The Foo Fighters rock so much they actually caused a tremor in New Zealand.

During their concert at Western Spring, the ground was shaking three times per second in a nice rhythmic motion, a geologist says. The cause was most likely due to the weight of the 50,000 fans dancing on the ground.

BBC News reports its very similar to a volcanic tremor found on Mount Ruapehu and White Island.

As much as this could have turned into a great disaster for everyone at the concert, lead singer Dave Grohl must be reading this with a smirk on his face. No other bands have ever caused such an activity.

The band certainly brings new light to that classic song that goes,”I feel the earth move, under my feet…”

Just following his set at the Alonzo Mourning’s Summer Groove show in Miami on July 22, Dave Chappelle received an immense amount of backlash regarding the horendousness that became of his show. Early on in the show, Chappelle caught sight of an audience member taping him and for the rest of his time on stage, proceeded to pick on him and ceased to tell any jokes, “and basically just sat around checking text messages,” reports Perez Hilton. Sound familiar? Has Chappelle been drinking some Tiger Blood?

“This Dave Chappelle set is bizarre. He’s spent more time going back & forth with one audience member, & pretty much stopped telling jokes,” CNN contributor Roland S. Martin commented on the show. “I’m just not understanding what threw him off. He’s complained about folks videotaping his set, yelling out loud. I don’t get it.” He continued, saying, “Chappelle says this is a ‘test of wills.’ He keeps saying ‘tick tock’ & he has ‘nothing but time.’ He’s just staring at the crowd & sighing…He’s been on stage 46 minutes & told one joke.”

At his show the following night, on July 23, Chappelle quickly addressed his “bad attitude” the previous night. Perez Hilton has reported that he came forward regarding the event earlier today, but has not yet reported the nature of his apology.

Seriously, what on earth happened on that stage? We know you’re better than that! But what I don’t understand is why celebrities have been lashing out at audience members lately! On July 12, Foo Fighter front man Dave Grohl kicked out a couple of rowdy audience members during their show in London, saying, ““I don’t put up with that bull**** – you people came here to have a good time and that guy can **** off.” Only difference is, while Grohl’s outburst was at least a little justifiable, Chappelles behaviour is just mind boggling. I wonder if we will ever hear a real apology? Guess we’ll just have to wait and see!

Dave Grohl and co. have been touring through North American suburbs playing in Foo-Fan garages in support of their new album, “Wasting Light”.

Fresh off their appearance at SXSW, the Foo Fighters started the tour on April 8 in New York and touched down in a small Toronto suburban garage yesterday.

The inspiration behind the “Foo Fighters Garage” tour was that their seventh album was recorded in Dave Grohl’s garage in San Fernando Valley. The nostalgic experience goes even further as it was recorded entirely on analog and produced by Butch Vig, who produced Nirvana’s Nevermind two-decades back.

“We don’t want to keep on making the same record or doing the same things over and over,” Grohl said in an interview for Spinner. “So rather than make an album on a big commercial studio, we were like, ‘Fuck it, let’s do it in our garage.’”

Garages were chosen through a contest on the band’s website, which had fans submitting 25-word essays on why they should host an intimate show for 50 of their friends. Eight fans in cities including New York, Toronto and Seattle were chosen. In 2008, Foo Fighters played 86,000 fans at London’s Wembley Stadium on two back-to-back sold out nights.

“When you are confined into a tight space, you are forced to really listen. These shows in little rooms are only making us tighter. We are not ready to play a big arena rock show — so why not get warmed up in someone else’s garage?”

The nearly two hour performance showcases Dave Grohl and company in Beatles-esque suits with Taylor Hawkin’s kick drum in Beatles font. The Fab Four poses and head shakes are perfected by the band and they commit to it so much to broadcast the first half of the show in black-and-white.

For those that aren’t following, the Beatles were a British band from the 1960s that had some good songs and significantly changed music. In 1964, they made their American television debut on the Ed Sullivan Show.

Playing fiercly through Wasting Light in its entirety and bringing out a parade of radio hits, including “Everlong” and “All My Life”, the Foos appear to be in their prime. In fact, the new album has been deemed as their best album in years by many critics including Rolling Stone.

Recent anti-Glee movements by artists Slash and the Kings of Leon have made news lately, both refusing Glee to use their songs in an episode. And now Grohl is defending these artists’ rights to say no.

