Katy Perry is now in the history books with Michael Jackson. Perry has landed a fifth #1 hit of her platinum selling album, “Teenage Dream.” She is the only person to do this besides Michael Jackson.
“Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” just climbed to #1 on the Pop Songs Billboard Charts, following “California Gurls,” featuring Snoop Dogg, “Teenage Dream”, “Firework” and “E.T.,” featuring Kanye West.
So Perry is officially a music record holder, and unquestionably pop culture royalty. Love her or hate her – you need to respect her.
It’s official! Katy Perry has sported every single hair colour in the book and still is not satisfied.
People reported that Perry was seen out and about in Los Angeles Monday with light pink locks. From black and blue to ginger and blonde, this California girl doesn’t seem to know how to make up her mind.
“I have been dying my hair since 10pm! Good GOD let me get to my destination tonight! #beenblack #beenblue #beenhotginge #beenblonde #now…” she tweeted last week, “Still transitioning…………… practicing patience!”
I think she should go back to the raven-hair. It really complimented her fair skin and blue eyes.
What do you guys think? Should Perry stick to baby pink?
Katy Perry keeps going through different hair styles. Last month she changed to a redhead from brunette, and now she is blonde.
“So I didn’t get to the exact color I wanted from being black for so long!,” she tweeted at the time. “2get to goal I have 2b GINGER for 3WKS.”
Katy revealed in an interview with MTV that this is the real color she wanted. Brunette, redhead, or blonde, anyway you look at it, Katy always looks hot.
As andPOP reported yesterday, rumours are swirling that Katy Perry and husband Russell Brand are having marriage problems. However Perry took to Twitter yesterday to address those accusations.
These rumors surfaced after a source said the couple had barely seen one another for four months, and they were considering a separation.
On her Twitter account, Perry wrote, ”Just cause we don’t flaunt our relationship doesn’t mean there’s something wrong w/ (with) it. Privacy is our luxury. Tabloids r (are) trash. Gossip is gross.”
Brand had the same feelings, saying “You tell ‘em Mrs Brand! In Britain we’re currently dismantling the scum media so I’m not tuned in to their brain-farting.”
One of Hollywood’s favorite celebrity couples maybe taking a break from marriage. Reports are surfacing that Katy Perry and Russell Brand are having problems with this whole marriage thing.
Heat Magazine reports that over the past four months, the couple have only spent six days together. Katy’s said to have told a friend that she and Russ are “thinking of taking a break from our marriage”, and that she’s “worried it could be the end of the road.”
Her friends told Heat that Katy’s said “It would be heartbreaking if we didn’t make it to our first wedding anniversary, but our situation is pretty bad.”
An unfortunate situation considering the couple looked to be very much in love. Nevertheless, if Katy does end her marriage with Russell, guys won’t feel as guilty picturing her naked. One upside at least.
Looks like rescheduling tour dates is the new trend for pop stars. First, Taylor Swift postponed dates on her Speak Now tour due to bronchitis and now, Katy Perry is suffering from food poisoning followed by severe dehydration according to MTV News.
Perry has postponed two dates from her California Dreams tour to later in August and says that she will make it up to her fans.
“I apologize to my fans in Chicago and the Twin Cities for not being able to perform this weekend, but I am going to return in a few weeks to give them the very best show ever!” she said.
Despite her illness, Perry’s Teenage Dream album has hit the tops of many Billboard charts. If her recently released Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.) single makes the top of Billboard Hot 100, she’ll be the first female to have five chart-topping songs from one album. Not to mention, she’ll break the record no artist has been able to do since Michael Jackson did with his #1 album, Bad.
Only time will tell if Perry’s California Dream will come true and nab the title many artists have been fantasizing about.
If you’re a star as big as Katy Perry, perhaps you’ll have enough power to close down a whole street.
Well actually, that’s what happened.
In a city like Toronto where mayor Rob Ford considers moving charity events and marathons off the streets because they’re an inconvenience to drivers, Yonge St., one of the city’s main downtown streets, closed for six hours just so the popstar could promote her new perfume, Purr.
Appearing almost an hour and a half late, Perry showed up for about 30 minutes of the closure. Yonge St., from Edward to Richmond Sts, was almost empty for a large part of the time.
“It doesn’t seem to make a lot of sense,” said Councillor Doug Holyday, according to an interview with the Toronto Star. “You wonder why it couldn’t have been held somewhere where it wouldn’t block off the street.”
“We’ve got places where some of these sizable events can be held,” he continued, mentioning Nathan Phillips and Yonge-Dundas squares as other options.
Sears, the perfume’s retailer, anticipated 3,000 to 7,000 fans to fill the streets, according to Vincent Power, director of corporate communications.
