Seth Rogen stole the show from Ricky Gervais last night during the 69th annual Golden Globe Awards. Before presenting the “Best Actress In A Motion Picture Comedy” award with Kate Beckinsale, he announced:

“Hello my name is Seth Rogen and I’m currently trying to conceal a massive erection.”

Not only was this the stand alone joke for the evening, it also got a laugh Beckinsale who giggled throughout her lines that followed. Watch the video below and try not to grin as Seth Rogen adds another epic win to his resume.

Last night Morgan Freeman was awarded the Cecil B. DeMille lifetime achievement award at last night’s Golden Globes.

The 74-year-old actor has taken on eclectic roles for the past half-century; he’s played a con, a driver, a president and even God.

Did you know Morgan Freeman once played Count Dracula on the variety show “The Electric Company”. On this particular show, Morgan sings while taking a bubble bath in a casket. I’m not even making this up! This is probably Morgan’s best work to date.

Posted on andPOP:

British comedian and notorious Golden Globes host, Ricky Gervais has promised that when he returns to host this year, his jokes will not be toned down.

For what will be his third time hosting – he guarantees that the new material will not be censored or dull in an interview on NBC’s Today Show.

“What do I care if someone likes what I do or not? I just don’t anymore. If you get your own way, if you get final edit and enjoy what you’re doing and things turn out exactly as wanted them – what else is there?” When asked about criticism over those jokes about Charlie Sheen and Robert Downey Jr’s drug use, he replied: “I don’t know what I did wrong really, what did I say that was untrue? The controversy is irrelevant to me. That is people’s opinions outside my jokes.”

“I’ve never really succumbed to peer pressure. And this feeds into my humour. I deal in taboo subjects for that reason. Not only am I fascinated with them, but I like to take the audience to places that it hasn’t been before.”

Gervais continued: “The guy on stage is a lot brasher, more arrogant, more confident than me. I take a deep breath and go out with swagger … I might even really be drunk.”

On that note, Gervais declared that this will be his last year hosting. Be sure to tune in to the 69th Golden Globes live on January 15th. In the meantime, let’s look back at his previous gigs…

Ladies and Gentlemen, Ricky Gervais! Before Hollywood knew what was coming to them back at the 67th Golden Globes in 2010:

And here’s the most talked about – Ricky Gervais hosting the 68th Golden Globes last year:

The ever-so-quirky Zooey Deschanel just got her first Golden Globe nod with her role as Jess Day on “The New Girl”. She’s up for the Best Actress in a Comedy against veterans Tina Fey and Laura Linney.

While on the set of her new hit show on Fox, Zooey and her cast members discussed her nod, as well as the show’s nomination for Best Comedy. The newly single actress says she can’t wait to meet all the women she’s up against.

“I’m gonna creep out a little bit,” Zooey jokes, imitating what she’s do if she ever crossed paths with “30 Rock”‘s Tina Fey.

The camera guy who filmed the group interview, posted on E!’s website, gave them a bottle of champagne to celebrate.

“Champers is my favourite and I’m a really cheap date. There’s enough to go around to make me drunk!” Zooey says.

The interview is absolutely adorable, as is Zooey herself. Check it out below and root for her big win as the Golden Globes air on television January 15.

“I loved Ricky hosting the Golden Globes. He doesn’t give a s**t,” Bryan tells PopEater. “Look, I’m going to say this because that’s me every day.”

The two entertainers apparently have something in common – they don’t rehearse. Bryan apparently doesn’t warm up before a sold out crowd, and Ricky is the exact same way.

“Everything was written on guitar so it’s a side of me that I know well,” Bryan tells PopEater. “It’s always been on the back of my mind to present these songs in a simple fashion away from my band. I started playing small venues to keep me amused, as a laugh, and then joined Twitter where I got great feedback about performing bare bones.”

Posted on andPOP:

On-screen siren Anne Hathaway is following in the footsteps of many musical stars before her – by appearing on hit show Glee!

Popeater is reporting that Glee creator Ryan Murphy confirmed Hathaway’s appearance just after the series took home the Golden Globe for best Comedy or Musical last night.

“She created her own character, and we ran into her, and I said ‘Really?’” Murphy said. “She said ‘Yes!’ so we’re going to do that. We love her.”

Murphy’s announcement was still fresh news to most of the cast, who heard about the appearance mere minutes before it was announced to the public. Amber Riley, who plays divalicious Mercedes on the show, only got 10 minutes notice.

But most excited of all about Hathaway’s appearance is Chris Colfer, who plays Kurt Hummel on the show.

“Can you imagine a family with myself, Mike O’Malley, Julie Andrews, and Anne Hathaway?” he gushed. “That’s one hell of a family!”

We hate to be a downer, but maybe Glee should stop putting so much money into getting guest stars and spend more time building an actual, sustainable plot that lasts more than one episode? We love Anne Hathaway but Glee is more like a revolving door of “substitute teachers” than an actual show!

The ever-hilarious Ricky Gervais hosted, bringing his trademark barbed quips and off-the-cuff jokes to the stage as the room celebrated the most inspired productions of the year.

Big winners included The Social Network, who took home the awards Best Director, Best Motion Picture – Drama, Best Screenplay, and Best Original Score. Musical Comedy Glee also took home a bucketful of globes, including one for fan favourite Chris Colfer’s performance on the show.

But the most buzzed-about win of the night was Natalie Portman’s statue for her work in Black Swan, the Darren Aronofsky thriller about a ballerina driven mad by her role in the classic ballet Swan Lake.

