Jet Li Breaks Chinese Film Bank
Jet Li is officially the highest paid actor in Chinese movie history.
The Chinese action star has broken a major record with his latest movie that will earn him 100 million yuan — about $13.4 million, CBC reports.
The 44-year-old kung-fu king surpassed his own record of 70 million yuan ($9.4 million) for starring in Zhang Yimou’s Hero.
According to the Xinhua news agency Li commanded the pay increase to star in the Chinese-language epic Warlords.
The $40 million movie spent almost half of its budget on its stars, including Andy Lau and Takeshi Kaneshiro.
Director Peter Chan doesn’t seem to mind shelling out the dough for the famous action star.
“Without [him], we would not dare to invest forty million U.S. dollars in a Chinese-language film,” he said, CBC reports.
