And now we intend to have a very serious face-off between Lady Gaga and Avril Lavigne’s (slightly shocking) new hairstyles.
In one corner we have Lady Gaga, who shaved the back of her head in honour of photographer Terry Richardson’s late mother. “I did it for u Terry,” she wrote on Twitter. “I’m sorry about ure mommy….” Unfortunately, Richardson’s mom passed away yesterday (Sept. 11). We love that Gaga’s hairstyle is a tribute to one of her friends. However, considering she wears so many colourful and cray wigs, we’re guessing this look will only come out once in a while.
Meanwhile, Avril found a way to make her Skrillex-esque undercut more unique, by adding in streaks of pink and green. Yikes! A lot of people are adding the self-dye job to her list of questionable decisions of late, which also includes marrying Nickelback singer Chad Kroeger (jk, jk).
“Tonight I got a little wild with my hair dye in my hotel room,” Avril said to Us Weekly at her runway show in NYC. “I just got dye happy and dyed my whole hair blond and then went crazy with these colors and studs.”
What do you think of the new looks?

Back to School means varsity jackets. Taylor Swift rocked this transitional look by pairing short-shorts with the fall staple. Oxfords will reign again this season as the footwear of choice.
Taylor even made our best dressed list this week with this look!

Shorts, Forever 21, $22

I hate to say it, but last night was one of the most boring red carpets I’ve seen in a while. I always look forward to the VMAs because the younger generation of celebs either go all out in unconventional styles (it’s where Lady Gaga wore her smelly meat dress) or theyat leastkeep it fun and simple. It’s a lot more down to Earth than the more snobby arenas.
Last night we saw a lot of white and black gowns and while everyone looked okay, nobody really stood out in that “ZOMG I can’t believe she wore that” or “get my pocketbook Jinx I’m buying that dress now” sort of way. Nicki Minaj (above) wore a lace cat suit with sequin detailing that was way out there in a WTF-way, but other than that it was pretty tame.
Emma Watson
Emma Watson picked up a lot of slack for her contrasting Peter Pilotto orange top and graphic skirt, however, it was one of my fave looks of the night. She looked youthful and fun, especially next to all the boring black and white most of the other celebs wore on the carpet. While some people claimed she looked half her age, you have to remember, she’s only 22!! She can still go there…
Taylor Swift

I’m absolutely in love with Taylor Swift’s white J. Mendel silk crepe suit . Menswear-inspired looks are right on trend but she mixed it up by adding a bold red lip. While I would have loved to see her in something more youthful, the well-cut suit is very chic and a Diane Keaton-way.

Taylor Swift
What she’s wearing: T-Swift was spotted in NYC in mustard short shorts, a yellow and navy letterman jacket, wayfarer sunglasses, and her guitar.
Why we love it: If the singer wasn’t 22 you would have thought she was heading back to high school in this look. Even if she was going to hit the books, she’d be looking cute doing so. The mustard yellow is a hot fall colour, but the short shorts and the sunglasses still scream summer! Also you can’t go wrong with a guitar, one of the coolest accessories one could possibly have. Just make sure you know how to play it.
Takeaway: The letterman jacket is a hot item for guys — so ladies don’t be afraid to shop in the men’s section and find one for yourself. (Really you should always take a stroll in the men’s section to snag some unique items.) Who needs a boyfriend to lend you theirs when you can be an independent women and pay for one your own? Can I get an amen!
Carly Rae Jepsen
What she’s wearing: The Canadian pop singer was snapped in colourful printed pants and a white blouse on her way to an interview in London, England.
Why we love it: Abstract graphic prints have been a huge trend for the past year, but we hardly see them in pant form. Jepsen‘s pants make a bold statement and are a nice change from jeans and coloured denim/pants we usually see. Her loose, white blouse provides contrast to the bold pants and contrasts the slim cut of the pants.
Takeaway: Pair printed pants with a neutral/solid top to add balance. If printed pants aren’t available, printed leggings are another option to consider.

