‘Titanic’ To Be Re-Released In Theaters In 3-D

Posted by Christian Allaire on May 19th, 2011

James Cameron

‘Titanic’ is coming back to theatres – in 3-D.

The boat tragedy, which stars a young Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, will be re-released by Paramount Pictures and 20th Century Fox in a new 3-D format.

James Cameron’s Oscar-winning film will be rereleased April 6 of next year to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the Titanic setting sail on April 10.

Cameron says the film was “painstakingly” converted to 3-D and promises “an epic experience.”

Released in 1997, “Titanic” won 11 Academy Awards and grossed more than $1.8 billion worldwide.

Is it me or does the thought of exploiting so many deaths for a “epic” 3-D experience sound so bad? Sure, it would probably have some cool effects, but do we really need to see people hitting propellors in 3-D picture? That James Cameron, he’ll do anything for a buck.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Bar Refaeli Split Up

Posted by Christian Allaire on May 12th, 2011

Leonardo DiCaprio and Bar Refaeli have reportedly split up, reports CTV.

The couple, who have been dating for over five years, ended their relationship last week after they both realized neither of them are ready to settle down.

A source said: ”It was amicable, they’re still friends and they are still talking. They just grew apart and went their separate ways.”

“Neither are ready to settle down, and both have busy careers that have been taking them in different directions.”

This is not the first time the couple have split. They split for six months in 2009 after dating for four years, before reuniting last year.

Leonardo, 36, has previously admitted he is unsure if he will ever marry because seeing other people’s failed marriages has put him off tying the knot.

“I don’t know whether I’ll ever get married. I’ve seen too many supposedly happy marriages go down. I’ve been as shocked as anyone,” said DiCaprio.

“No one can look at the marriages of other people and make a judgement. I don’t know the private lives of the actors I work with. I just know if they are good actors or good directors.”

If he can’t see himself marrying a supermodel like Refaeli, then I don’t know if he ever will get married. They seem to be an off-and-on couple, so my bet is they will be back together within months.

Martin Scorsese to Direct Wolf Of Wallstreet With Leonardo DiCaprio

Posted by Lauren Treihaft on February 17th, 2011

Wolf Of Wallstreet is a film that has been long in the works. Director, Ridley Scott has just dropped out of the project due his new development the Alien prequel, Prometheus. According to Totalfilm.com, veteran director, Martin Scorsese has just signed on to direct the film and he will be working with his favorite young actor, none other than Leonardo DiCaprio. This will mark the fifth time that the duo has collaborated.

Wolf Of Wallstreet is based on Jordan Belfort’s autobiographical novel. The story follows Belfort’s rise and demise. He was one of the most infamous names in American finance, a savvy millionaire stock-trader. But as the story goes, Belfort got a little off track and found himself in a whirlpool drugs, alcohol, sex, and just happened to sink a 170ft motor yacht. He ended up in prison for 22 months on charges of market manipulation. The story line sounds something like a mix between a Bret Easton Ellis novel (American Psycho) and a Thom Wolfe novel (Bonfire of the Vanities).

Hopefully Scorsese and DiCaprio will deliver. They certainly need a comeback after last year’s atrocity, Shutter Island.

Before directing Wolf Of Wallstreet, Scorsese has another project in the works, Silence, also a book adaptation a Jesuit drama set in the 17th century that follows two priests facing Japanese persecution.

Leonardo DiCaprio’s Attacker Pleads No Contest

Posted by Jacob Morris on November 14th, 2010

Leonardo DiCaprio was slashed in the face a few years back, allegedly by Aretha Wilson and RadarOnline is reporting that the woman has formally pled no contest to the felony charge.

With the plea entered, Wilson now awaits sentencing at her hearing on November 22nd, where DiCaprio could see justice served.  The felony charge carries a punishment of up to four years in a state prison—but with time already served in jail that could be reduced.

Wilson slashed DiCaprio’s face at a party held by Rick Salomon—the guy in the Paris Hilton porn video—in the Hollywood Hills back in 2005.  The attack left Leo with a wound that required over 15 stitches to patch up.

Maybe DiCaprio should have gone into Wilson’s dreams and persuaded her to not do such a crazy thing.  Either way, at least she’s taking some kind of ownership for her actions and will have to pay the price for her crime.

Leonardo DiCaprio Gets a Restraining Order on Stalker

Posted by Jacob Morris on September 10th, 2010

TMZ reports that Leonardo DiCaprio doesn’t have to wait in limbo any longer to get protection from a “delusional” woman.

Livia Bistriceanu believes that she is married to DiCaprio and that she is carrying his child, and according to Leo, she’s tried to contact him several times.  This all lead to the courts fulfilling DiCaprio’s wishes and a restraining order being slapped down on Bistriceanu.

For the next three years, Bistriceanu has to stay at least 100 yards away from DiCaprio, which is good news for the actor.

As he put it in his declaration, “I am frightened of Ms. Bistriceanu and feel that my personal safety, and the personal safety of those around me, is in jeopardy.”

