In the world of celebrity news, there’s no shortage of hits and misses. This week, Kim Kardashian looks like a couch at the MET Gala and Miley Cyrus is Maxim’s favourite beautiful lady (not their wording but we’re trying to stay classy. Key word: trying).
MISS: Whatever Kim Kardashian wore the MET Gala
This Kardashian, who is well-known around the world for her, um, reality show and is also a self-proclaimed trend-setter. Unfortunately, my zero desire to buy floral dresses that look like my grandma’s couch hasn’t changed especially after seeing her at Monday’s MET Gala. The worst part? Kanye didn’t seem to mind it! Come on Kim, we know you can do better…
HIT: Miley Cyrus is #1 on Maxim’s Hot 100
Twenty-year-old Miley Cyrus used her Twitter account to let the world know that she received the number one spot on Maxim magazine’s Hot 100 list. She tweeted “Didn’t know this was coming out yet! I’m so happy to be #1 on Maxims HOT 100! #myfanskickass #dreamsdocometrue.” And to the joy of Miley fans around the globe, she tweeted: “I was bored. So I got Instagram.”
MISS: Gwyneth Paltrow is a wet rag at the MET Gala
Gwyneth Paltrow, told USA Today, “I’m never going again, it was so un-fun.” Apparently, the Iron Man star said fashion’s version of the Oscars red carpet was “too crowded” and “boiling.” And this is why people like Gwyneth Paltrow as much as they like Anne Hathaway—which isn’t saying much for her.
HIT: Prince Harry is Touring the United States
Like we really needed a reason to goggle at Prince Harry, he’s currently touring the United States of America. Never mind his wild trip to Las Vegas last year. Here’s a picture of him and Michelle Obama being all, “let me graciously represent my grandmother who still loves me even though my butt is plastered all over the Internet.” Never change Prince “Hot” Harry.

This week, J-biebs shares the love on Valentine’s Day, One direction teases us with a new video and surprise, surprise, Kevin Federline may be in trouble.
HIT: One Direction goes Global with their new charity Single.
Okay Directioners, you’ve been waiting patiently and today, you can finally see the video for their new single, “One Way or Another (teenage Kicks)”. Last week, our favourite British boys teased us with a preview of their latest project. In this super cute music video, the boys find themselves monkeying around with kids from around the world. Adorable! All of the proceeds from the track will go to U.K. charity, Comic Relief’s annual fundraiser, Red Nose Day.
MISS: Chris Brown is caught hanging out with ex Karreuche Tran.
While RiRi was off in London for Fashion Week, the always charming Chris Brown may have had a little fun without her. According to Perez Hilton, Breezy and his ex, Karreuche Tran, arrived at last weekend’s NBA All Star weekend, but may have had a not-so-secret rendez-vous at the mansion Chris rented out! Karrueche supposedly Instagrammed a pic while at the mansion but later deleted it. Interesting….

P!nk’s definitely got bikini bod ready to go. In her ”The Truth About Love” tour, the singer shows off her sexy physic in a long-sleeved crop top and bedazled black pants. MISS: K-Fed joins the Tax Lien Club
Uncle Sam wants you, Federline. The D-list rapper,who has as much street cred as my Bubbie, apparently owes the IRS big! Brit-Brit’s baby daddy is just the latest celeb to join the Tax Lien Club! According to TMZ, The lien is for over $57,000 in tax payments Kevin missed in 2009 and 2010! I wonder if he’ll be releasing any more “chart topping” singles to help pay this off? Well there’s always K-Mart, K-Fed.
HIT: J-Biebs spreads the love on Valentine’s Day.
This Canadian heart-throb had plenty of love to share on cupid’s holiday. “The As Long As You Love Me” singer tweeted: “U should know you are beautiful. Happy Valentine’s Day.” Awwh thanks Biebs!! But who are we kidding, this tweet was clearly directed to ex Selena Gomez. If you were my boyfriend, Bieber, I’d never let you go! LOL!
MISS: Oscar Pistorius hits the courtroom
The paralympian appeared before a judge in Pretoria, South Africa after he allegedly murdered his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp. Save the waterworks, Pistorius. After he was charged with one count of murder, all he did was cry. Pistorius claims that he shot the supermodel because he thought she was an intruder. Police aren’t buying it because the athlete’s been charged with “previous allegations of a domestic nature.”
We were all rooting for you, Pistorius! Why did you have to let us down? RIP Reeva

MISS: Twitter reactions to Jennifer Lawrence’s acceptance speech
Twitter went a little crazy when our lovely J-Law started her speech with “What does it say? I beat Meryl!” The backlash was a bit disappointing considering I saw it coming from some prominent industry figures (and Lindsay Lohan) because you’d think they know that J-Law was simply quoting the 1996 movie, The First Wives Club. Unfortunately, she had to explain the joke to everyone who’s not on Tumblr while on Late Night with David Letterman on Tuesday night. While her on-stage joke may not have gotten the reception she was looking for, she will have the chance to try again when she hosts Saturday Night Live this weekend.
HIT: One Direction visits Ghana for charity
One Direction is currently in Ghana in support of the U.K. charity, Comic Relief. The five visited Accra, the country’s capital, to meet people who have received donations and support from the charity. While the boys are doing a very nice thing, we do hope they don’t over-generalize the living conditions in Ghana. Hopefully, their world travels have taught them to see both sides of every place so those stuck at home (a.k.a. me) can see the natural beauty of Ghana.

