The only thing we love more than a catchy song, is a unique cover with a distinct sound that makes it “different” from the original. Although Justin Timberlake’s brand new single “Suit & Tie” was just released yesterday, YouTubers are already taking time to put their own unique spin on the song.
Some naysayers argue artists should make their own music instead of ripping off other artists, especially when the song was just released. What I say, is that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. By covering a song, an artist makes it their own, separate from the other artist. There’s Philosophy of Cover Music 101 for you…

How cool is this? Suit & Tie using cups? How Anna Kendrick of her. This cover sounds amazing and might be my favourite. The girl has a seriously incredible voice, why have we never heard of her before?
Jazz by LoeAshley
This cover provides a jazzier Amy Whinhouse-esque version of “Suit & Tie.” The acoustic vibe with the soulful voice puts a unique spin on the sound, and sounds incredible if I do say so myself.

It’s the return of the all-stars! After tackling the most memorable Mia Michaels’ routines last week, the dancers faced an all-new challenge. This week, we got to see the top ten perform with the shining stars of So You Think You Can Dance yesteryear. Also, choreographer Benjamin Millepied was on the judging panel! He was the genius behind the moves in Black Swan and he’s Natalie Portman’s new hubby.
Here are my favourite moments from this week’s episode:
1. Opening group routine
This energetic homage to Gene Kelly choreographed by Tyce Diorio was so much fun! I couldn’t take my eyes off of Eliana, playing the glamourous Hollywood ingénue and the addition of funky trash can lids on their feet was a cool percussive touch. I only wish I could hear them better. And last but certainly not least, Tyce made a cameo as one of the dancers. He fit in so well I didn’t even notice he was there until the end, which I think is a good thing?
2. Tiffany’s disco routine
It seems that Tiffany was born for disco. This dance was electric and full of energy from beginning to end and the 11 (yes, 11) lifts were all executed perfectly. Plus, she had great chemistry with her all-star, season five’s Brandon. And the sparkly disco ball lighting and glittery ripped jumpsuit didn’t hurt either. It was dizzyingly amazing.
3. Witney’s jazz Read more…

This week, we get to learn a little bit more about the Top 16 dancers. The weirdest tidbits? Lindsay has a foot phobia, and Eliana killed her pet bird by sleeping on it. Maybe we learned a little too much. And while the dancers’ unusual secrets might be memorable, their routines this week were definitely not. A lot of the routines didn’t quite hit the mark, and got some rough critiques from the judges. Better luck next time?
Here are the top five performances from this week’s episode of So You Think You Can Dance:
1. Charlie Chaplin-esque group routine
This number focused mysteriously around a bright red umbrella. With a bit of TV magic, the umbrella stood out beautifully against the colourless dancers. The costuming was also brilliant, complete with fake mustaches, baggy pants, and suspenders. Even the choreography seemed to mirror Chaplin’s jerky movements and odd characters. All in all, a very cool routine.
2. Amber and Brandon “sultry and soulful” jazz
I don’t know about the audience, but I felt like I needed a fan and a glass of water watching this routine. It was as hot and steamy as a summer in the deep South. Amber looked completely in her element and Brandon was a strong and supportive partner. My favourite part? When Brandon pushed a chair across the stage, which Amber sat on without even looking at it! How do they do that?!
3. Amelia and Will’s quirky contemporary Read more…
Adele gives her money to charity and loved ones, reports Contact Music.
The jazz and blues singer claims she does so because she knows what it is like to struggle.
The 23-year-old singer claims she has had a tough upbringing, so after skyrocketing to fame, she wishes to help those in need.
“The cash has started trickling in, but I don’t come from any money so I help people. I give money to charity and to friends and family,” she says.
Adele hopes to take a break from making music soon, though, and insists she won’t hire help once she is on vacation.
“I have an assistant but I do my own washing. My auntie cleans for me, but I love a good clean as well,” she says to Britain’s Glamour magazine.
“And when all these squillion pounds come in, I’m having a f***ing break so I won’t need any help… I don’t need assistance getting myself to the pub.”
Just another reason to love her – very humble and hardworking. She definitely deserves a break too, and every penny she earns.
Amy Winehouse has checked into rehab again, her rep confirms. Guess she really is ‘Back to Black.’
The jazz singer “has embarked on a treatment program at the Priory Clinic,” her rep said in a statement. “She wants to be ready for performances in Europe this summer and decided to seek an assessment. She will remain at the Priory on doctors’ advice.”
She was convinced to check into the Priory clinic on Wednesday by her father, Mitch.
“Her dad sat her down and said ‘I think you’re drinking too much again.’ So she agreed to go an assessment to stop it becoming a bigger problem,” a source said.
The same source says the ‘Rehab’ singer also downed a miniature bottle of Smirnoff vodka on her way to the clinic “in typical Amy style.”
Winehouse is set to kick off a mini tour in Europe on June 18, and apparently, she will be out of rehab in time. ”She’s determined, and this is all off her own back,” said the source. “It’s just a lapse. There are ups and downs on the road, and there have been mostly ups recently. But this is a down and she’s done the right thing and gone to rehab.”
I don’t have much hope for her, but at least she’s trying to get on a good path. She’s so talented so I would hate to lost her at such an early age.
