When releasing new music today, half the battle is online promotion. However, contests, signed merch and giveaways aren’t always the best solutions. When working on their latest album, Hedley came up with a brilliant idea, they decided to make trailers. Not for their music but instead, as a tribute to their favourite movies. How does this work you ask? Well, we’re talking about it aren’t we?

It’s hard to prepare for an interview with Hedley. So in this interview, we threw caution to the wind, got a 24 of beer and broadcast the interview live on our USTREAM (andPOP.tv). Eventually Jacob, Dave and @jordans_life ended up talking about hairy legs, their newest music video and more.

If you’re ever listening to records and staring blankly at your fridge wondering what to drink, you’re not alone. A new website called Drinkify was designed to help music enthusiasts decide what to drink when listening to their favourite artists.

You simply type in the name of the artist or band you’re currently listening to and a delicious recipe will appear, usually that of an alcoholic beverage (unless you’re Justin Bieber). Here’s a look at a sample of artists with their paired drinks.

Remember kids: drink responsibly.

The nominees for the 2008 MuchMusic Video Awards were announced Wednesday, and pop-punkers Hedley lead the way with six nominations.

The Abbotsford, B.C., band received nods for their videos “She’s So Sorry” and “For The Nights I Can’t Remember,” with the latter clip scoring a nomination for Best Video. It will go up against Belly’s “Ridin’ (f. Mario Winans),” Feist’s “1234,” illScarlett’s “Nothing Special” and Simple Plan’s “When I’m Gone.”

As previously reported, Hedley is also up for a People’s Choice Award for Favourite Canadian Group.

Following Hedley with five nods each are Belly and illScarlett, who are also nominated in the People’s Choice categories.

Other multiple nominees include Simple Plan, Feist, Bedouin Soundclash, City and Colour, Sam Roberts, Classified and international artists Kanye West and Rihanna.

The 19th annual MMVAs will take place June 15 in downtown Toronto. A red carpet special is slated to air at 8 p.m., followed by the awards show at 9 p.m.

Performers for the gala, which in the past have included Billy Talent, Alexisonfire and The Killers, will be announced next week.

Fans can now vote for their favourite People’s Choice nominees by heading to muchmusic.com/mmva or by texting “MMVA” to 299299.

Hedley Defy the Odds, One Album at a Time

They said Hedley wouldn’t get a record deal.

They said Hedley’s first album would flop.

They said there was no way Hedley would last another album.

Yet last month, Hedley released that second album, teasingly titled “Famous Last Words.” They kid because they can.

andPOP caught up with Jacob Hoggard and the guys for a chat while they were in Toronto to promote the album.

Hedley Kicks Off Free Canadian MTV Tour

Vancouver-based band Hedley performed yesterday at the University of British Columbia.

Their home turf concert is part of the MTV The Leak Live tour, a series of free concerts across Canada promoting Hedley’s upcoming album, “Famous Last Words,” which will be released October 30. For those unable to attend, their first single, “She’s So Sorry,” can be heard on Hedley’s official MySpace page.

“Famous Last Words” is Hedley’s sophomore offering, following their 2005 self-titled album which earned the band platinum status, five hit singles, two Juno nominations, and the Much Music Video Award for Best Pop Video.

Charismatic and nudity-prone frontman Jacob Hoggard is confident about the new album, which was produced by former Treble Charger frontman Greig Nori. As Hoggard told MTV, “The main difference between this album and the last, was the amount of blood, sweat and tears that we put into this recording.”

Hedley, Fefe Dobson to Perform at Toronto’s CNE

Hedley, fronted by Canadian Idol alum Jacob Hoggard, will perform at the Canadian National Exhibition – better known simply as The Ex – on opening day, August 18.

Opening for Hedley will be Toronto-born pop/rocker Fefe Dobson.

The evening concert will be held at the Bandshell and is free with admission.

What else is going on at The Ex? Here are some other events to take note of:

-Graham Kerr of Galloping Gourmet fame will reveal culinary secrets on August 18, 19 and 20

-The TTC busker auditions will take place from August 18 to 20

-meet Argonuats alumni at Sportszone August 18 to 20

-the 10th annual Toronto Urban Music Fest goes down on September 1 and 2 with artists to be announced. Past musical guests have included Bilal and k-os.

-Yuk Yuks comedians performing every night from September 1 to 4

And of course, there’s so much more to do and so much food to eat. The Ex runs August 18 to September 4.

Hedley Announces CD Release

Hedley’s first studio album will hit stores on September 6.

Canadian Idol fans will recognize the lead singer as Jacob Hoggard, the quirky top-three finalist from season two.

The Abbotsford B.C. band’s first single, “On My Own” can be previewed at their website, www.hedleyonline.com. The song is expected to be released to radio on July 19 and will debut August 1st in music video form.

All other top five finalists from Canadian Idol’s second season have released albums. Winner Kalan Porter’s album, 219 Days, hit stores in November 2004. Theresa Sokyrka, Shane Wiebe and Jason Greeley have all followed suit by releasing solo albums since Canadian Idol 2 wrapped last summer.
