“Dark Knight” actress Maggie Gyllenhaal is set to star opposite Emma Thompson in the “Nanny McPhee” sequel, according to Production Weekly.
The movie, tentatively titled “Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang,” will see Thompson reprise her role as the magical nanny, although there is no word yet as to what role Gyllenhaal will play.
According to Thompson, the sequel will be markedly different from the 2005 original, which took in $122 million at the worldwide box office. “It’s not a sequel, actually, it’s a new story,” she told MTV in November. “(The second film) is set one hundred years later; the only thing that is the same is Nanny McPhee.”

The music-based drama “Crazy Heart” has lined up an all-star cast in the form of Jeff Bridges, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Robert Duvall.
The feature from CMT Films and Informant Media is based on the 1989 Thomas Cobb novel of the same name, which follows an alcoholic, down-on-his-luck country music singer (Bridges) who attempts to get his life and career back on track with the help of a reporter (Gyllenhaal).
Scott Cooper wrote the screenplay and will also direct, while Grammy-winning singer-songwriter T-Bone Burnett will produce original music for the film and soundtrack.
Variety reports that Bridges, who released an album in 2000 called “Be Here Soon,” will perform in the film.
Shooting is set to begin in and around Santa Fe, N.M., in August, and the film is scheduled to hit theatres in mid-2009.
Both Bridges and Gyllenhaal can be seen in superhero blockbusters this summer, with the former appearing in “Iron Man” and the latter sharing the screen with Christian Bale in “The Dark Knight.”
Maggie Gyllenhaal and fiancé Peter Sarsgaard have had a baby girl.
People magazine was the first to report the news about the birth, which occurred on Tuesday. The couple have named the baby Ramona.
“Mom, dad and baby are healthy and happy,” Amanda Silverman, Gyllenhall’s publicist told the Associated Press.
The couple announced their engagement and future child in April. It will be the first wedding for both.