The next time we meet again, 2013 will be well on its way. While I look forward to the new year ahead of us, I can’t help but look back at some of 2012′s hits and misses. Thus, I present to you the best and worst of 2012 a.k.a. the year the world was supposed to end according to the Mayan but didn’t (thanks, Doctor!). Enjoy!
HIT: One Direction Mania
Every couple of years, a new teenage heartthrob comes in to replace the older version. In 2012 though, we not only got one cutie patootie, we got FIVE all thanks to music business genius and X-Factor judge, Simon Cowell. One Direction hit North American by storm selling millions of records, filling up concert venues and causing riots everywhere they went. If they can shoot out more infectious pop hits and stay as charming as they are in interviews, they can easily bypass the press’ comparisons to the Beatles and maybe last longer the few years normally allotted to boy bands.
MISS: Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez split up
With the final blow of a heart-wrenching split, it’s official: Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez were the Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake of this generation, minus the matching denim outfit. With only rumours of a rekindling love affair to keep us warm at night, I’m going to call this celebrity relationship as official over until they show up at the next red carpet event hand in hand. Otherwise, I guess the title of the greatest lasting love story of this generation has to go to Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth by default. They may not be as picture perfect as everyone would like them to be, but they’ve been together for years and are engaged. Congrats, Miley!
HIT: Honey Boo Boo
Whether or not you were laughing along or laughing at her, you can’t deny the attention the sassy pageant princess known as Honey Boo Boo garnered this year. Honey Boo Boo, a.k.a. Alana Thompson, and her rag tag redneck family entertained us all summer long with their unusual ways and head scratching taglines. While TLC has moved incredibly far from the educational channel it initially hoped to be, we can learn a lot from Honey Boo Boo with her high level of self-confidence that many people (adults included) lack. You go, Alana!

MISS: Evan Rachel Wood filmed getting her nose pierce
Maybe it’s because I’m a bit squeamish when it comes to stuff like this, but I didn’t appreciate watching Evan Rachel Wood get her nose pierced. I don’t understand why everyone has to document every little thing they do (omgz, I’m eating a sammich!!). In particular, a nose piercing is something I didn’t really want to see come up on my dashboard, even if it’s a famous person.
HIT: Kourtney Kardashian has a little girl
To continue with knowing too much about people I don’t care about, Kourtney Kardashian had another baby! I know, it’s a Kardashian, but BABY! Babies are cute, adorable and simply cannot be ignored. Named Penelope Scotland Disick, I’m sure she will be just as adorable as her older brother Mason. Now I’m trying to imagine what Aunt Kim’s boyfriend, Kanye West, will be getting little Penelope. I’m thinking designer baby clothes made of pure gold.

HIT: Odd Future’s Frank Ocean reveals his first love was a man
The rising R&B star recently revealed that his first love was a man via Tumblr. His Odd Future mate Tyler the Creator said he was proud of Ocean on Twitter, and in reality, we all should be. Ocean works primarily in a corner of music that has often been considered homophobic. With that being said, he has tremendous amounts of courage as it’s a risky career move to reveal something that personal, but will also mean so much to loads of other people. Times are a-changing, people!
MISS: R. Kelly says “the Notebook” broke up his marriage
The R&B singer revealed in his new biography that he cried at the end of The Notebook as he realized his marriage was nowhere near as loving as Allie and Noah’s. One, I think R. Kelly is an ugly crier. I don’t know why but it’s how I imagined this moment. Two, I really hope he writes a song about this moment and calls it “Gosling + McAdams 4Ever.”

HIT: Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone are invading your magazine stand
Garfield is on Nylon Guys, British GQ, i-D and VMan, while Stone has New York Magazine and Vogue, with an extensive spread. They also look adorable together on Teen Vogue. The Teen Vogue interview is a good read as two banter with each other, Stone talks about the stupid questions she gets, and Garfield reveals his man-crush on Ryan Gosling. I may or may not rush into my local Chapters, place all the magazines together, and label that section “OTP.”
MISS: Justin Bieber is rude to fans as he waits for Selena Gomez
While JBiebs’ star shone at the legendary Apollo Theater in New York, the media blew up a scuffle he had with some fans at the airport. Apparently, Bieber was bothered by the number of fans who were asking for his autograph as he waited for Selena Gomez. “I’ve had a long day, I flew in,” said Bieber. “I don’t have to be nicer about it. You guys are in my face.” Bieber was probably having an off day and you have to admit, it must be frustrating to have no privacy. Everybody has those days once in a while!

According to US Weekly, Drake and Rihanna were getting hot and heavy with each other. While they may not be in a relationship together just yet, can we just take a moment to bask in the potential perfection of this pairing? It may not have worked out the first time, but I think Rihanna deserves a nice Canadian boy to make her happy.
MISS: Amanda Bynes can’t keep herself out of trouble
No dancing lobsters for Amanda Bynes just yet as the actress has been accused of two hit and run incidents. She later dismissed the claims via Twitter and also said she doesn’t drink. Even so, she still needs to keep her hands off her phone and eyes off her twitter account while driving.

And I know, Jessica Sanchez was way cool but it doesn’t even matter if you win these days. I mean, look an Jennifer Hudson and Adam Lambert.
MISS: Zac Efron got himself a pornstache
It’s been a slow news week and I’m tired of acknowledging Courtney Stodden’s existence, okay? What is this? My first whiskers? I know he’s just trying to show us how manly he is nowadays (condom dropping, bra unhooking, etc) and I’m fine with that. Everyone has to grow up. The mustache, though, is scraggly, patchy and reminds me of sad, prepubescent attempts at facial hair during Movember. Just go back to the scruff and all will be well.

From the Havard baseball team to Katy Perry, it seems like everyone’s covering the guilty pleasure of the year “Call Me Maybe.” The band Fun.’s acoustic version is addictive and well, fun.
