While Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and The Rum Diary are set to be released in 2011, Johnny Depp just can’t seem to get enough of mingling with the strange and bizarre. According to celebrity-gossip.net, Depp was seen wandering the streets of London, England Wednesday night with his pal Keith Richards. Depp and Richards were both wearing fedoras and looking conspicuously like pirates.

Supposedly the character of Captain Jack Sparrow was based on Richard’s actual persona. Depp has exemplified a true knack at embodying deranged characters on screen from his early role as Edward Scissorhands to portraying the late and great Ed Wood. Apparently during the filming of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Depp attained the ability to play Hunter Thompson better than Thompson could play himself. Depp will reprise his roll as the eccentric Dr. Gonzo in The Rum Diary.

Depp has displayed an obvious fascination with enigmatic people. He is currently working on a documentary that chronicles Richard’s wild life. However, is another Pirates of the Caribbean in the works? Judging by the popularity of the franchise a 5th film seems likely. So, is Depp hanging out with Richards to further his research on the beloved rum swilling vagabond character by leaching off the pirate himself? Surely Richards has a few more tricks up his sleeve.

Jack White Plots World Domination

Jack White has been a very busy, very lucky man lately.

Along with his film It Might Get Loud featuring U2′s The Edge and Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page, White has entered the studio with the Rolling Stones’ Keith Richards, according to Pitchfork.

This isn’t White’s first brush with the Stones – he performed “Loving Cup” alongside Jagger in Martin Scorcese’s concert documentary Shine A Light. Now Richards says the two have been recording together, but wouldn’t confirm rumours that White is lined up to produce the next Stones album.

Details for the album are still vague, and Richards says he is still just trying to rally his band to get writing although they are working together to compile bonus tracks for a re-release of Exile on Main Street next year.

“I’m trying to gather the boys together,” Richards told Rolling Stone. “One way or another, I’ll get them back in line.”

Besides entering the studio with Richards, White spent this year hob-nobbing with Page and The Edge as they filmed It Might Get Loud with Oscar-winning documentary filmmaker Davis Guggenheim (An Inconvenient Truth). In between his brush with the moguls, White continued to forge his own legend touring with his thus far well-received new project, The Dead Weather, bringing them to every major music festival around the world.

If the rumours are true and White teams up with the Stones, 2010 will be just as White a year as this one.

Richards: ‘Snorting My Dad Was A Joke’

ROLLING STONES rocker KEITH RICHARDS insists he never snorted his father’s ashes – his recent comments were made in “jest.”

The GIMME SHELTER guitarist can’t believe people took him seriously after he told British music magazine NME he once snorted his dad BERT’s ashes mixed with cocaine.

He said, “He was cremated and I couldn’t resist grinding him up with a little bit of blow. My dad wouldn’t have cared.

“It went down pretty well, and I’m still alive.”

However, Richard’s manager JANE ROSE tells MTV.com that the hellraiser’s comments were “said in jest. Can’t believe anyone took (it) seriously.”

Keith Richards Is Done With Drugs

Keith Richards says he’s done with drugs, ’cause these days, they’re just not good enough anymore.

“I think the quality’s gone down. All they do is try and take the high out of everything,” said Richards in an interview with Q magazine.

“I don’t like the way drugs now are working on your brain area instead of just through the blood stream. That’s why I don’t take any of them anymore.”

The Rolling Stones guitarist is known as much for his music as for his notorious drug use throughout his career.

Richards recently underwent brain surgery after an accident in Fiji, where he fell out of a tree.

“I’ve had a couple of weeks on morphine,” he added about his post-surgery treatment. “I did try to squeeze a little bit more out of the night nurse. She was very accommodating.”

Keith Richards May Be Charged in Scotland

Keith Richards may find himself in trouble with a local bylaw in Glasgow.

The Rolling Stones guitarist lit a cigarette on stage at a recent concert in Scotland. But smoking in an enclosed public place is illegal in Glasgow, the Sunday Times reports.

It adds that Glasgow city council is investigating the incident to see whether charges should be laid or not.

“This has been brought to our attention and we will be looking into it. Glasgow City Council takes it responsibility for enforcing the smoking ban very seriously,” Glasgow council said in a statement.

The bylaw has been in effect since March of this year, but Hampden Park, where the concert was held, has been non-smoking since three months before the bylaw came into effect.

Keith Richards Gets Traffic Pardon 31 Years Later

Rolling Stones’ guitarist Keith Richards will soon be pardoned by the state of Arkansas on a charge of reckless driving — 31 years after the incident.

On July 5, 1975, Richards was arrested and cited for reckless driving after his swerving car was spotted by police in the town of Fordyce.

At the time, and despite a cloud of marijuana smoke coming from the car, Richards reportedly argued that his bad driving was caused by a sudden need to change the radio station. He was booked, pleaded guilty, and paid the $162 US fine.

But recently, Richards made it clear that the small mark on his legal record hadn’t been forgotten. During a concert in Little Rock, he asked the crowd if anyone was from Fordyce.

“I used to know the chief of police there,” he told them.

Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee (and frontman for the rock group Capitol Offense) heard about the concert incident. He realized that Richards’ impression of Arkansas “was marred by a misdemeanor traffic stop” and requested the pardon.

“I wanted to clear his record in Arkansas as a goodwill gesture,” Huckabee told the Associated Press.

Keith Richards to Appear in Third Pirates Movie

Rolling Stones guitarist Keither Richards, the inspiration for Johnny Depp’s performance as Captain Jack Sparrow, is set to play the buckaneer’s father in the third “Pirates of the Caribbean” film.

Movie database website IMDb lists Richards in the cast of the as-yet-untitled project, and Depp all but confirmed the musician’s appearance.

“We’re all looking forward to the idea of Keith coming in and doing a cameo, and it’s looking very, very good,” the actor said on Tuesday, according to Reuters.

The 62-year-old Richards is currently preparing to resume touring with his band after suffering a head injury in Fiji.

“Pirates” star Orlando Bloom made light of the injury when asked about the cameo. Bloom said he’d love to see Richards playing the role “if he doesn’t kill himself falling out of a coconut tree.”

“Pirates of the Caribbean: Dean Man’s Chest,” the second film in the series, opens on Friday.

Stones Postpone Start of Tour

Despite Keith Richards’ recovery apparently going well, the Rolling Stones have decided to postpone the first 15 dates on their scheduled European tour, E! Online reports.

The tour was expected to kick off on Saturday in Spain, but after Richards’ injury, the group that June seemed like it would be a more plausible time. The group now thinks it won’t be able to start the tour until July.

Shows in Madrid; Brussels; Paris; Bergen, Norway; Horsens, Denmark; Gothenburg, Sweden; St. Petersburg, Russia; Brno, Czech Republic; Warsaw, Poland; Vienna; Milan; Athens; and Zagreb, Croatia are all affected and will be rescheduled at a later date.

Richards was injured while vacationing in Fiji, it is unclear how he hurt himself but it was confirmed he hit his head and needed surgery to relieve the swelling in his brain.

Keith Richards Just Won’t Die

Rolling Stones rocker Keith Richards is back home in Connecticut after receiving treatment for a head injury in New Zealand.

“He is feeling great, happy to be home and looking forward to getting back on the road with The Rolling Stones next month,” said a statement from London-based publicist LD Communications.

The 62-year-old guitarist suffered head injuries on April 27 in Fiji, when he either tumbled out of a palm tree or fell off a jet ski ? no one knows for sure (probably not even Richards).

He underwent surgery in New Zealand to relieve pressure in his head after the injury.
