Seth Rogen Named Canadian Comedy Person of the Year

Seth RoganVancouver-born Seth Rogen, known for starring in films like Knocked Up, Superbad and Pineapple Express, won the Canadian Comedy Award for Canadian Comedy Person of the Year at a gala Friday held at the Imperial Theatre in Saint John, N.B., reports CBC.

Young People Fucking was awarded the awards for best writing, best directing and best performance by a male (Peter Oldring). The controversial film sparked much debate in the Senate last year about federal film sponsorship. The film was nominated for a total of eight awards.

Jon Dore won best performance by a male for The Jon Dore Television Show, which also won an award for directing.

Juno, Knocked Up Make AFI’s Top 10

Pregnancy and Canadians seem to be a good match.

The American Film Institute has released its list of 2007’s top movies and Knocked Up, starring Seth Rogan, and Juno, starring Ellen Page made the cut.

Both films center around an unexpected pregnancy.

Crime thriller No Country for Old Men and the epic There Will Be Blood also made the list.

The selection was made by a group of filmmakers, reviewers and academics and also included, Into the Wild, Michael Clayton, Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, Ratatouille, and The Savages, CBC Reports.

Missing from the list are Golden Globe favourites, Atonement, Charlie Wilson’s War, and Tim Burton’s Sweeney Todd.