Leonardo DiCaprio Donates $1 Million for Haiti Relief

Posted by andPOP Staff on January 22nd, 2010

Hollywood is really coming through for Haiti relief – it’s actually quite humbling and impressive. The “Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief” hosted by Wyclef and George Clooney has an awesome line up of actors, celebrities and musicians, and it will be carried by major TV networks across the globe.

Besides their time and celebrity, many people are also opening their wallets (arguably the most effective way to help Haiti). An example of this is Leonardo DiCaprio who has donated $1 Million to the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund through his charity, the Leonardo DiCaprio Fund, reports People.

Leonardo DiCaprio Likes Jersey Shore

Posted by Vanessa Baker on January 15th, 2010

Leonardo DiCaprio told the stars of MTV reality show Jersey Shore that he’s a fan of the series, which follows the lives of eight young adults of Italian-American descent as they live together in a house in New Jersey, reports E! News. He ran into the group at a Vida launch party held at Voyeur in West Hollywood.

“I was hanging out in Leonardo DiCaprio’s VIP area,” said Jersey Shore star Vinny Guadagnino. “He came up to me and said, ‘Vinny, you’re a good Italian kid.’ I guess he saw the episode where my family comes. They were all saying I’m a good kid, level-headed, have a good family and stuff like that. He was trying to give me some advice about riding the wave and not letting things get to me. I’ve never been to L.A. before, so this is pretty crazy. It was my first club experience last night, so it was wild.”

Leo Upgrades His Toilet

Posted by andPOP Staff on January 3rd, 2008

The King of the world needs an impressive throne, so it’s no wonder that Leonardo DiCaprio has just purchased a pricey new toilet.

According to ShowbizSpy.com, the model-chasing movie star dropped a cool $3,200 on the Toto Neorest 500 toilet. The glamorous porcelain palace warms itself for its owner, and is operated by remote control. The lid opens when approached, and closes six seconds after the user has left. It also features a deodorizor to kill any unwanted scents, and a timer-cleaning mode. Leo will never have to get his hands dirty again.

Of course, the toilet is also eco-friendly as it conserves water. Maybe Al Gore will stop in for a visit with it.

DiCaprio Had Peace Talks With Peres

Posted by andPOP Staff on March 22nd, 2007

LEONARDO DiCAPRIO’s aides have confirmed the movie star held secret talks with Israel’s Vice Premier SHIMON PERES during his chaotic trip to his girlfriend BAR RAFAELI’s homeland last week.

Peres, Israel’s former leader, requested a meeting with the TITANIC star after learning of his visit, and asked the actor and activist to use his star power to help promote conservation and peace in the Middle East.

According to sources, DiCaprio was thrilled to meet the Israeli dignitary and promised to help on both issues.

DiCaprio’s representatives have confirmed the meeting took place, which was a high point of an otherwise troubled trip for the actor. Two of his bodyguards face charges after fighting with photographers during DiCaprio’s visit to a holy site, and the actor was forced to cut short his trip on Thursday after learning his aunt had died. He flew to Germany for the funeral.

DiCaprio Doesn’t Trust Oscars

Posted by andPOP Staff on February 4th, 2007

LEONARDO DiCAPRIO refuses to let the Academy Awards affect the film roles he chooses – because he doesn’t trust the Academy to pick the right winners.

The actor claims too often the best man misses out, so he has learned not to think about awards.

DiCaprio – nominated in the Best Actor category for his film BLOOD DIAMOND – says, “I am quite young. The Academy Awards don’t necessarily go to good work. They are a nice bonus and a lot of people think they are some plateau you need to reach in your work. But you have no control over that.

“To determine how an audience or Academy members are going to feel about your performance is a losing battle.”

DiCaprio Backs Scorsese Oscar Bid

Posted by andPOP Staff on January 18th, 2007

Hollywood star LEONARDO DiCAPRIO is backing director MARTIN SCORSESE to win an Oscar for THE DEPARTED, and finds it ridiculous the film-maker has never won an Academy Award.

Despite making acclaimed movies including TAXI DRIVER, MEAN STREETS and RAGING BULL during his four-decade long career, Scorsese has never won an Oscar, and DiCaprio insists the snub is “almost a practical joke”.

The 32-year-old actor, who has starred in Scorsese movies GANGS OF NEW YORK, THE AVIATOR and The Departed, says, “It would be wonderful if this film was rewarded, I think it very much deserves it. And I certainly think (Scorsese) does. It’s quite long overdue, almost a practical joke at this point that that hasn’t happened.”

However, Scorsese admits he doesn’t expect to win the Oscar, saying, “I learned a long time ago, with Mean Streets and Taxi Driver, that you can’t make a film to get the golden statue. And if you try it doesn’t work.”

DiCaprio: Shooting Movies is Like Going to College

Posted by andPOP Staff on January 14th, 2007

LEONARDO DiCAPRIO has no plans to ditch acting for college because he gets all the education he needs preparing for new film roles.

The TITANIC actor has boosted his brain-power over the years through thorough research, gaining a new area of expertise every time accepts a role.