But with rough estimates from Toronto police and Eaton Centre security, the closure only drew about 1,500.
So a bit of an exaggeration?
I would think so.
I’m actually a bit disappointed with how this was handled. Six hours really was not necessary and most of the people there were probably just passing by and curious as to what was happening.
I’m a fan of Katy but being almost an hour and a half late was not very cool to the fans who had to wait in the sweltering heat.
And besides, six hours of road closures? That’s too extreme.
Katy Perry graces the cover of Rolling Stone, where she shows off her Hershey Kisses boobs. The issue hits stands June 24.
In the interview Perry reveals she has undergone a political transformation.
“It just feels like the thing running our country is a bank, money,” she says. “I know it sounds like an intense viewpoint, but I’m only slowly but surely getting the wool taken off my eyes. When I was a kid, I asked questions about my faith. Now I’m asking questions about the world.”
She continues: “I think we are largely in desperate need of revolutionary change in the way our mindset is. Our priority is fame, and people’s wellness is way low. I saw this knowing full well that I’m a part of the problem. I’m playing the game, though I am trying to reroute. Anyway, not to get all politically divulging and introspective, but the fact that America doesn’t have free health care drives me fucking absolutely crazy, and is so wrong.”
Katy Perry has released a video teaser for her upcoming single ‘Last Friday Night.’
Along with a new song, Perry is also sporting a rather new look. Geek chic? Let’s just say it’s far from her fashion-forward Elle cover.
This marks Perry’s fourth single off her latest album ‘Teenage Dream.’ The video drops June 14th.
Also, thanks to a savvy YouTube commenter, I believe one can spot Rebecca Black (Friday, Friday, Gettin’ Down On Friday) at exactly 0:15 seconds. I wonder what her part will be in this!
Check it out the craziness below!
It seems as though electro-pop queen Cascada has ripped off a Katy Perry song, as noted by Perez Hilton.
Her new song, ‘San Francisco,’ seems awfully familiar to Perry’s ‘California Gurls.’ From the beat, to the location-based lyrics, the song is a clear rip-off. I even hear some of Ke$ha’s ‘Tik Tok’ in there. I mean, really.
Cascada has been around long before Katy Perry or Ke$ha, so why is she ripping off their songs? Surely, she can make hits on her own. I know she’s capable.
Listen to the song below, and compare with Katy Perry’s song. I think you’ll agree.
Now is your chance to own a piece of Hollywood real estate history (well not really). Katy Perry and Russell Brand have put their Los Feliz home on the market. They are asking $3.4 Million.
Gawker reports rumors are circulating the couple are relocating to Ben Stiller’s old house. The property they’re selling is 4,700 square feet and has almost 20 sets of French doors.
For $3.4 Million, its a bargain, assuming you like Katy Perry.
We always felt that Katy Perry was the sweet girl next door, but looking at her tour demands, Katy is definitely not the easygoing girl we thought.
The Smoking Gun reports Katy has a 45 page concert rider. Some of the demands include that her driver not speak with her, and there be no carnations.
As for the dressing room’s flower arrangement, Perry wants “White and purple hydrangeas, pink & white roses and peonies.” If those flowers are not available, Perry will settle for a “selection of seasonal white flowers to include white orchids.” However, promoters are advised, “ABSOLUTELY NO CARNATIONS.” That warning is, of course, underlined.
So more or less Katy is now big time, and now has big time demands. She has certainly come along way since the first time andPOP met her in 2008. See below to see!
A flashy, sexually-charged pop star in her public persona, Katy Perry’s serious side comes out when interviews turn to her religious upbringing.
Raised by Christian missionary parents, Perry lived within an evangelical world that she now realizes was close-minded and limited.
“I didn’t have a childhood,” Perry said during an interview with Vanity Fair magazine.
“”I was always scared I was going to get bombed when I was there… I didn’t know it was more than that, that it was for women and their needs. I didn’t have insurance, so I went there and I learned about birth control.”
Perry also told the magazine that she wasn’t allowed to use words such as “Devil Dog” or “Dirt Devil”, and that her family was “very non-accepting.”
Now married to comedian Russell Brand, Perry is now a practicing Buddhist and doesn’t shy away from flaunting her sex appeal.
Meanwhile, Perry’s mother is now shopping a book about raising the star in which she says that she thinks her daughter could become a great televangelist.
“I recognized the psalmist gift in her performance. Yet she sang out, ‘I kissed a girl, and I liked it,’ while thousands joined her. One part of my heart soared… the other part broke for the thousands of hungry souls being fed something that didn’t nourish their spirit, but fed their flesh,” she said.
Well, at least her mother has become more accepting of Perry’s lifestyle!
