Apple Unveils New iMac Configurations


Apple today unveiled a new line of iMac Computers featuring a brand new enclosure and upgraded specifications.

Available today, the new iMac includes the latest Core 2 Duo processors running at speeds up to 2.4ghz, a brand new ultra-thin keyboard, 1GB of RAM and increased hard disk space. The new models are available in 20″ and 24″ monitor sizes starting at USD$1,199.

“This new iMac is the most incredible desktop computer we’ve ever made,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “Our new design features the innovative use of materials, including professional-grade aluminum and glass, that are highly recyclable.”

Apple today also unveilved iLife ‘08 and iWork ‘08, including a revamped iMovie program and a brand new spreadsheet application called Numbers. Both products work with Tiger (Mac OS 10.4) and iLife will ship free with all new Macs. Both programs are available for current Mac users at US$79 each.

The new 20-inch 2.0 GHz iMac, for a suggested retail price of $1,199 (US), includes:
• 20-inch widescreen LCD display;
• 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor;
• 1GB of 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM expandable to 4GB;
• a slot-load 8x SuperDrive® with double-layer support (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW);
• ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT with 128MB GDDR3 memory;
• built-in iSight video camera;
• built-in AirPort Extreme 802.11n wireless networking & Bluetooth 2.0+EDR;

• mini-DVI out (adapters for DVI, VGA and Composite/S-Video sold separately);
• built-in stereo speakers and microphone; and

Apple Upgrades iMac Product Line

Apple Computer today released the upgraded G5 iMac, sporting speeds of up to 2Ghz, built-in Airport Extreme and Bluetooth. In addition, the new systems now ship with Apple’s brand new Tiger Operating System (Mac OS X 10.4). The new iMac’s also include an updated dual layer SuperDrive, Gigabit Ethernet, 512MB of RAM and Apple’s iLife ‘05 software suite.

“Reviewers have called the iMac G5 ‘the most elegant desktop computer in the world’ and now it’s getting even better,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “With a faster processor, built-in wireless networking, Tiger and iLife ‘05, the new iMac G5 offers the best consumer desktop computing experience in the world.”

The iMac G5 ships in 17″ and 20″ screen configurations, boasting resolutions of 1440×900 and 1680×1050 respectively. The machines are now available directly through Apple and its Authorized Resellers.
