Mayer, Joss Stone Join Herbie Hancock on Latest Album

Jazz legend Herbie Hancock has collaborated with some of the biggest names in music on a new album, “Possibilities.”
The artists were required to join Hancock in studio, not phone in their contributions, as some artists now do.
Joining him on the album are: John Mayer, Sting, Annie Lennox, Christina Aguilera, Paul Simon, Carlos Santana, Trey Anastasio, Damien Rice, Joss Stone and Raul Midon.
“I was trying to make something truly collaborative,” Hancock said in a press release.
“‘Possibilities’ is not just the result of interacting with the artists on a musical level, but on a life level. For example, during the Annie Lennox sessions, we talked for a couple of hours before we even played a note. We talked about everything from politics to humanism to religion, all sorts of things. And saw eye to eye on very much of it, especially on social issues. This was the kind of thing I wanted to air out so that when we finally sat down to make music there was a common ground on which we as people felt connected.”
Some artists redid classic songs, while others, like John Mayer, created new music with Hancock.
The album will be released August 30.