He tells Empire magazine, “Every movie I do – like GANGS OF NEW YORK and THE AVIATOR – is like taking a college course on that subject matter, and each time I’ve gotten involved with these movies it’s been like a giant tutorial.

“You have to be a detective and you have to investigate. You have to be a historian in that regard, so, yeah, it’s like taking courses, which is great, ’cause I never went to college.”

DiCaprio’s ‘Diamond’ Stirs Controversy

Posted by andPOP Staff on June 29th, 2006

Leonardo DiCaprio’s upcoming film, “The Blood Diamond,” is ruffling the feathers of a group of international gem dealers.

The movie takes on the issue of so-called “conflict diamonds,” the sale of which fueled bloody African civil wars that resulted in thousands of deaths. The violence was particularly prominent in Sierra Leone, where the film is set.

The World Diamond Council, a loose collective of diamond organizations, is urging the film’s producer, co-writer and director, Edward Zwick, to add a scene to the end of the film depciting improvements in the African diamond trade.

“The WDC and its coalition are urging the studio and the filmmakers to present this story in the proper historical context so they can relate how conflict diamonds have improved since then,” said WDC spokesman Carson Glover.

In 2000, a voluntary certification program (called the Kimberly Process) was started to end the trade of conflict diamonds by ensuring the proper sale of rough stones across international borders.

“We’re all aware of the Kimberly Process,” Zwick told E! Online in response to the WDC’s appeal. “The movie details the events of 1999 and are facts are in order. And we’re not negotiating with anyone as to the content of our movie and we’ll make the movie as we see fit.”

The film is set to hit theatres in December.

Leonardo DiCaprio Files Police Report

Posted by andPOP Staff on June 22nd, 2005

And Leo strikes back…with a police report, that is.

People magazine has reported that Leonardo DiCaprio has filed a report with Los Angeles police, saying that he was attacked with a deadly weapon while attending a Beverly Hills party given last week by Paris Hilton’s ex-boyfriend, Rick Salomon.

The former Titanic hottie, 30, contacted LAPD’s Hollywood division Monday afternoon to file the complaint. The attacker ? said to be a woman ? has not been identified.

“The incident occurred during the early morning hours of June 17 when Mr. DiCaprio was attending a party at the home of a friend in Hollywood Hills,” police said in a statement to the magazine. “As a result of the assault, Mr. DiCaprio suffered a laceration to the left side of his neck, requiring several sutures. The investigation is ongoing and no one is in custody at this time.”

DiCaprio was at a party at the home of Salomon around 4 a.m. last Friday, when a woman struck him with what appeared to be a beer bottle, the magazine reported.

DiCaprio’s publicist, Ken Sunshine, sent a statement to the magazine.

“While leaving a small private gathering, Leo was attacked by a woman who was trespassing and had been repeatedly asked to leave the property. The attacker struck him with a glass object before being restrained by witnesses. The woman was reportedly looking for an ex-boyfriend, who she had apparently physically assaulted on prior occasions.”

DiCaprio was taken to a hospital where he had about a dozen stitches to close a wound close to his ear, the magazine reported.

The actor, who is on a break from shooting the Martin Scorcese-directed film The Departed, is expected to return to the set on schedule.

Leonardo DiCaprio May File Police Report

Posted by andPOP Staff on June 20th, 2005

Not everyone loves Leo.

Former heartthrob Leonardo DiCaprio was hit with a bottle at a party held by the guy who made Paris Hilton a porn star- Rick Salomon, as was reported by People Magazine on its website.

DiCaprio was at a party at the home of Salomon around 4 a.m. Friday, when a woman struck him with what appeared to be a beer bottle, the magazine reported.

Law enforcement authorities have begun a criminal investigation into the matter, DiCaprio’s publicist told the magazine.

And DiCaprio may press charges.

A member of the LAPD told Celebrity Justice that police had not been called to the scene and no police report was filed. He added, “It’s my understanding that when DiCaprio returns to Los Angeles, he intends to file a police report.”

Leonardo DiCaprio Suffers Head Injuries

Posted by Adam Gonshor on June 19th, 2005

Leonardo DiCaprio needed stitches to a close a cut in his head after he was hit in the head with a beer bottle at a party.

DiCaprio was at a party early Friday morning at the Hollywood Hills home of Rick Salomon, the other “star” of the Paris Hilton sex video.

A woman who was asked to leave the party hit him with a beer bottle at about 4 a.m., striking him in the head.

The woman was reportedly looking for an ex-boyfriend, who was not DiCaprio.

She was held down by other people and DiCaprio was driven to a Los Angeles hospital by friends. He received about a dozen stitches to close a cut near his ear.

DiCaprio is expected to continue working on “The Departed,” the Martin Scorsese movie being filmed in Boston and New York, according to People.

The news was confirmed by the actor’s publicist, Ken Sunshine. “While leaving a small private gathering, Leo was attacked by a woman who was trespassing and had repeatedly been asked to leave the property,” Sunshine said. “The attacker struck him with a glass object before being restrained by witnesses.”
