It’s official…The Princess Diaries actress Anne Hathaway has signed on to star as Secret Agent 99 in the upcoming remake of Get Smart.

Hathaway will pair up with Steve Carrell, who’ll play the absent-minded agent Maxwell Smart.

The 1960s adaptation will take place in present day, though Agent 99 and Smart are still working and loyal to secret service agency Control.

The twosome will battle the tyrannical forces of KAOS as they struggle to compete with other spy agencies such as the CIA due to a lack of government funding.

Smallville Star Kristen Kreuk was reportedly Warner Bros.’ first choice to play Agent 99 but the role is now ostensibly in the hands of Hathaway

Peter Segal will shoot the picture that’s scheduled to begin filming in March 2007.