You know you’re pretty great when you beat records previously broken by yourself.
Last week, pop singer Katy Perry broke the record for most plays of a pop song in a single tracking week. Her hit ‘E.T.,’ featuring Kanye West, logged 12,330 plays on all 131 Pop Songs reporters, besting the previous record of 12,159 plays set by ‘California Gurls’ last summer.
But that’s not all. In fact, Perry holds the top four spots with all of her last four singles. Check out the numbers:
12,330, “E.T.,” Katy Perry featuring Kanye West, May 14, 2011
12,159, “California Gurls,” Katy Perry feat. Snoop Dogg, July 17, 2010
11,857, “Firework,” Katy Perry, Jan. 22, 2011
11,841, “Teenage Dream,” Katy Perry, Oct. 16, 2010
I know that every time I get into my car the XM radio is always playing a Katy Perry song of some sort, so it’s hard to disagree with this news. Must feel pretty great to be at the top – enjoy it while it lasts, and here’s to hoping for more great singles to come.
Katy Perry’s new sci-fi inspired video for “E.T.” has landed.
The fourth Number 1 single off her album Teenage Dream is directed by Floria Sigismondi (Christina Aguilera, Marilyn Manson) and stars the pop-star looking like Queen Amidala trading verses with Kanye West.
Although it may be inspired after the beloved Steven Spielberg classic starring the adorable space alien, the video has a darker Avatar-vibe feel. It’s definitely a step forward for Perry and her typical sexual silliness such as “California Gurls” or “Teenage Dream”. West is in his comfort zone and doesn’t quite steal the out-of-this-word love ballad from Perry, in fact her alien princess presence somewhat overshadows his egocentric versings.
Perry’s latest single recently shattered records on Billboard, as it became the first album to produce four No. 1 songs on the Hot 100 in six years. Teenage Dream is also the ninth album to produce four No. 1′s in the 52-year history of the Hot 100. The new single even put an end to Gaga’s reign with “Born This Way” that has dropped to number four on the Hot 100.
The video will make its television debut tonight at 7:53 p.m. on MTV, according to People.
Now this is some well-deserved respect for Mrs. Brand!
Billboard announced today that Katy Perry’s album, “Teenage Dream,” has become the first album to hold four No. 1 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 in six years, with the singles “E.T.,” “California Gurls,” “Teenage Dream,” and “Firework.” Not only that, but “Teenage Dream” is also the ninth album ever to produce four No. 1s in the Hot 100′s 52-year history. Congrats, Katy!
“I am so thrilled that ‘E.T.’ has landed at No. 1,” Perry told Billboard.com. “I want to thank all the fans who contributed to this amazing feat and radio, which has been an essential part of my continued existence. I truly appreciate all the support of my creative twists and turns.”
The highly anticipated music video for her hit single, “E.T.” featuring Kanye West, is set to premier at noon tomorrow on MTV.com, VH1.com, and LogoTV.com, followed by its first TV appearance on MTV at 7:53, says MTV.
Leading up to the video release, Perry has been tweeting pictures of fans after having been “abducted” by aliens. The alien invasion has also taken over Perry’s website and Facebook page by more pictures of fans adorned in all different types of face paint and glitter, as well as alien-encrypted posts.
“Can’t wait to share the video with you tomorrow,” Perry told Billboard. And we can’t wait to see it!

In an interview with Elle, Katy Perry says she wants to have babies, even if it puts her career on hold.
“I think some people will die on the stage, and I’m not so sure I want to do that. Like, I want to have kids,” Perry says in the March issue of the magazine. “I’m totally fine with saying that. I think some people are scared because they’re worried it’s going to ruin their career, but I want to live a full life.”
Katy also discusses how having kids is a much more stable lifestyle than when her career was starting.
“I had two cars repossessed, and I was writing bad checks, but I gave myself a timeline. I thought, ‘Okay, if I don’t make it by 25, I’m just going to get married and pop out some babies and do some crafts,’” Perry, now 26, admits.
Just when the world thought Britney Spears may have fallen off the bandwagon for good, the artist’s new single, Hold It Against Me, has made her the second artist in Billboard Hot 100′s 50+ year history to debut multiple songs at number one. The other artist is fellow pop queen, Mariah Carrey.
Hold It Against Me is the fourth Spears single to make it to that position. Although Spears is without the Lady GaGa eccentric outfits and Katy Perry’s fireworks, she is still making a name for herself in the pop world.
We ask the question which has been challenging people for centuries. Who would win in a fight – Marina and the Diamonds or Katy Perry? We ask Marina that question, along with a serious conversation about her outstanding success in North America, and the divide between the UK and North American music scenes.