Man, we sure hope so. I mean if the Kardashians and JWOWW can easily transition to the world of fashion, why can’t Karl Lagerfeld’s cat?
It seems as though his fluffy, white feline known as Choupette, might have a forthcoming clothing line with online retailer Net-a-Porter.
Two promos were released this week, including a behind the scenes look at Choupette’s day, from her POV. The cat directs a photoshoot, offering sartorial advice on heel selection and schmoozing the model until he ultimately finds his way to Karl, who gives him a big old smooch.
The video was actually created to celebrate the new Karl for Karl Lagerfeld collection available online, but it does raise the question: When will Choupette make her design debut? The socialite already has quite a following, sharing her daily musings on Twitter. Read more…

Carly Rae Jepsen
What she’s wearing: The Canadian popstar performed on The Today Show wearing a coral Kelly Wearstler dress paired with printed Alice + Olivia “Juliet” wedges, an ASOS necklace, and a white studded belt.
Why we love it: Coral is on trend as the summer colour for lips, so Jepsen took it a step further by wearing it in a bright summer dress. The watercolour-type pattern creates a cool graphic design and is accented well with her silver accessories.
Takeaway: Monochromatic looks are on trend but make sure to use a different colour for your accessories so things aren’t too matchy matchy.
The Wanted

What they’re wearing: The UK boy band performed at the John F. Kennedy airport in NYC for the JetBlue Live From T5 Concert series, wearing graphic tees, jeans, a sport coat, chambray, and more.
Why we love it: Well it’s more that we like four out of five of the looks and excluding Jay would just seem too cruel. Siva, in the grey sport coat, looks the most put-together with his slightly monochromatic look. His T-shirt has a hint of navy, which gives a subtle pop of colour. Tom and Nathan rock the cool graphic tees, but I give the edge to Nathan since his mustached monocle print is more fun and his khakis set him apart from the rest of the group. Max wears a light blue short-sleeve button-down in chambray (a light woven fabric resembling denim) — a fabric that has made a major comeback. And Jay, well he’s wearing a novelty tee that can be either seen as vulgar or hilarious, nothing fashionable about it. However since Jay is known for his sense of humor he can get away with it, but he does bring down the group’s fashion average. Sorry!
Takeway: When choosing graphic tees try choosing a graphic that suits your personality because they’ll send a message to others about you. Try staying away from novelty tees because they may seem funny at first sight but the joke usually is over by the second glance, then you’ll be the joke instead of your shirt.

You know celebrities are too rich for their own good when they let their significant others take over their whole wardrobe. Because in the case of Kim Kardashian, that’s exactly what she let Kanye West do in an upcoming episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians.
In the preview of Sunday’s episode, Kim is given an ultimatum to ditch the entire wardrobe she currently has while Kanye proposes that he’ll purchase the replacement.
With a whole new and expensive wardrobe provided for free, it’s obvious Kim obliges.
As she and her main squeeze check out the new clothes, Kanye is quick to praise his own pickings saying, “Look how dope this s–t is.”
And as he knows his mission is complete after Kim comes out in a dress with a very plunging neckline, he comments, “[You're] getting on best dressed lists now. You’re stepping into this territory. You look amazing — it’s a new Kim!”
I’m by no means a fan of a man taking control of a woman’s wardrobe. Because really, who gives Kanye the right to tell Kim what to wear? But after watching the video, I could not help but laugh at the sheer ridiculousness of it. How nice it must be to be rich and buy a completely new wardrobe. And given that the pile of her old clothes was massive, I sure as hell hope she ACTUALLY donated it to a good cause!
That being said, do you like Kimye? Or is Kanye West being too controlling?
Watch the Kanye make Kim throw out her wardrobe here.

