Eminem, Flea Among Rock Hall Of Fame Presenters

Eminem, Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea and guitar legend Jimmy Page are among the celebrity presenters who will pay tribute to honourees at this year’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

The ceremony, which will be held April 4 at the Public Auditorium in Cleveland, honours inductees who were chosen by the 600 voters of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation. Artists are eligible 25 years after the release of their first recording.

Rap pioneers Run-DMC will be inducted by Eminem, who is returning from a long hiatus with the release of two albums later this year.

Heavy-metal rockers Metallica will be inducted by Flea, whose own band will be eligible for induction next year.

Jeff Beck, a 1992 Hall of Fame inductee as a member of the Yardbirds, will be inducted for his solo work this time by fellow ex-Yardbird Page.

Other 2009 inductees include R&B singer-songwriter Bobby Womack, to be inducted by the Rolling Stones’ Ron Wood, and doo-wop group Little Anthony and the Imperials, to be inducted by Smokey Robinson.

Michael Buble To Be Inducted Into B.C. Hall Of Fame

Michael Buble’s home province of British Columbia is tipping its hat to the Canadian crooner.

The Burnaby native, who has won a Grammy and several Juno awards, was among 10 people named to the B.C. Entertainment Hall of Fame on Tuesday.

Other 2009 inductees include television and film veterans Nicholas Campbell (“Naked Lunch,” “Da Vinci’s Inquest”) and Gabrielle Rose (“The Sweet Hereafter”), as well as Terry McBride, founder and CEO of Nettwerk Music Group, the label that represents Sarah McLachlan and The Barenaked Ladies.

The honourees will have their names embedded in the sidewalk of Vancouver’s Granville Street near the Orpheum Theatre.

Established in 1994, the entertainment hall recognizes British Columbians who have made an outstanding contribution to the entertainment industry locally, in Canada and abroad.

Buble recently made a cameo appearance on the 100th episode of CTV’s “Corner Gas” and is nominated for single of the year for “Lost” at the Juno Awards later this month.

Leonard Cohen Inducted to the Hall of Fame

Leonard Cohen was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Monday, and the 73-year-old singer said that he had never let himself imagine receiving the honour.

“This is a very unlikely occasion for me,” he said in his acceptance speech. “It is not a distinction that I coveted or even dared dream about.”

Lou Reed read a selection of the former poet’s work at the ceremony, and said simply in his own words, “We’re so lucky to be alive at the same time Leonard Cohen is.”

During his stunning career, Cohen wrote such songs as Suzanne, First We Take Manhattan and Hallelujah.

He was born in Montreal.
