Nickelback is a band that has the special ability to be made fun of on the internet. From their power chord-heavy songs to Chad Kroeger’s rough singing, they’re often ridiculed for their over-use of themes involving women and sex and coming out with songs that all just sound the same.
So what better way to respond to all this criticism? Why of course, a new melodramatic music video for their song “Trying Not to Love You”.
Featuring Seinfeld’s Jason Alexander as froth-artist barista, the video shows him trying to impress a blonde customer (played by Baywatch’s Brooke Burns)…among other peculiarities.
While I don’t exactly know what’s going on in the music video, I can’t decide whether I’m laughing at the music video or along with the band’s humour.
I’m sure the guys from Nickelback are cool people. But seeing that this music video is so absurd, I don’t think my opinion about their music has changed.
And besides, haven’t I already heard this song before? It sure sounds kind of familiar…
This week Star magazine published a report claiming that Jason Trawick physically abused Britney Spears. According to People.com, the blast came from Spears’s one-time husband, Jason Alexander, whose 55-hour Las Vegas marriage to her was annulled in 2004. Alexander apparently divulged that Spears told him Trawick “beat on me.”
An audio clip of the supposed conversation between Alexander and Spears was posted on RadarOnline. However, the clip was immediately refuted by Spears’s rep claiming that the voice heard on the tape definitely is not Spears’s.
Spears says that she has not been in contact with Alexander for years and that she is very happy with Trawick.
Someone really went out of their way to fabricate this story. Could it have been Alexander? Maybe he is missing the spotlight after the glorious 55 hours in which he was married to Spears. Like Emily Dickinson said, “Fame is a fickle food”. At least it is safe to say we don’t have another Mel Gibson on our hands, thank god.