Nina Dobrev
What she wore: The Vampire Diaries star celebrated her September Ocean Drive magazine cover in a strapless graphic GUiSHEM by Guillermo Jop dress.
Why we love it: The dress has an awesome geometric pattern that takes your eyes on a journey all over the dress. It’s a sexy cocktail dress but that pattern makes it modern and cool. The solid black insets at the waist, giving her that coveted hourglass shape and an even more stunning silhouette.
Takeaway: The eye-catching graphic pattern might scare off more conservative people, however the striking black, white and grey colour-scheme makes it approachable. Dresses with black insets or black side panelling are great for all shapes and sizes because it creates an hourglass silhouette illusion. Dobrev’s dress sure is hypnotizing!
Shenae Grimes
What she wore: The 90210 actress wore a pink sheer lace LOFT top with a leather skirt and black blazer at LOFT and Giuliana Rancic’s “Live in Pink” event in West Hollywood, California.
Why we love it: If you ever heard the song “Leather and Lace” then you can see what kind of look Grimes’ was channeling, and we love it! The look mixes both sweet and feminine lace with tough and sexy leather, and adds smart and clever with her blazer (the epitome of a modern woman). But all that aside, it’s a cool look that one can rock back to school despite the sheerness of the top (obviously opt for something not as see-through). Plus the statement necklaces adds a nice touch of metallic but also doesn’t distract you form the rest of the outfit.
Takeaway: Try mixing two different styles together to get a more complex and unique look. Mixing sweet bohemian with tough rocker chick can show the world there is more to you than meets the eye.
Josh Hutcherson
What he wore: The Hunger Games star wore a Levi’s Trucker Jacket, a white tee, dark denim, and lace up Vans at CBS’ “Teacher’s Rock Special Live Concert” in Los Angeles, California.
Why we love it: Hutcherson sported the classic All-American look: jeans, a white tee and a denim jacket. I know what you’re thinking and yes the denim jacket-jeans combo is also called the Canadian Tuxedo, but that’s specific to when the wash (colour) of denim is the exact same (or very similar) for both the jacket and the pants. Opting for the darker denim, Hutcherson had more versatility with this clean and casual look, whereas if he went lighter, he wouldn’t look as cool. (If you don’t believe me, click here.)
Takeaway: Having a denim jacket is a solid investment for anyone to have and works year round, except for winter. But make sure that if you’re going to pair it with jeans go for a drastically different wash or even coloured denim. (Try sticking with khakis because it’ll make your life a lot easier.) Kate

One Direction

What they’re wearing: The quintet performed at the London Olympic closing ceremony dressed in very dapper casualwear. What you see is an array of slim-fit chinos, crisp button-ups, converse sneakers, tailored jackets, and of course Zayn’s fedora.
Why we love it: The band coordinated their looks in a cool and neutral colour scheme, which consisted of blues, greys, and whites. This way, they each maintained their own respective styles while looking like a cohesive group. (Hence no real outstanding favourite!) Together, the looks are the perfect balance of dressed-up and relaxed cool, which makes sense for such an important occasion (I’m looking at you hoodie-wearing Ed Sheeren!). While the Olympics are an important international event, the closing ceremony is essentially a big farewell party.
Takeaway You can essentially wear any of these looks for day or night. Well, perhaps not Harry’s suit, but a well-tailored suit is still a must-have regardless! Sidenote: last week I talked about untucked shirts — well untucked shirts become hipper with a buttoned collar button.
Mel C (aka Sporty Spice)

