From now on, Selena Gomez will permanently be wearing a music note on her wrist. Selena revealed: “I was named after a singer and music obviously is a big influence for me. And there’s music stuff with my mom that means a lot to me, too.”Her boyfriend Justin Bieber is already a tattoo connoisseur, though they’re generally a bit more biblical in nature. Bieber already has a dove on his hip and the face of Jesus on his calf.
Gomez went to Under The Gun in Hollywood for her ink, which should look something like the tattoo in the photo below. What do you think of it?

It has been nine years since Kimberly Caldwell graduated from American Idol and she has successfully shattered the post-Idol curse by managing to stay in the spotlight. With her long-awaited debut album, Without Regret hitting shelves on April 19th, it looks as though she is just getting started.
“I always had every intention of doing and album and getting a record deal, that was my path since I was five. Right after Idol, an amazing opportunity [to host on Fox] arose and it snowballed,” recalls Caldwell, who went on to host many shows including TV Guide, Mark Burnett’s Jingles and P. Diddy’s Starmaker. “At the end of the day I was missing music. I was missing writing, performing and singing in general. I said to myself, ‘Ok, I have to put this aside for a second and get back to focusing on writing and recording’. I had come to a place where emotionally and mentally I was finally ready for people to hear my writing. I just knew that it was the right time.”
Since signing a deal with Vanguard and Capitol Records, Caldwell has been hard at work penning her own songs and collaborating with the likes of Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger and former Idol judge, Kara DioGuardi.
Her new album shows no signs of her ever stepping away from the microphone. Caldwell’s new single ‘Desperate Boys & Stupid Girls‘ delivers the familiar husky alto voice that made her famous on season two of difference this time is the up-tempo modern pop feel that has surely helped the 29-year old crack the Top 50 on the Billboard charts.
“It’s radio-friendly, now and fresh. But, it still represents me,” Caldwell says of the new single. “I have five little sisters and I try to be the best role model possible, although we all slip up and have desperate or stupid moments. For me, this was important to sent the message out to young girls. Rather than ‘go brush your teeth with a bottle of Jack Daniels’, I felt it is more important to say that when it’s you’re not following the trends is when you’re the coolest.”
‘Desperate Boys’ is a refreshingly honest approach to this decade’s synth-heavy jam, it picks fights with the characters of the club scene that the song itself will likely be played in night after night. Most of the honesty in Caldwell’s songs are hidden behind the full-throttle pop/rock-infected songs, where a Texan girl is still holding onto her roots.
“I tend to always go country when I write,” says Caldwell, who notes Reba McEntire, Vince Gill, Alabama, Patsy Cline and Randy Travis amongst her early influences. Admittedly, she was turned onto Heart, Pat Benatar, Melissa Etheridge and Bonnie Raitt and that’s what helped her “take me to the next level, knowing that it was okay to be a woman with a voice.”
She maintains her fascination and love for country music even today. Recently, Caldwell went to the Judd’s concert with her mom and sister “as major psycho fans”.
“We went with no perks, no V.I.P. or anything. We stood in line and wanted to do it as fans and we had an absolute blast. We even cried when they came on stage. Their albums and Winona [Judd]‘s albums are the soundtrack of my childhood. Someone asked me if I was a little bit country or a little bit rock and roll, and I have to say that I am definitely right smack in the middle of it.”
When it comes down to her writing, it reads as an intimate diary as most country artists. On the track, ‘Say Love’, there is a departure from the balls out pop-rock feel of the rest of the album and a side order of vulnerability is offered. When playing the song live, Caldwell notices that it is a song that people can easily connect with “whether it is on stage in front of a few hundred people or at a radio station”.
“When I sing it, I can take myself back to that place and really feel it. I feel like we all get really terrified sometimes, and I have definitely been one of these people who get terrified of the big L-word. Not just romantically, but in general. If we all said it a little more, felt it just a little more or were a little more open and vulnerable, life would be a little easier.”
Without Regrets is more than the title of an album for Caldwell, she has a tattoo of the phrase and says it was inspired by a sign someone was holding up on the street one day, “When I saw the sign, I called my mom and told her that when I finally get around to it, this is what I am naming my album”.
