Multi-Platinum Alternative rock band Linkin Park have just released their much-anticipated track for Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen. The single “New Divide” will serve as the official theme song for the movie which is slated for silver screen release on June 24th. Linkin Park Vocalist Designs Shoes For Education

Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda has teamed up with DC Shoes to create a signature sneaker that will help send budding artists to school.

Dubbed the Xander, it is actually the third shoe that Shinoda has designed for DC Shoes’ Remix series and his fourth overall for the footwear company.

Proceeds from the shoe will go toward the Michael K. Shinoda Endowed Scholarship, which benefits graphic design or illustration students entering the Art Center College of Design in California. Shinoda himself graduated from the school in 1998 with a bachelor’s degree in illustration.

Shinoda described the shoe, which features traditional Japanese designs, as a summer version of the Xander Remix style he created last year, with lighter colours and patterns.

He also said he road-tested the shoes on the band’s last world tour to make sure they would hold up under everyday wear.

Linkin Park, whose most recent studio album was 2007′s “Minutes to Midnight,” is gearing up for another international tour this summer. The band also revealed recently that they will be contributing to the “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” score, and their song “New Divide,” which premieres on radio May 18, will appear on the movie’s official soundtrack. The movie itself hits theatres June 24.

Linkin Park’s New Material

Linkin Park’s members are already planning a return to a studio. Though their summer tour, Projekt Revolution, just ended a few months ago, they’ve been writing new material for months, according to frontman Chester Bennington.

And the new material, following up 2007’s Minutes to Midnight, will have a slight twist – it will be the band’s first attempt at a concept album. As Bennington said to MTV News, “For me, you say the words ‘concept record,’ and the first thing I think of is theater or the opera or something. There’s a story, and everything has to relate to that story. It sounds a little daunting to me, so, I think my confidence level will drop, but when it was presented to us by this friend of ours, we liked the idea….It couldn’t have come strictly from us – an outside source brought it to us in a way that was exciting.”

He estimates that it will take about six weeks for the band to record the new album, which, in terms of the sound, he says, “it sounds like peanut butter and jelly. It’s sounding delicious.” Linkin Park plan to hit the studio before December, right around the time their live CD/DVD Road to Revolution: Live at Milton Keynes hits stores on Nov. 25.

Linkin Park fans were in for a pleasant surprise at their sold-out Madison Square Garden show Friday night, as rapper Jay-Z joined the band for their encore.

LP briefly teased the audience with a declaration of “Goodnight, New York,” before Jay-Z appeared onstage to perform two songs from the pair’s 2004 mash-up EP “Collision Course.”

They performed “Numb/Encore” before diving into “Jigga What/Faint.”

The two had previously teamed up for a performance of “Numb/Encore” at the 2005 Grammys, with ex-Beatles Paul McCartney also joining them for a rendition of “Yesterday.”

Jay-Z fans hoping to catch a full set from the rapper can see him when he goes on tour with Mary J. Blige beginning in late March.

Linkin Park Art For Sale On Tour

The members of rock group LINKIN PARK are showing off their artistic skills in a new recycled picture book.

Frontman Chester Bennington and bandmates Mike Shinoda and Joseph Hahn have each contributed artwork to limited-edition, 50-page book Revolution Unseen: The Hidden Art of Projekt Revolution, which is being made available to fans on the group’s Projekt Revolution tour.

My Chemical Romance stars Gerard Way and Ray Toro have also contributed to the book.

Bennington reveals he and his bandmates only agreed to make the book available after working out the costs to the environment.

He says, “All of our records, any paper product is all printed on this new material that is actually, it’s like super-recycled. Even our inks are environmentally friendly, like, everything we do, we’re trying to focus on polluting as little as possible.”

Proceeds from the book will go to Music For Relief, to benefit disaster relief. (KL/RS/GES)

Linkin Park Are Still Making That Album

Linkin Park are still plugging away at their “grown up” album with producer Rick Rubin.

“The thing about Rick that I love is he’s unpredictable. He’ll listen to a song and throw out an idea that seems completely out of nowhere, but it makes a lot of sense and it makes the song better,” rapper Mike Shinoda told Billboard.com. “The Moog (synthesizer) has been sitting in the studio since day one.”

Rumour has it that Linkin Park is actually taking a lot of its influence from old school rock bands like Pink Floyd, which is where some of the post-pubescent vibes come from.

“There is an element to the album that will be familiar to people simply because it’s the same guys making the music,” Shinoda said. “But at the same time, these guys have grown up quite a bit, and we definitely have a different mind state about making songs.

“Most importantly, we want to make stuff that’s hopefully cutting edge and different.”

Of the 100 songs Linkin Park had initially written for the still untitled CD, 18 have survived.

The band expects to release their third studio album in early 2007.

Fort Minor Plans 2006 North American Tour

Fort Minor, the hip-hop/rock side project featuring Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park, will tour North America in the new year.

The band, which also features Styles of Beyond, will tour with Little Brother and Demigodz. Ghostface will appear in New York only.

This will be Fort Minor’s first tour. They will perform songs from “The Rising Tied,” as well as a few Linkin Park songs “reanimated by Fort Minor,” according to a press release.

Tickets go on sale this weekend through Ticketmaster.

Linkin Park Album Due Next Year

Linkin Park has resolved its contract dispute with Warner Bros. and fans can look forward to a new album next year, Reuters reports.

The band issued a statement in May saying that plans for a spring 2006 album has been halted, and also expressed concerns about cost cutting.

“We’re resolving our differences and we’re looking forward to putting out a record next year,” guitarist Brad Delson told Billboard.com. “We’re all focused on the creative process right now.”

Singer Mike Shinoda said the band has “been working on new stuff for at least a month” and that “the band is always evolving. We like the momentum created by coming up with new songs.”

Linkin Park’s last album, 2003′s Meteora, has sold 5.14 million copies in the United States.

Big Names Join Forces for Hurricane-Relief Telethons

Much like the aftermath of Sept. 11 just four years ago, celebrities, musicians, and actors are banning together to raise money for victims of another U.S. disaster. This time, the cause is Katrina, the Category 5 hurricane that has left the Mississippi gulf and the city of New Orleans in ruins.

?A Concert for Hurricane Relief,? to be broadcast on NBC, MSNBC, and CNBC this Friday at 8 p.m. EST, will include performances by Wynton Marsalis, Harry Connick Jr., and Tim McGraw. Celebrities such as Leonardo DiCaprio are also scheduled to participate in the hour-long special, which will be hosted by Matt Lauer in New York. Viewers will be encouraged to donate to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.

But the special which will likely draw the biggest crowd is a three-city MTV extravaganza that will feature performances by Usher, Green Day, Ludacris, and Alicia Keys. It will air live on Sept. 10 on MTV, VH1, and CMT from New York, Los Angeles, and Nashville.

“In the face of a tragedy of this scope, we simply have to do everything in our power to offer support, comfort and hope to all the people directly impacted by the hurricane,” said Judy McGrath, chair and CEO of MTV Networks, who announced the concerts yesterday. “Our goal is to join forces on every medium to get involved, to volunteer, to contribute in any way we can.”

Other artists currently on board for the event are Gretchen Wilson, John Mellencamp, Dave Matthews Band, Rob Thomas, Linkin Park’s Chester Bennington, and David Banner. Additional performers are expected to be added to the line-up as the show draws closer. All proceeds will go to the American Red Cross.