What she’s wearing: Sporty Spice joined the other Spice Girls in a custom JD Sports jumpsuit at the 2012 London Olympic closing ceremony.
Why we love it: While One Direction coordinated their looks, we knew the Spice Girls were gonna give us a major fashion show. How can they not with fashion icon Victoria Beckham (aka Posh Spice) in the mix? I know picking a single Spice Girl as best dressed is controversial because everyone has their favourite Spice Girl. But when it comes down to it, Melanie C. was a total standout amongst the other ladies and yet stayed true to her Sporty Spice style in this white jumpsuit. The outfit has a killer silhouette, is embellished with a sparkly rhinestone belt, has slits in the side to show off some skin, and is accessorized with silver high-heeled sneakers that any serious sneaker-lover would die for.
Takeaway: While the silhouette might be a little much for everyday, try rocking a flare jean and pant to change things up. The skinny leg has become the standard silhouette for pants and jeans but going with a flare or a wide-leg trouser will make you look fashion forward (major upcoming trend!) and will flatter most body types.
Silver goes to: Mel B/Scary Spice gets points for wearing a risqué glittery beaded catsuit by Zuhair Murad. Bronze to Emma/Baby Spice for wearing a modern architectural neon pink Maggie Cook dress. A good job but I expected more from Posh in her black Giles Deacon mullet gown and Geri/Ginger Spice in her strapless red mini and ruffled Union Jack by Suzanne Neville.
Robert Pattinson

What he’s wearing: The English actor wore a steel blue Gucci suit to the premiere of his new movie Cosmopolis in New York City.
Why we love it: Despite all the personal drama going on his life right now, Pattinson had us feeling blue in a good way. The varying shades of blue keeps this look cool and sophisticated. Although it’s a small detail, the textured black tie gives it that something extra. BTW sometimes suits tend to look the same so it’s actually all in the details and cut. The leather lace-ups keep things polished. R-Patz is also giving One Direction’s Zayn a run for his money with that loose and casual bouffant of his.
Takeaway: Monochromatic outfits (those in varying shades of one colour) can be tricky but quite remarkable if pulled off correctly. Try staying within a shade range so that the colour transitions from one shade to the next, without jumping from one extreme to another. Also note that two-button jackets are flattering for most-guys and are on-trend.

The Wanted play electric dog collar game #ouch

If there’s one “boy band” out there today that doesn’t care what they say, when they say it and are totally unleashed, it’s The Wanted. During an interview in New Zealand, the lads played a trivia game where Nathan and Jay had to wear an electric dog collar around their neck. (Okay seriously, how did they get away with this?) At least the guys were great sports and the whole thing was hilarious to watch. [jayssword]

The lace used in today’s dresses looks so delicate that you won’t end up channeling a paper doily. In fact, it’s a material that’s both timeless and chic. The look isn’t reserved for special occasions like baby showers, weddings or graduations either — Kate Middleton has inspired us to adopt lace in our everyday wardrobe. In the photo above, Jessica Biel looks effortlessly pretty and feminine in this monochromatic ensemble. Now you can too!

It’s pretty safe to say that Rita Ora doesn’t need the most expensive item in the store to complete her look. She insists it doesn’t matter where it’s from, as long as it looks good! Rita sat down with @Jordans_life to describe her own sense of style in three words and dish on how she can tell a lot about a person by the way they dress. She also shares her love for the city of Toronto (because duh).

Demi Lovato

What she’s wearing: Lovato was photographed wearing a lace white dress and a spike-studded denim jacket on her way to tape an episode of X-Factor US.
Why we love it: If this outfit is any indication of what type of X-Factor judge Lovato will be, expect the former Disney star to be tough but kind. The small lace details makes this LWD (little white dress) a standout as it draws inspiration from the current lace-crochet trend. Lovato counterbalances the soft sweet dress with with a spiked denim jacket, which will surely scare off her fellow judge Simon Cowell. To style the look, Lovato draws inspiration from retro icon Rosie the Riveter, with her red-polka dot headband and updo while modernizing the look with round white sunglasses.
Dianna Agron

What she’s wearing: The Glee star wore a vibrant multi-coloured striped Prada dress, paired with Capri sandals and Miu Miu sunglasses at the 2012 Giffoni Film Festival.
Why we love it: The bright colours and the quirky geometric patterns makes this classic babydoll dress an eye-turner. The thick red sunglasses and chunky red sandals complete this look, perfect for a fun day in beautiful Giffoni Valle Piana, Italy.
Kate Middleton

