Ten One Design, LLC, a New York based design firm specializing in mobile accessories, recently announced that its Pogo Stylus is fully compatible with the newest iPod Touch and iPhone models from Apple. The Pogo stylus is the world’s first stylus that is compatible with the iPhone and iPod Touch devices.
The tip of the stylus uses considerably less surface area than a fingertip, which makes navigating the user interface of the iPhone or iPod Touch easier. The stylus is particularly useful for people with long fingernails or large fingers that find it hard to use touch-screen devices, and prevents the screen from getting dirty or smudged by fingerprints. The Pogo Stylus also comes with a Travel Clip hat attaches to the iPhone and iPod Touch to keep the stylus in place.
The Pogo Stylus is available for approximately $20. More information, visit www.tenonedesign.com.
Griffin Technology has just announced the availability of a new application for the iPhone, iPhone 3G and the iPod Touch. Lucky 7 Slots, a Vegas-style slot machine game, is offered exclusively though Apple’s App Store and iTunes.
Lucky 7 Slots is the second in a series of applications that Griffin Technology will be making available through the Apple App Store. The applications are also available to download directly onto the iPhone or via iTunes.
The game play of Lucky 7 Slots is simple – just place a bet to start playing. The machine starts the game with 1000 credits and allows players to use between one to three credits a spin. When a player is finished, Lucky 7 Slots keeps track of the winnings.
The Lucky 7 Slot game is priced at $1.99 and is now available for download at Apple’s App Store.
Intego, a company that specializes in developing Internet security and privacy software for Macs, just announced the release of its new malware protection program for the iPhone and the iPod touch. VirusBarrier X5 10.5.3. is an update to the anti virus software that the Macworld calls ‘the gold standard’, according to a press release from the company.
Users of the iPhone and the iPod touch can download and install applications onto their devices, increasing the risk of malware infection. The VirusBarrier X5 an scan the iPhone or the iPod Touch for malware , and is the only anti virus software that can eradicate viruses from these devices. To scan the iPod Touch or the iPhone, users much connect the device to their Mac and then scan it with the antivirus program.
The risk of malware infections increases with the number of applications a user downloads. Users that ‘jailbreak’, or unlock, their phones can download even more applications and be at greater risk. When a user jailbreaks their phone, they are able to download applications other than the ones available on Apple App store. The iPhone 2.0 has already been jailbroken, but there is no official word on a code that will jailbreak the iPhone 3G. There are, however, videos available online of a iPhone 3G jailbroken by a group called the Apple Dev Team.
This week, mStation, an iPod accessory company, announced the release of its mophie juice pack battery extender product for the iPod Touch.
The juice pack comes pre-charged and is ready for use straight out of the package. The product houses a rechargeable lithium polymer battery within a comfort-grip case with a non-slip finish. The juice pack provides users with up to an additional 7 hours of video playback and 30 hours of audio playback. The product also features 4 LED ‘charge status’ indicator, as well as a mini USB connector to sync with the iPod Touch and to recharge the battery pack.
The mophie juice pack for iPod Touch is available for approximately $100, and will be available in Apple Stores in August.
If nothing else, Belkin holds up to its promise of creating a stylish case for the already sleek iPod Touch. The slim leather case covers the entirety of the iPod Touch, while still allowing access to the screen, hold switch and dock connector. The case also comes with a thin, clear plastic sticker to put on the screen of your iPod Touch to prevent scratching, while still allowing you to use the full capabilities of the touch screen. The case is very visually appealing – the particular one I used was black leather with white stitching.
While Belkin’s iPod Touch case does an excellent job of protecting the device, not all of its features are worthwhile. The packaging of the product accentuates the “secure Velcro strap attachment” the case has, but it’s not really worth anything. The strap attachment is too small for a belt, and is really only suitable if you want to have your iPod Touch hanging off your key chain. I often use my iPod while working out or walking long distances in the city, so when I’m looking for a case I want it to be able to stay securely in place while I’m moving around. The case doesn’t provide that at all, but, as previously mentioned, its going more for style than for practicality. Read more…
