Yet another popular rapper has acquired a prison sentence. Ja Rule will join the ranks of Lil Wayne, T.I., and Gucci Mayne, who have all served time for various criminal charges.
Perezhilton.com reports that Ja Rule will serve a two year sentence for his July 2007 New York gun charge. The rapper was caught carrying around a loaded firearm, which is an extremely indictable offense especially in the state of New York. How could we forget P Diddy’s (Puff Daddy, Sean Combs) little gun incident at a New York night club in 2000?
Meanwhile, Ja Rule’s lawyer says that he will be finish his new album Renaissance Project before his term. Who knows, perhaps this prison sentence could inspire a whole new album. He’ll definitely have a lot of free time on his hands.
It has been a long road of redemption for the rapper but T.I. (real name Clifford Joseph Harris) is out of jail, according to MTV. His incarceration stemmed from a 2007 arrest where he attempted to buy firearms illegally.
The rapper was originally sentenced to 366 days in prison, however in December he was placed at a halfway house. Earlier this month he was allowed to return home to finish the remainder of his sentence.
However T.I. still has some of his debt to repay to society. According to TMZ, his lawyer says that he will be placed under “supervised release” for 23 days. What this means is T.I. must be home by 11 p.m. unless he’s performing, in which case his curfew is extended until 1 a.m.
Additionally Harris must complete 400 hours of community service and remain on probation for three years.
Rapper T.I., who is serving a 366-day sentence after pleading guilty to gun charges in March, has reportedly been transferred to a halfway house in Atlanta from Arkansas’ low-security Forrest City facility he was previously in, according to rollingstone.com.
T.I. will spend the remainder of his sentence – currently due to end on March 26, 2010 – at Dismas Charities Atlanta West, where the rap star will be allowed more contact with his family and even possibly have the opportunity to leave the house during regular work hours.
“They decided that three months in a halfway house would assist him with reentering society,” the rapper’s attorney Steve Sadow said.
Jerry Lewis’ gun charges have been dismissed by a Las Vegas judge. Lewis, 82, didn’t have a gun permit while trying to board a flight with an unloaded .22 caliber Beretta in his bag on his way to Detroit in July, and had the weapon confiscated.
The original Nutty Professor actor explained that the Beretta was actually a hand-engraved keepsake that was given to him from the Muscualr Distrophy Association last year during his annual telethon for the cause.
Justice Karen Bennett-Haron agreed to toss a charge of carrying a concealed weapon without a permit after all agreed not to fine the octogenarian entertainer for his infraction.
