Katy Perry temporarily retired her candy-striped costumes and rainbow wigs for a dose of reality in her new video “Wide Awake.” After wrapping up the video production of “California Gurls,” Perry goes to her dressing room and is transported to a Pan’s Labyrinth world filled with glowing fireflies and foggy, ivy-covered mazes.
She weakly navigates through the maze, protected by a younger version of herself. Together they escape a Hall of Mirrors, which is surrounded by demanding photographers wielding explosive flash bulbs like weapons, and a gloomy corridor secured by trippy bulls.
The video is absolutely spectacular and Perry looks GORG, as always. We love that she channels her darkest moments but always spins it into something positive and transformative.
“Well, this song, I have a lot of different emotions and feelings in all of my songs,” Perry revealed to MTV. “This song in particular is a dose of reality. It’s kind of like coming down from a high. You’ve been on cloud nine for so long, and it can’t always be so sweet and sometimes you need to realize that, and you have to pick yourself up and move forward and face the facts of life and know that this is just a lesson you learn and you’re stronger because of it.”
We think she’s hinting at her divorce from Russell Brand, who might be referenced in the video when she punches a knight in shining armor crossing his fingers behind his back. Ouch!
Perry’s new movie hits theatres on July 5.

We’ve seen people arrive in tanks and ice cream trucks at the MMVAs but that’s SOOO PASSÉ. This year, it was all about the human accessories.
Katy Perry (above) brought a brigade of tiny, fashionable Katys dressed in her various costumes. Check out the “Part of Me” mini-army girl, the braceface from “Last Friday Night” and most disturbingly a young girl dressed in the cupcake bra from “California Girls” (she’s getting some hell for that one).
Bieber brought a swaggy baby to the red carpet, his younger bro Jaxon (d’aw), which made people be all like “woa, that’ll be Jelena in ten years.” But we’re not going to think about that for right now because our hearts would explode.

It’s that time of year again! With guests like Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Carly Rae Jepsen, Cody Simpson and Ed Sheeran this year’s MMVAs are going to be insane. It’s hard to keep up with all the commotion this time of year but we stopped by MuchMusic headquarters to talk to Lauren Toyota about what to expect. She and @Jordans_life talk discuss the potential liability of having LMFAO co-host and Bieber-proofing the event.

KatyKats! This may be happy or sad news to you because this is the final chapter from “Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection” but also a start to a new beginning.
Katy Perry released a sneak peek of her new music video “Wide Awake,” giving fans just over a minute look of what’s to come. The little girl in the video resembles a young Katy (so cute) flipping through the pages of memory lane from past music videos stills such as “Teenage Dream,” “Last Friday Night,” E.T,” and “Part of Me.”
Near the end of the chapter, a prince charming appears. Could this lead to a magical fairytale ending where Katy lives happily ever after? You can watch the premiere of the full music video June 19.
Her forthcoming 3D film “Katy Perry: Part of Me,” that will take you behind the scenes of her life hits theatres July 5.

Katy Perry has her own biopic coming out on July 5 and now she apparently wants to star in one of her idol’s biopics. The pop star hopes to play Mary Austin, Freddie Mercury’s long-time girlfriend in an upcoming film about the Queen frontman.
We’re not sure if this is fact or fiction right now, especially considering it was reported in The Mirror and they spoke with a “friend.” Right now, Sacha Baron Cohen is attached to the role of Mercury, which would make this dream casting.
According to the Mirror, a friend of Katy’s said: “Katy would love to be in the film as she is such a huge fan. She would want to play Mary Austin ideally. Katy has a similar look to Mary and would be a brilliant foil to Sacha.”
Personally, I’d love to see her in a Freddie Mercury biopic. I mean, the girl dressed up as him for Halloween.

Looks like Katy wasn’t just in London to rekindle her romance with Florence + the Machine guitarist Rob Ackroyd.
On Thursday night, she showed up to a special screening of her film ‘Katy Perry: Part of Me’ in London to surprise many of her fans by serving some popcorn and introducing her film.
“Hi, is it alright that I’m here?” she asked as she appeared on stage. “We’re going to watch my movie.”
Taking a seat among her fans, she took some photos and even fulfilled a fan’s wish when he asked for a hug!
What a nice thing for Katy to do! Dressed in a cute, casual dress, she seemed modest and looked like she had a blast with her fans.
I would say that she’s definitely living the teenage dream!

Every so often when you’re watching a completely normal video on YouTube, you scroll down and read a light-over-your-head EPIPHANY-worthy comment that changes everything about your whole perception of the clip.
After reading these particular comments, I’m never going to think of these celebrities in the same way again. Drake is a rake. Katy Perry is a beloved crackhead (who we love). And a member of Walk off the Earth is a sea captain (see it?). Mind blown. [Source]

Katy Perry was ballsy in her interview with DJ Nessa and we like it. She covers everything from food poisoning to wearing no makeup to having sex with Rihanna. We also talk about Kanye and the laser light incident in Paris, then finish up with hidden talents.

