Names: Lindsey Stirling and Megan Nicole
Song: “Starships” by Nicki Minaj
Why we’re obsessed: We’re loving Lindsey and Megan’s take on Nicki Minaj’s “Starships” with its Celtic twist and aerial views. We’ve been amazed by Stirling’s badass violin skills in the past, when she took on a dubstep track (yes, dubstep on the violin. What?).
This clean-cut version sounds just like the original for the most part, but Lindsey’s killer violin skills really amp up the beat. Although I like how both Megan and Nicki’s voices sound similar, we’re missing the popstar’s spazzed out alter ego, Roman (you all know what I’m talking about). Check out the video below and you’ll see why it has gotten over 300,000 views in less than a week!
Background: Both girls are from the United Sates and have their own YouTube channels. Megan uploads Top 40 covers and some original tracks, and Lindsey uploads various violin pieces.

Violin and dubstep are two words you don’t hear together very often, but don’t tell that to Lindsey Stirling. Although the dubstep element in her song “Crystallize” was a new experiment for the violinist, it certainly paid off.
Stirling is classically trained but started experimenting with other genres like rock, when she was 16. She explains the name of the song on her blog: “I named my song Crystallize because I am a believer in the power of positive thinking. If we believe in ourselves and if we WORK to be positive and love ourselves, we give ourselves power that no one else can give us.”
Stirling is a rock star on her instrument and I hope to hear more crossover and experimentation between genres. Plus, the cinematography in the video is gorgeous. It was created by the Christiensends and features the icy mountains and ice castles of Silverthorne Colorado.
What do you think of it?
