Actor James Gandolfini has inked a deal with HBO that will keep him closely tied to the cable network past the end of his popular show “The Sopranos.”
The three-year production deal will see Galdolfini developing projects solely for HBO and Picturehouse, its specialty movie arm, accoring to Zap2It.com.
“‘The Sopranos’ is a landmark in TV, and the gifted James Gandolfini is one of the reasons for the show’s remarkable success,” said HBO Chairman and CEO Chris Albrecht. “I’m delighted that he will continue to work with the network after the end of the series.”
The actor is launching a production company, Attaboy Films, to help fulfill his side of the deal.
One of Gandolfini’s first production credits will come with “Hemingway,” a biopic about the writer and his relationship with war reporter Martha Gellhorn. Galdolfini will also star in the film.
With less than two weeks before the first table read for the final season of “The Sopranos,” James Gandolfini has decided to step in to the salary dispute between cast members and HBO to see if something can be worked out.
Reuters reports that Gandolfini will be sitting down with co-stars Van Zandt and Tony Sirico this weekend.
So far only four stars of the HBO drama have officially signed on for the last seven episodes of the series – Gandolfini, Edie Falco, Michael Imperioli and Vincent Curatola. The others are demanding higher pay.
Negotiations between the actors and HBO are continuing, with HBO saying they are progressing well.
“HBO has made generous offers to the cast, and, as always, we’re confident that we will resolve all of these matters amicably,” an HBO spokesperson said.
Gandolfini had a salary dispute with HBO three years ago and it went all the way to court before it was resolved.
The first table read for the cast is expected to be July 5.