And that is the sound of Rihanna and Katy Perry lovers cheering around the world. In an interview with Wild 94.9, Perry revealed that she is not recording with Rihanna but that they’re going to have sex.
Okay, it was just a passing comment but Perry revealed muchos amazingness in the interview. Perry also told DJ Nessa all about how to get super close to your significant other (surviving a night of food poisoning) and demonstrated twerking. But (duh) Perry is a good question so she refused to answer most of the other questions about threesomes and having sex in dirty places.
Perry’s movie Part of Me will be out on July 5.

I’ve definitely spent hours on YouTube watching covers of my favourite songs, but when I came across this one from Matt Toka, I think I broke the replay button.
Matt posted this acoustic cover of Katy Perry’s “Wide Awake” and wrote on YouTube, “..it reminded me of when I was stuck in my hometown, being weighed down by family bullsh*t, and numbing myself to deal with it all. My fans really helped me get through some tough times and without their support I wouldn’t be able to live out my dream.”
What I like about this guy is it’s pretty clear he’s expressing his music the way HE wants. He’s not trying to fit into a specific genre or sticking to the punk image. We see big things coming from this him! He’s playing Warped Tour and Bamboozle, is a client of manager Scooter Braun and is signed to Warner Bros Records. His EP comes out a week from today, let me hear you SAY10!

Katy Perry didn’t listen when her ex-husband Russell Brand asked her to axe any footage of him in her new documentary “Part of Me.”
According to The Sun, Perry and her producers did consider Brand’s request to be eliminated from her movie, but decided to keep it in so the film could flow better.
“When Katy first decided to make the movie in 2010, Russell agreed to be filmed on the condition he got to see the final edit. Being a fly-on-the-wall documentary, he knew full well that it was going to be warts and all — and wasn’t best comfortable with that. But Katy persuaded him to do it,” the source revealed. “Now they have broken up, she can keep whatever she wants in the film.”
Personally, I think it’s a bit rude to not consider Brand’s opinions. Since he was part of her life, what’s personal should be allowed to stay personal. Their lives are public enough!
But of course, only time will tell. Each half of the former couple have spoken highly of one another. Perry recently told Ellen Degeneres that she will show everything in a “tasteful way.” So perhaps, Brand won’t look evil on screen!

Well, why wouldn’t she?
Katy Perry posted this picture of her jumping next to a gigantic inflatable strawberry as a pertinent reminder that berries are full of nutritious antioxidants and an important part of your daily diet.
Well, actually, we’re not exactly sure why she posted the photo but she tweeted: ”WE LOVE FRUIT!” along with it. Also, there’s nothing like a jumping photo to prove that you’re absolutely having more fun than everyone else.
Katy Perry released a new clip of her upcoming movie Part of Me and girl looks GORG without makeup. Andy Samberg gave the commencement speech of commencement speeches at Harvard — how can you top him when he starts with a full out make out session? We’ll also talk about reporter FAILs, mainly, how to create a sandstorm when there isn’t one.
I know fashion is all about taking the risks but sometimes I can’t help but wonder if certain celebrities own mirrors. Then again, it’s Hollywood, home of the crazies for the crazies! I’m all for strange fashions but some celebrity trends can be a bit scary (pointy black nails) or a little flashy (mirrored-cars). I guess it’s my job to keep you all in check and show you the top five worrisome trends in Hollywood. Proceed with caution.
1) Pointy black nails
Who: Rihanna, Lady Gaga
This beauty trend reminds me of The Wicked Witch of the West. Rihanna sported these black nails at the MET Gala on May 7 while wearing a Tom Ford black crocodile like skin dress. At least they can double as self defence weapons right?
2) Reflective cars
Who: Justin Bieber, Scott Disick
Like celebrities need to draw more attention to themselves when they go out. Right? Recently, stars like Justin Bieber and Scott Disick have decided to wrap their already expensive cars with chrome. Justin turned his Audi R8 into a mirror on wheels while Kim Kardashian tweeted from her sister’s baby daddies car “Who needs a mirror when I’m driving @scottdisick’s car!?!” You just know it’s a great trend when the Kardashians are also following it (did you get my sarcasm?).
3) Unbuttoned jeans Read more…

In the new official clip for Katy Perry: Part of Me we get a behind the scenes look at a costume fitting for, what else, a three-tiered, multi-coloured cake with lollipops, ice cream cones and other bonbons attached to the icing.
We also see a gigantic peacock outfit (remember that one?) and a dress with swirling candy canes (literally).
The movie will be out on the fourth of July weekend and from this clip we get a bit of the Alice and Wonderland, and Dorothy in Oz element of Katy’s life.
“I feel a real connection to fairytales and I think that in some ways I live in a fairytale,” she says in the clip.”