“The Glee guy, what a f—ing jerk. Slash was the first one. He wanted to do Guns ‘n’ Roses and Slash is like, ‘I hate f—ing musicals. It’s worse than Grease.’ Then [Murphy's] like, ‘Well, of course he’d say that, he’s a washed up ol’ rock star, that’s what they f—ing do.’ And then Kings of Leon say, ‘No, we don’t want to be on your show.’ And then he’s like, ‘Snotty little assholes…’ And it’s just like, Dude, maybe not everyone loves Glee. Me included.”

“F— that guy for thinking anybody and everybody should want to do Glee,” said Grohl on Glee’s creator Murphy. “It’s every band’s right, you shouldn’t have to do f—ing Glee.”

Grohl says he has watched the show, but believes his music and brand doesn’t fit the mould of what the show stands for. “I watched 10 minutes. It’s not my thing,” Grohl said.

Although his comment on Murphy is a little aggressive, I kind of have to agree with him. Ryan Murphy needs to realize that not every band is going to allow you to use their music, I mean, it’s their choice and their decision. And if you’re going to retaliate with rude comments about every artist who doesn’t let you use a song, that’s just unprofessional.

I personally think Glee has gone way downhill since the first season. As opposed to the original plot lines of the beginning episodes, now, Murphy is basically targeting any hit song and using it as a cash cow for his TV show. I can understand why artists such as Slash or Foo Fighters don’t want to sell out like that. I mean, if I hear the Glee version of “Don’t Stop Believin” one more time… I swear to god, I might release an aggressive comment to The Hollywood Reporter myself.

Posted on andPOP:

The Foo Fighters have released a new video for their song ‘Rope’, and the video was shot using nothing but VHS and natural lighting, reports Perez Hilton.

The song, which is off their upcoming album ‘Wasting Light’, was shot using old-school VHS and the soundstage cube was built out of fabric and wood. You can see the video below.

I’m all for being eco-friendly, but this is a bit much. The video has a cool effect, with the natural lighting and organic feel, but don’t they have special effects to get that? I’m 100 per cent sure that shooting it in normal quality and then editing it to make it feel retro would have been far easier than using a VHS recording system. I give props to whoever had to get the footage onto a computer – seems like a primitive task to me.

I do command the band for trying something different, though. The video makes you focus on the music rather than distract you with special effects. I’m always complaining that modern artists never focus enough on the music, so I guess I shouldn’t be complaining about this approach. I’ve changed my tune – well done.

Posted on andPOP:

Dave Grohl is admired by many. The Nirvana drummer, turned Foo Fighters lead singer, and most recently, Them Crooked Vultures drummer, has had quite the music career. Still, he has his idols too. And one of them is in his new band.

Playing with Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones in his new super-group Them Crooked Vultures is a dream come true for Grohl, reports rollingstone.com.

Grohl’s Led Zeppelin love goes all the way back to when he was just a teenager. He’s got three Led Zeppelin-inspired tattoos – the John Bonham three-circle Led Zeppelin IV logo in three places – the first of which he did himself when he was just a teen.

“I did the first one myself when I was 16,” said Grohl. “I tried to get different coloured ink to make it seem pro, but now it looks like someone put a cigarette out on my fucking arm.”

The second tattoo was a bit more professional: he had it done at an illegal squat in Amsterdam.

“It was done by an Italian guy named Andrea whose tattoo gun was made out of a doorbell machine,” he said. “When my mother saw it, she was like, ‘David!’ I was like, ‘Mom, I’ve done a lot worse shit than this, believe me. Look at my other arm.’”

And Grohl paid for his third and final Led Zeppelin tattoo with his first cheque, $400 U.S., from being in Nirvana.

“Kurt and I were living with each other in Olympia,” he said. “The place was so depressing.”

“I took the $400 and bought a Nintendo, a BB gun – mind you, I was 21, not 12 – and got that tattoo,” Grohl continued. “One of my fondest memories of living in that rat-shit-hole apartment was buying a dozen eggs at the A&P, bringing them to Kurt’s backyard, and me and Kurt and Buzz [Osbourne] from the Melvins shooting at the eggs. Those were the days.”

Grohl says that playing with Them Crooked Vultures is like “being in the most incredible luxury car, driving on the Autobahn, flying by the seat of my pants.”

Their self-titled debut album is now out.

Posted on andPOP:

The Foo Fighters are the latest music act to blast John McCain for using their song.

The rockers said they learned through news reports that their hit “My Hero” was being used at rallies for the Republican presidential candidate and have asked his campaign to stop using the track.