We’re pretty unhappy that Christopher Nolan’s Inception didn’t fare very well, but you can’t win ‘em all, right?

Nina Tassler, President of CBS Entertainment, said “It doesn’t take a theoretical physicist to see why this show is a big part of our comedy future. The creative genius of Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady and the on-camera talents of an amazing young ensemble have created a comedy that will entertain viewers for a long time.”

The Big Bang Theory just garnered a Golden Globe nomination for Best Comedy Musical. It currently airs on Thursday nights at 8 ET on CBS or CTV in Canada.

Posted on andPOP:

James Cameron

Canadian directors James Cameron and Jason Reitman both been nominated for best director and best picture.

Cameron, the Oscar-winning veteran director of Titanic, is nominated for his work on Avatar. The epic science-fiction thriller was not even been publicly released yet and it is already receiving immense critical acclaim.

Reitman, a rising star in Hollywood, directed 2007’s Juno and 2006’s Thank You for Smoking. His newest release, Up in the Air, stars George Clooney (nominated for best actor in a motion picture, drama), and its dialogue and humour have captured the interest of thousands already.

Alongside the Canadians are veteran directors Clint Eastwood and Quentin Tarantino for Invictus and Inglorious Bastards. The two movies are up for best picture, along with several nominations for best acting awards.

The Golden Globes often foreshadow the nominations for the Oscar ceremonies in March, and this year is no different. This year’s movies contained many of the common Hollywood mainstay actors and directors, only involved in movies that were inconsistent with their past work. Nominees include Morgan Freeman, Meryl Streep, Matt Damon, Jeff Bridges, Sandra Bullock, Tobey Maguire, George Clooney, Julia Roberts and many other common stars.

One unknown actress, however, who does threaten to steal the best actress award this year is Gabourey Sidibe. The actress in the tragic, Oprah-produced film Precious has received remarkable praise for her role.

The list of nominees gives the best indication of movies that you should be checking out this month.

Posted on andPOP:

There’s a saying that the show must go on, and that’s exactly what it did on Sunday — albeit without the usual glitz, glamour and big-name celebrities.

This year’s Golden Globes was shrunk down to a one-hour news conference, after striking Hollywood writers refused to take part in the traditional three-hour ceremony.

The Writers Guild of America, which has been on strike since Nov. 5 over the issue of residual payment for online and DVD content, also had threatened to picket the show. As an act of solidarity, many actors said they would not attend.

So it was without the familiar fanfare that the Hollywood Foreign Press doled out their annual film and television awards in Beverly Hills, Calif.

“Atonement,” which started the night with a leading seven nominations, walked away with the prize for best dramatic film. The other best drama nominees were “No Country for Old Men,” “American Gangster,” “There Will Be Blood,” “Eastern Promises” and “The Great Debaters.”

Daniel Day-Lewis won the best dramatic film actor prize for “There Will Be Blood,” while Julie Christie was named best dramatic actress for her role as an Alzheimer’s-afflicted woman in the Canadian film “Away From Her.”

Receiving the award for best motion picture musical or comedy was “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street,” which also earned a best actor in a musical or comedy award for its leading man Johnny Depp.

Canadian Ellen Page (“Juno”) was up for best actress in a musical or comedy, but was edged out by French actress Marion Cotillard, who plays singer Edith Piaf in the biopic “La Vie En Rose.”

Best director was one of the night’s surprises. Julian Schnabel received the award for his film “The Diving Bell and the Butterfly,” which also won for best foreign language film.

On the TV side of things, “Mad Men” emerged the big winner, taking the titles of best dramatic TV series and best actor in a TV drama for its star John Hamm. Best actress in a TV drama went to Glenn Close for “Damages.”

The winners in the corresponding TV comedy categories were “Extras,” David Duchovny for “Californication” and Tina Fey for “30 Rock.”

The stripped-down Globes flagged in the ratings, with Nielsen Media Research reporting on Monday that NBC’s broadcast of the conference only drew 5.8 million viewers, a little more than one-quarter of last year’s U.S. television audience for the Globes (20 million).

To further put that in perspective, even last week’s pretaped presentation of the less prestigious People’s Choice Awards on CBS was watched by 6 million people.

The complete list of winners for the 65th annual Golden Globes is:

Posted on andPOP:

The Golden Globes must have been pretty lame this year if the biggest story of the night is the tale of Reese Witherspoon’s Chanel dress.

Witherspoon said on the red carpet that she was wearing a vintage Chanel frock, not knowing Kirsten Dunst, of Spiderman fame, had worn the same dress to the Golden Globes in 2003.

So next thing you know, some poor guy stuck on midnights at some online publication does a little research and discovers this. In no time, Witherspoon’s dress mistake is bigger news than her win for best actress in a musical or comedy for her role as June Carter Cash in Walk the Line.

Women’s Wear Daily reported Witherspoon asked Chanel president Maureen Chiquet at an after-party why she wasn’t told the champagne gown with a metallic bust was already worn in public.

Chanel apologized for the oversight.

“We are honored that Reese chose to wear Chanel and thought she looked beautiful,” Chanel said in a statement. “We congratulate her on her well-deserved win.”

Chanel had described the dress as vintage in a press release. Gretchen Fenton, publicist for Chanel, said the gown is from the 2002 couture collection and isn’t considered vintage.

“Reese was told the dress was vintage,” Nanci Ryder, Witherspoon’s publicist, told the New York Post. “It was not. I’m not angry – just a little disappointed, but the big deal is Reese won the Golden Globe.”

And don’t forget it.
