Deadline reports that Angelina Jolie’s directorial debut titled In the Land of Blood and Honey, will open in theatres just before Christmas on December 23, 2011. The movie, which is being distributed by FilmDistrict, was financed by Graham King with his GK Films partner, Tim Headington.
“Working with Angelina on this film and story has been a great collaboration and I am extremely proud of this film,” said Headington. “The filmmaking is impeccable, and signals the arrival of a visceral and compelling storyteller.”
“The film is specific to the Bosnian War, but it’s also universal,” said Jolie in a statement. “I wanted to tell a story of how human relationships and behaviour are deeply affected by living inside a war.”
Though Jolie herself does not act in the film, her cast features many local citizens who were children of the war in the 1990’s.
“The former Yugoslavia has a rich history of dramatic arts. The cast was extraordinary,” Jolie said. “I was privileged and honoured to work with them and I am very excited for everyone to see their immense talent.”
Both the storyline and the casting notes seem quite appropriate for Jolie, who has long made her interest in world issues known with her roles as UN Goodwill Ambassador and adoptive mother to orphaned third-world children.