“It’s frustrating and infuriating that someone who claims to speak for the American people would repeatedly show such little respect for creativity and intellectual property,” the band said in a statement. “This isn’t the first time the McCain campaign has used a song without making any attempt to get approval or permission from the artist.”

Other artists who have complained about the McCain campaign’s use of their tunes are John Mellencamp, Heart and Jackson Browne, with the latter even filing a lawsuit.

“The saddest thing about this is that `My Hero’ was written as a celebration of the common man and his extraordinary potential,” the Foos continued. “To have it appropriated without our knowledge and used in a manner that perverts the original sentiment of the lyric just tarnishes the song.”

The Republicans have hit back, saying they paid for licenses from performing rights organizations and therefore have permission to play millions of different songs, including “My Hero.”

Posted on andPOP:

The Foo Fighters were joined onstage by two rock legends during their show in London Friday.

Week-long rumours were confirmed when Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page and bassist John Paul Jones appeared during the encore of the Foos’ second night at Wembley Stadium.

The two Brits joined the U.S. band in performing the Zeppelin classics “Rock and Roll” and “Ramble On,” with the former song seeing Foos singer Dave Grohl return to the drumkit and Foos drummer Taylor Hawkins taking over lead vocals.

The night was capped off by a big fireworks display.

The special show marked the first time members of Led Zeppelin have reunited onstage since the band played a one-off gig at London’s O2 Arena last December.

Led Zeppelin, who rank No.1 on VH1′s “100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock,” reached the height of its popularity in the ’70s and has sold more than 300 million albums worldwide.

Posted on andPOP:

Country musician Glen Campbell is going over to the rock side on his new album, which features the 72-year-old singer/guitarist covering hits from the likes of the Foo Fighters, U2, Green Day and Travis.

“Meet Glen Campbell,” due in stores August 19, will see the country legend reaching out to a new generation of fans by putting his own spin on both older and contemporary tunes.

“I really like all of the songs and I had a great time recording them,” Campbell said in a statement. “While I didn’t write these songs, this sounds like a Glen Campbell album, which is important to me.”

Among the songs Campbell covers are the Foos’ “Times Like These,” U2′s “All I Want Is You,” Green Day’s “Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)” and Travis’ “Sing.”

Campbell’s career spans more than five decades and boasts five Grammy wins. He also hosted a TV variety show called “The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour,” which aired on CBS from 1969 to 1972.

Here are the songs that will be on the album:

1. Jesus (Velvet Underground)
2. All I Want Is You (U2)
3. Times Like These (Foo Fighters)
4. Grow Old With Me (John Lennon)
5. Angel Dream (Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers)
6. Sadly Beautiful (The Replacements)
7. Sing (Travis)
8. These Days (Jackson Browne)
9. Walls (Circus) (Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers)
10. Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life) (Green Day)

Posted on andPOP:

FOO FIGHTERS star TAYLOR HAWKINS is still scratching his head after watching PRINCE cover the group’s BEST OF ME during his Super Bowl halftime performance – he thought the pop superstar hated the rockers.

The rockers recorded a cover of Prince’s DARLING NICKY in 2004 and asked the PURPLE RAIN hitmaker for permission to release the track, prompting the reclusive star to rage at them.

Drummer Hawkins recalls, “We wanted to put it out here in the States, but Prince wouldn’t let us. I heard that he didn’t like our version. Or maybe he just didn’t like us doing it.”

Prince then publicly blasted the Foo Fighters urging them to write their own songs, so Hawkins was bemused when the superstar performed Best Of Me at the Super Bowl in Miami, Florida on Sunday.

Hawkins tells MTV News, “I have no idea why he did it, but I’d love to find out… The thought went through my head that maybe he was doing it as a sort of ‘F**k you’ to us, or maybe he really likes the song.

“Either way, it was pretty amazing to have a guy like Prince covering one of our songs – and actually doing it better than we did.

“I was watching the game at our producer’s house. I mean, I’m outside smoking a cigarette and someone sticks their head outside and goes, ‘Uh, dude, Prince is doing your song.’”

Posted on andPOP:

It hasn’t actually been announced yet, but it looks as though Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters will hit Toronto’s Hummingbird Centre on August 23.

The tour will be all-acoustic, in support of the second disc from the Foo Fighter’s latest album, “In Your Honor” (rock versions of the songs appeared on disc one of the record). Several additional musicians will join the band on stage, including former Foo Fighter guitarist Pat Smear and That Dog?s Petra Haden on violin.

Timmy Curran will open on the tour?s July dates, while Pixies? Frank Black holds the support slot in August (presumably including the Toronto show).
