John Travolta has dropped the charges in an extortion case against two men who were allegedly attempting to milk millions from the actor.

TMZ reports that the accused, Tarino Lightbourne and Pleasant Bridgewater, tried to get a payout in exchange for an “ambulance waiver secret” from the day of Jett Travolta’s death.

Jett, Travolta’s teenage son, passed away on vacation in the Bahamas last year after sustaining head injuries during a seizure.

Travolta’s legal woes with the two men have been long and complicated.  Last year the case declared a mistrial due to jury misconduct after an MP openly announced details of the trial at a political convention. It has been rumored that there were negotiations for a plea bargain as early as a few weeks ago, but now it seems as though John is eager to move on from the case.

We certainly hope he does. Losing a son is difficult enough without becoming a victim of extortion over details surrounding his death. Stay strong, J-Travz!

UPDATE: TMZ  has released a statement from the actor. Travolta explains “the long pending status of [the case] continued to take a heavy emotional toll on my family causing us to conclude that is was finally time to put this matter behind us.”  He also mentions that his family is “thankful to the people of the Bahamas for the friendship, love, and support they provided to us during this matter.” Sounds like John and his family are finally taking the next step in the healing process.

After the tragic passing of his 16-year-old son Jett who died earlier this month, John Travolta will not be attending the Golden Globes on Sunday.

According to E News, his film “Bolt” is nominated for two Golden Globes including Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for his duet with “Hannah Montana” star Miley Cyrus, “I Thought I Lost You.”

However, it was assumed that the Travoltas would be attending the event, following their son’s death from a seizure in the family’s vacation home in the Bahamas on January 2. The family held a memorial service for their son near their home in Florida.

“We would like to extend our deepest and most heartfelt thanks to everyone who has sent their love and condolences,” the statement read. “Jett was the most wonderful son that two parents could ever ask for and lit up the lives of everyone he encountered. We are heartbroken that our time with him was so brief. We will cherish the time we had with him for the rest of our lives.”

Jett Travolta was rumored to suffer from autism and was diagnosed as a child with Kawasaki disease, which causes inflammation of the lymph nodes and can cause heart damage and inflamed blood vessels in young children. Preston previously told People magazine that Jett became very ill when he was 2 years old and was diagnosed with the disease, which she blamed on household cleaners and fertilizers. She said that a detoxification program based on teachings from the Church of Scientology — of which Travolta and Preston are among the most visible members — helped improve Jett’s health.
