Ted Williams, Homeless Man Turned Announcer, Enters Rehab

Posted by RM Franks on January 12th, 2011

By now, you’ve probably seen the video of Ted Williams circling the web. He was the homeless man on the streets of Columbus who used  to ask for change, carrying a sign claiming he had “the god given talent of voice.”

The sign did not lie. Ted’s voice is poignant, resonant, and sophisticated, and soon, after ESPN quickly picked up the video, he was offered a job as a radio announcer for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Magical stuff.

Unfortunately, the magic is on hold for a while so the reality can set in. TMZ is reporting Williams is entering rehab for drug and alcohol abuse. I guess he was homeless for a reason.

We wish Ted all the best in his recovery so he can come back to calling the most boring games in the NBA. The Cavs lost to the Los Angeles Lakers Tuesday night 112-57. On second thought, take your time, Ted.

Jack Nicholson, Ben Affleck, and Matt Damon Wagered in NBA Bet

Posted by Jacob Morris on June 4th, 2010

The NBA Finals kicked off Thursday night, with the Boston Celtics losing to the Los Angeles Lakers.  As is tradition, the two teams’ cities will work out a bet, and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has already put up a big prize, reports E! Online.

The Lakers’ biggest celebrity fan, Jack Nicholson, has been offered up by L.A., and if the Lakers lose, he will have to appear in a commercial for Boston, dressed in Celtics green.

Villaraigosa’s bet also makes certain that the stakes will be equal, saying “Should the Lakers prevail, we will gladly accept your hometown boys, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, as spokespersons for a public service announcement extolling the virtues of the City of Los Angeles, where the climate, the beaches, and the food are far superior.”

As of yet, there is no word whether Boston Mayor Thomas Menino has accepted or not, we’re hoping this big bet will become official.
