Everyone knows the 90s are back! Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past year or have no sense of current fashion trends then I’ll excuse you for your lack of knowledge. However there are some 90s fashion trends that I expected to have stayed put in the 90s to be be never seen from again. Hair buns were one of those trends I assumed would be never resurrected. Unfortunately for us they are back, will they catch on? I hope not.
The Modern Interpretations
Here’s model Cara Delevingne (who’s practically walked every runway during this week’s New York Fashion Week) modelling for the new ad campaign for the DKNY and Opening Ceremony collaboration. Clearly the ad is going for a very 90s look with hair buns and all.
Here’s popstar Jessie J rocking the 90s hair buns on The Voice U.K. with her big hoop earrings and bright red lip she looks like she just time got out of her time machine.
Gwen Stefani is the queen of the mini hair buns. Someone as fashion forward as Stefani can no doubt (pun intended) pull out such an outrageous hair style. This modern interpretation is kind of tame compared to her wilder 90s hair days. You can be the judge and compare for yourself with the pics below.

This week, our queen Lady Gaga posted some Instagram photos of her latest hairstyle. The singer is now sporting long, blonde dreads (and pitch black eyebrows.) While I totally love this courageous look, it makes me quite nostalgic about her past hairstyles. Lady Gaga is what I like to call hairsperation — an inspirational vessel of all things hair-related. She really does give us all that little nudge to say ignore everything and dye ALL the hair!
Here are 5 amazing hairstyles from Gaga’s past:
1. The Bow
This one takes me back to the early days of Gaga. Remember when she used to sport a giant bow made of hair on her head? I still see people copying this classic Gaga look. This is truly where her innovation started to show.
2. The Big Cloud
This is probably my favourite Gaga hair look. A truly beautiful piece of art, Gaga’s hair seamlessly flowed with the lace that was decorated on her face. Gaga wore this to the 2012 Brit Awards where she performed a tribute to her late friend and designer, Alexander McQueen.
3. Pretty in Pink
Although Gaga is no stranger to pink hair, this was probably her best moment. For Flare Magazine, Lady Gaga wore this lovely, spiky pink wig for her beautiful photo shoot. Is it just me, or should she just permanently dye her hair pink?
The Illusion gives himself a bowl cut in Malibu California, somewhere on spaceship earth. Here are his top tips to maintaining a perfect bowl cut.
My own personal advice: PLEASE PEOPLE. Don’t try this at home, it’s only for professionals.
1. Talk in third person and call yourself by a nickname. The only people who can achieve a perfect bowl, treat themselves with respect.
2. Don’t f*cking sweat about it being straight, man. It is what it is and it’s about being crooked.
3. Don’t use a bowl, cut it yourself because “you can’t be bought.” There is no hair salon that knows how to give a perfect bowl cut.
4. “Perfection is the secret to perfection.” [Nods head.]
5. After you’ve destroyed your hair, give it two or three days to settle and grow out.

This instructional tutorial is from 2008 but it still provides helpful tips and advice for the hat-wearing gentlemen among us. No, putting on a hat is not as simple as putting on a hat. It’s a detail-oriented task that requires you to carefully frame your chin with straggling strands and identify the most flattering angle to place the brim.
No, this tutorial isn’t new but it’s timeless because it’s so damn useful. Next week I’d appreciate a helpful tutorial on how to correctly put on socks.

The Internet basically exploded the other day when Miley revealed her drastically different haircut on Twitter. The cut is being described as a mashup between Twiggy, Tinker Bell and Harry Potter‘s Draco Malfoy. Not everyone can pull it off like Miley, so Pop Crush decided to play around with Photoshop and see how other celebs look with her new do.
The result? Most people can’t pull off the Miley Cyrus haircut.

Lindsay Lohan’s changing hair colours warrant an entire post so when Miley Cyrus chops off her locks it’s like OMG guys crazy. She documented the Sunday night hair cut with a series of mysterious tweets, including a photo of a hairdresser cutting her entire bun of hair:
The edgy, short look has a Twiggy-vibe, which isn’t surprising since she foreshadowed the cut several years ago in an interview with ABC when she said: “One day I’m going to cut my hair like [Twiggy], I know I am.”
Although the new look is reflective of her daring personality, she drew some heat from disapproving fans when she started trending on Twitter. Miley confidently responded to haters with: “if you don’t have something nice to say don’t say anything at all. my hair is attached to my head no one else’s and it’s going bye bye.” Hours later she wrote: “my dad @billraycyrus used to tell me “opinions are are like ass holes every body has one.” LOVE my hair <3 feel so happy, pretty and free.”
What do you think of her new look? We love that the new look reflects how she’s feeling.