It’s hard to believe Katy Perry was dropped by three record labels before making it big. She opened up to Ellen about overcoming all those ‘nos’ she received from the industry and her family.
She said she had a strict upbringing and wasn’t allowed to listen to secular music. The industry was wary also, she speculated, because her vision was so strong.
“I just never accepted that,” she said. ”A lot of people wanted me to be like someone — whether it was a Kelly Clarkson or an Avril Lavigne — and I was like ‘ Well I wanna be Katy Perry first’ and they didn’t really understand that.
Katy’s upcoming movie Part of Me will delve into her struggle. ”Sometimes people think that we’re perfect and we know we’re not at all,” she told Ellen. “I think it’s important to start breaking down the idea that to achieve your dream you have to be perfect or flawless or live in a fantasy world.”

Katy Perry fist pumped the air during her acceptance speech for winning the NARM Artist of the Year Award. Girl looked more goth than tired to us, but Perry said she’s exhausted and after watching the promo reel she realizes why.
“I saw why I was so exhausted — because I like working so hard!” she said. “It’s really so fun working so hard, because I like reaching my goals. I don’t know about you.”
One of the best parts of Perry’s speech was when she shared a story about how she was originally inspired to get into the music biz. When she was younger she was only allowed to listen to certain types of music. Every time she visited her friend she’d force them to throw on MTV real quick, like a rebellious little kid would. One time, her friend pulled out “Killer Queen” by Queen and she says it hit her like a shockwave.
“I remember falling down what felt like slow motion in my bed,” she said. “I thought to myself oh my gosh, this music is incredible. These lyrics, they speak to me.”
Perry next plans? She’s taking a much deserved break.
“I swear after this song I’m taking a f*cking vacation,” she said.

Didn’t Rebecca Black learn from the 3 million plus dislikes she received for her viral music video “Friday?” Yes, yes she did. She learned that one bad song could hit Billboard’s Hot 100, get covered by Glee, score her a spot on Jay Leno and in Katy Perry’s music video, and result in her own record label.
Her new song “Sing It” isn’t “Friday” bad. That said, it’s not really good either. It’s a typical formulaic pop song that’s (surprise) illustrated with her and her friends biking, lip synching and dancing on the beach.
Still, you have to admire the girl for turning her viral hit into a career. It’s hard to remember that Black is only 14 years old and received a lot of hate and even death threats online. While most people would cower in the shadows, Black had an entrepreneurial spirit. So let’s give her a little credit.

I always found Kristen Stewart’s interview style to be endearing. Despite being famous since she was a child, it seems like she hasn’t gotten used to talking about herself in interviews, punctuating most sentences with “ums” and “ahs.” This gives me hope that awkward people can be famous. Win. Plus, it’s nice that she doesn’t spew out the same media-approved spins that most famous people do.
Anyway, Stewart stopped by hobbled to Jimmy Kimmel Live! to promote her new movie Snow White and the Huntsman, which comes out on June 1. She was wearing (what else?) a dorky red sweater and sneakers and was limping because she accidentally stepped on a nail while doing a Breaking Dawn reshoot. She promised the injury wasn’t an elaborate ploy to wear flats.
Stewart talked about seeing Hologram Tupac right up close with her friends at Coachella. While she was hanging with Katy Perry (just hanging, no biggie) the popstar decided she wanted to sit up front — and you’d best know what Katy Perry wants, she gets. Kristen Stewart and Katy Perry parted the crowd like Moses to get to the coveted spot. Guess that’s a story for the grandkids.
She also said that saying goodbye to Twilight’s Bella Cullen wasn’t so hard, because she had to do it three times round after multiple reshoots — they didn’t even throw a wrap party the last time round. “I’ve done it three times,” she admitted.

If you’re a celebrity and haven’t been hounded by Stalker Sarah, you’re probably not all that important. The 16-year-old, who lives in LA, has met EVERY famous person, from Katy Perry to Skrillex to Josh Hutcherson.
She has over 4600 photos on her Flickr account of her posing with tabloid headliners, which is how she earned the nickname “Stalker Sarah.” Strangely, in every photo she stands to the right of the celeb in question and has the exact same smile. She’s even developed a strategy to silently stalk her prey, intuitively waiting outside restaurants and airport terminals like the paps.
Sarah has eyes and ears across the city and was there to jump to Lindsay Lohan’s defence after her alleged hit and run. She served as an eyewitness for TMZ:

According to Jezebel she’s so well known she now attends events with celebrities, including a Nylon party and Perez Hilton’s birthday. While part of me is slightly concerned, I’m impressed the girl is so persistant! Plus she seems to be pretty positive about her encounters. Check out her photostream here.
