The disco solos on the latest episode of Glee felt like stale covers by American Idol contestants. And it’s not just the last episode that fell flat. Although Glee is losing it’s edge, it’s attempting to win me over again with a cover of Whitney Houston’s “How Will I Know.” Following Whitney’s death in February, it was decided that the Fox show would pay tribute to her.
Glee’s version of the song is a lot more sombre than the bubbly version we’re used to, which gives it a fresh edge. This time, it’s Mercedes (Amber Riley) who showcases her vocals. We’re used to Glee being the “Rachel Show” but this season we’re seeing a lot of the other gleeks get solos.
The song will be part of next Tuesday’s Whitney tribute.
Listen to it below:
It was only a matter of time before Norwegian Recycling, King of Mashups and 90s tunes, put his musical touch on Whitney Houston. The new remix combines three of Houston’s songs with a bunch of current artists, including Adele.
While I like the song, especially Houston’s parts, it doesn’t top “How Six Songs Collide.” I also think Bruno Mars’ “Grenade” comes out of nowhere and doesn’t really fit the beat. What do you think?
Whenever I listen to a mashup I hear fragments of a song that are on the tip of my tongue but I can’t think of the name. Then it bugs me for days. We’ve got you covered though, here’s a list of the songs you’ll find in this mashup:
1) Adele – Fire To The Rain
2) Whitney Houston – How Will I Know
3) Whitney Houston – I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)
4) Whitney Houston – So Emotional
5) Florence And The Machine – You Got The Love
6) Bruno Mars – Grenade