Brunettes now have something over blondes, redheads and raven-haired girls of the world. They have Taylor Swift. Apparently a subtly darker hair colour is trend-worthy news, especially with someone like Princess Tay who everyone obvs wants to be twinsies with. Not that brunettes are keeping score or anything…
Okay, so it’s clearly not the most earth-shattering news but the hair colour looks pretty debonair on Swift, who revealed it for CoverGirl’s “See You, Be You” campaign. During the photo shoot she showed off a bunch of looks, including farm chic, glam and rocker rebel.
Swift, princess of sparkles and cat photographer, was also revealed as one of the highest paid stars under 30. So she can basically rock a rainbow mullet with a fascinator if she really wanted.

Shots, Shots, Shots! The Wanted are only getting started
Today marks one year since British bad boys The Wanted released their hit single “Glad You Came,” making girls scream worldwide and wonder if there’s some kind of sexual innuendo behind the lyrics. [homosykesual]

Although Katy Perry has dyed her hair MANY times, in a recent interview with UK’s Heat magazine, she cautioned fans to avoid dyeing their hair crazy rainbow colours unless they get help from a professional “I would not advise people to do that to their hair, unless they were using a professional. I had to slowly, slowly go from black to pink, which was my first crazy color. Or my hair would have fallen out. But you can always wear a wig.” Katy admitted. Wise words.
Keeping her disclaimer in mind, here are five fantastic Katy-inspired summer shades that are right in style this summer.
1. Purple — My absolute fave hair colour of Katy’s has to be purple, which she’s currently rocking. She debuted the shade at Coachella and while the colour is a bold statement, she kept her cut simple to balance it out.
2. Orange
This colour was modeled by Katy in 2011 at the Smuf premiere. The Lucille Ball-shade emphasized her 1950s retro style. Damn does any color not look good on her?!

Braids are an extremely popular way to style your hair. Whether it’s for the workplace, the beach or at a party, braids are the perfect way to make your hair look less boring.
But while you’re looking to make the dead cells growing on top your head look more interesting, here are some elaborate and weird styles worthy enough for Lady Gaga.
Because really, we don’t already struggle enough to braid our own hair!
1. The Snake Braid
2. The Triple Plait

I’ve sported a lot of looks in my life. From the Mischa Barton side-swept bangs that infected my high school circa 2006 to the Gwyneth Paltrow angled bob that was popular later on. The styles come and go but pictures last forever. Partly for my amusement and of course, for your own, I deconstructed some of Bieber’s past looks. Perhaps it will give you an opportunity to reflect on your past hairstyles… before you realize it’s a pointless hobby endeavour.
In August 2009 Justin Bieber’s shaggy cut (above) made teen girls swoon for a hair flip and inspired pre-pubescent boys to flock to the barbershop. To achieve the look, Bieber stood backwards in a wind tunnel while European hairstylists gently spritzed hairspray to create secure layer. One hair out of place destroyed the entire look. The beauty rested on the delicate balance of his hair looking messy but tidy at the same time.

When Bieber was having a bad day he wore a stiff-brimmed, oversized hat, as he did in December 2009. Luckily, these unfortunate hair days resulted in a tougher and more mature look. It also created some mystery as to what lied beneath the cap.

This look came to him in a dream but he was unsure how to proceed since 12 percent of his fans were devoted to him solely based on his hair. He chopped the length by a couple inches and flipped the hair up, to symbolize that he was moving on to bigger things. He lost a lot of fans that day but gained some new ones too.

A dark period in Biebers life had him gelling his hair completely upwards with a soft twirl in early November 2011. The cut didn’t last long.

Inspired by retro looks, Bieber slicked his hair completely back with gel greasier than Ross Geller’s. You can also see the faint wisp of hair growth over his lip… It was Movember.

Justin subtly reverted back to his old ways this year, likely inspired by girlfriend Selena Gomez. The hairstyle is a combination of all his former looks combined together. But we’ll only know what comes next with time.
Okay, that was fun. Now let’s all do something more meaningful with our time… [Source]
Are undercuts the spiky Mohawks of our generation? I mean, it’s certainly a statement hair cut that all the cool kids are getting these days.
There’s Skrillex, Ellie Goulding, Rihanna, Willow Smith, Cassie and now… drumroll… Madonna’s daughter Lourdes. The 15-year-old who lends her creative eye to the Material Girl collection showed up at JFK Airport with Madonna to board a flight with her brand new do.
Lourdes continually proves that she’s infinitely cooler than us mere shoulder-length-hair mortals. On that note should I get an undercut? What do you think of the style? Would you go for it?