What she’s wearing: While awaiting the Olympic Torch’s arrival to Buckingham Palace, the Duchess of Cambridge wears an Adidas Official Team GB white polo, cobalt blue jeans from Zara, and navy Corkswoon wedges by Stuart Weitzman.
Why we love it: Usually the words ‘casual’ and ‘royalty’ don’t go together, but Kate proves she can pull off any look with royal ease. Coloured denim has been a trend for a while now, but seeing the future Queen of England rocking a pair of electric blue jeans shows that this trend is here to stay. Perhaps she can convince her husband Prince Will to give coloured denim a try too. The crisp white polo keeps this look simple but most importantly shows her support for Team Great Britain. Navy wedges keep everything in the Team GB colour scheme and also match her sapphire engagement ring. (Don’t pretend you didn’t see it, that thing is massive!).

Who: Jessica Alba channels a few key summer trends as she runs daytime errands. We love that she kept her look casual with denim but dressed it up by opting for a striking fuchsia colour and heels. She balanced the daring colour by untucking and rolling up the sleeves of her patterned, collared blouse.

Taylor Swift

When it came to last night’s Teen Choice Awards, there were no glaring sartorial errors. If I had one complaint it’s that some of the styles were a little safe and boring. We saw tons of classic silhouettes and brights colours walking down the pink carpet.
Taylor Swift (above) was the big winner of the night, snatching her 20th trophy, which is the most won by a female artist EVER. Last night she won five awards: choice female artist, female country artist, single by a female artist for “Eyes Open,” country song for “Sparks Fly” and choice movie voice for “Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax.” WOA. She wins as one of my favourite stylistas of the night, opting for a white dress by Maria Lucia Hohan. The back was beautifully cut and I love the sheer straps.

TREND: Paint-Splatter Nails
I’ve somehow developed this nail polish addiction over the summer and been looking for ways to use as many colours as I can. Paint splatter nails are a great way to channel inner kindergartener and at the same time, get all Jackson Pollock artsy.
They’re easy enough to do but just a little messy. Putting tape on the skin around your fingers should do the trick. Next, start with a nice solid base-coat, white is best. Then pour a little bit of nail polish onto a disposable plate. Go back to your kindergarten days by taking a straw, dipping one end in, and blow out through the other end so the paint splatters all over your nails. Use as many colours as you like for a completely unique look.

TREND: Hair braid crowns
Keep your hair looking neat, polished, and, most importantly, up during a hot heat wave with a hair braided crown. It’s a neat alternative to the ponytail and high bun. Instead of the everyday three-strand braid, try a fishtail. If it’s a little too neat for your liking, try tousling the braid a bit to add some texture to your hair.
INSPIRATION: Elle Fanning
WTF: Jeremy Scott for Adidas Fall 2012/2013

Jeremy Scott is a weirdo. I feel like every collection he does is some form of modern art, but with clothes. I never really understand it, but apparently it’s inspiring and very avant-garde. I especially don’t understand his latest interpretation his latest collection for Adidas, especially his “new interpretation on the teddy bears.” It seems more like inspired by Lady Gaga’s kermit dress to me, and she’s probably the only person in the world who would wear these special pataloons. Otherwise, I think teddy bear pants are best left to the display cases.
Remember CollegeHumor’s old jeggings gang that upset their private school teacher Mr. Stevens with their skin-tight pants? Well they’re back. Not with jeggings because that’s way old school for them but with a variety of unexplainable styles, some of which I actually wear.
The list of offending styles includes pre-torn jeans, acid wash tank tops, shit-covered jackets (gross) and salsa-stained skirts. All the students are going for that casual “I don’t care” look. In fact, one even goes one step forward with a brand name cardboard sign that says he’s hungry and homeless.

Who: Kristen Stewart at Comic Con
Why we love it: Kristen exudes coolness with her wind-swept waves, casual T-shirt and stretch skirt. She epitomizes street style by completing her look with strategically undone high tops. Don’t be afraid to mix patterns and add vibrant pops of colour to this look. Stack your arms with bangles and you are ready for any summer festival.
