year, right? [pactressia]
Leftover Christmas lights
Bring the festivities into your bedroom or dorm room with Christmas lights! They can double as a nightlight or just look super cool. [human1ty]

Not so scary decorations
Not all decorations have to be spooky spider webs or hanging skeletons. Spark things up a bit with these colourful (and glittery) pumpkin lights. You can totally hang them around your dorm and watch some horror films with your roommates. [lesliehay]
Epic music videos
Michael Jackson has one of the best Halloween-inspired music videos EVER in “Thriller.” The 13-minute video is full of zombies, werewolves, and a full moon. Need I say more? At least you’ll enjoy some great music and dance moves while watching! Oh and who could forget “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)” where they end up at a haunted house after their bus breaks down. Classics. [threatened]
Hitting up the pubs tomorrow night?
Even though the majority of Halloween parties took place this weekend, I’m sure you’ll still want to go out tomorrow night after a long day of school. Just BEWARE if you have any 8 a.m. classes the next morning, you might want to set your alarm! [daay-dreaam]
Mean Girls reference is a must
Once you hit your teen years, there’s a zero percent chance that you want your parents to go Halloween shopping with you. Technically you can throw on a pair of ears (bunny, mouse, cat, devil, etc.), a tight dress and ta-da, you’re now an animal. Best of all, it’s socially acceptable. [whatshouldbetchescallme]

We’re dying over this new footage of the Mean Girls cast reciting Kevin G’s mathlete rap. The behind the scene footage features Amy Poehler rapping while Tina Fey attempts to beat box in the background of what looks to be someone’s living room.
Lindsay Lohan is mainly there to add street cred to their laughably gangster, looking fresh-faced with no makeup on. Pre-probation Lindsay, how could you not love it?
Watch the original rap here:
“Silver Springs” — Lykke Li
Lykke Li’s recent cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Silver Springs” puts a new spin on the emotional classic. While Lykke Li may not have as strong a personal connection to the song as Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks, she manages to give the song new life with her expressive vocals pounding with reverb and a slow buildup to that heart wrenching chorus. Move over Adele, I think I just found my new breakup song. You can catch Li’s version of “Silver Springs” on the upcoming Fleetwood Mac cover album Just Tell Me That You Want Me: A Tribute To Fleetwood Mac, released August 14.
“Mean Girls” — Rachel Crow
Finally, an up and coming pop star who doesn’t rely on sex and partying to sell her first single. Fourteen-year-old ex X-Factor contestant Rachel Crow is a breathe of fresh air in the bullying themed music video for “Mean Girls,” off her debut self-titled EP. The video features candid shots of young girls who have been victims of bullying, and Crow gives a heartfelt performance urging her audience to stay strong and never give up. The girl is extremely talented and seems to have a good head on her shoulders. Hopefully future pop stars will learn something from Crow.

What an ego blow this must be. Although Lindsay Lohan was the star of “Mean Girls” she has been curiously left off the cover for the upcoming Nintendo DS game, reports popeater.com. Instead the cover just features Rachel McAdams, Lacey Chabert and Amanda Seyfried, who played the trio of super-popular girls known as “the plastics.”
According to a description of the game found onGameStop.com, ‘Mean Girls’ will “follow the misadventures of Cady from Jingle Bell Rock to the School Prom.”
Now all this begs the question, “Why was she left off the cover?” Do marketers see her image as so tarnished that she could potentially hinder sales of the game? Undoubtedly the recent stories in the tabloids about her out of control personal life have not helped the young Hollywood star. Additionally she has released only seven films to mass audiences since ‘Mean Girls,’ and nothing since the 2008 bomb ‘Chapter 27,’ which grossed a mere $56,215 according to Box Office Mojo.
So this recent event is only one more knock against Lindsay. At least she has nowhere else to go but up.
