Fall is all about accessorizing. And Nikki Reed’s look at the Axe event in LA proves just that. She may have opted out of wearing a dress, but she still kept things girly in her semi-sheer white top that was half tucked into her skinnies! The bright accessories added a nice pop to the simple outfit. Talk about not-too-casual-not-too-dressy, right?
We know you want the look too! Here’s how you can replicate it:

Hollywood’s leading ladies and up-and coming starlets descended upon Elle’s Women in Hollywood celebration to celebrate females in the industry. The event even brought out Robert Pattinson (who was there to support his Bel Ami costar Uma Thurman, but he didn’t walk the ‘white’ carpet since this event was all about the ladies.
Anna Kendrick
What she’s wearing: The Pitch Perfect star wore a black with golden embroidery Badgley Mischka Resort 2013 dress to Elle’s Women in Hollwood event.
Why we love it: For a black pencil cocktail dress this look has a lot going for it. The dress is working three trends: 1) geometric cut out bustier tops 2) brocade embroidery and 3) shear details (in this dress the sheer fabric is in the midriff which provides a cool belt effect). However the trends don’t overpower one another and work perfectly together because they are quite subtle.
Takeaway: Too many trends on one dress or outfit might seem like a good idea but you’ll regret it instantly in a couple of years because being too on-trend dates your photos really fast. So instead of potential embarrassing Facebook photos in a couple years time, try incorporating multiple trends in a single look by doing so in very small amounts.
Emma Stone
What she’s wearing: Stone chose a bubblegum pink Valentino Resort 2013 dress for the Elle’s Women in Hollywood event.
Why we love it: For a pretty modest number (I guess modest by today’s standards anyways) you can’t help but smile at this dress and take notice of Stone. The bright pink number takes this simple look and turns it into quite a head turner as it pops out on the white carpet. Also the sheer sleeves adds some much needed skin and makes the dress more youthful, while the white statement collar and cuffs adds some much needed contrast to the overwhelming pink. She also balances the pink out with a black clutch and a pop of print in those houndstooth pumps.
Takeaway: Bright and bold colours are a great way to put a spin on conservative and traditional clothing. If this look was in black or a more sombre colour, all the fun would be taken out of it and Stone might end up looking like Wednesday Addams. (Sidenote: I love Wednesday Addams, specifically Christina Ricci’s portrayal, but best save the Addams Family look for Halloween and off the red carpet.)
Cate Blanchett
What she’s wearing: The Australian actress stepped out in a studded print photo Proenza Schouler Spring/Summer 2013 dress at the Elle’s Women in Hollywood event.
Why we love it: If you haven’t discovered the amazing-ness of Cate Blanchett and her A+ red carpet track record, then I hope you do some research on some of the looks she wears since she is one of the gold standards for Hollywood high fashion. If you never considered fashion to be art before then hopefully this dress changes your mind since it actually has art printed on the dress. Photo prints on clothing is an upcoming trend and this dress takes it to the next level by abstracting the print with blue colour studs and grommet detailing (it’s a cool take on neo-impressionist art).
Takeaway: Photo printed clothing can be a fun way to personalize your wardrobe since it’s totally possible to create your own clothes with the number of custom silkscreen businesses online (and perhaps your hometown) that you can use. A cool way to get into photography and fashion design. The more abstract a photo the more fashionable it is since you’d probably want to stay away from producing anything like this (save that for Mother’s and Father’s Day).
The Jonas Brothers
Well, forget about shopping. With an invention that lets you spray your body with a chemical that will end up clothing you, this means you might never have to decide what to wear EVER again.
But as cool as this is, I’m concerned that the shirt will randomly dissolve or disintegrate while you’re out in public. So to avoid a horrifically embarrassing accident, it probably would be best to just spend two seconds of your day putting on some actual clothes.

Elle Fanning
What she’s wearing: The younger Fanning sister opted for a vintage 1930s chiffon print maxi dress to the premiere of her new film ‘Ginger & Rosa’ at the New York Film Festival.
Why we love it: For such a young actress, Fanning is proving her fashion chops with this look. A mix of floral and polka dots would usually make for a weird combination but it works in this easy and breezy chiffon number. Plus the sheerness in the sleeves makes this dress less matronly. Plus Fanning beautifully accents and modernizes this look with gold metallic Marni wedges.
Takeaway: Go vintage! You’ll be surprised at what you can find in your local vintage or second hand store (heck maybe you’ll find some goodies tucked away in your attic!). It may be a mission to find that one-of-a-kind amazing piece but it’ll be worth the effort when you do. Plus going against the grain of wearing the latest designer duds is always on-trend!
Cher Lloyd
What she’s wearing: The U.K. popstar was snapped leaving ‘The Today Show’ in NYC wearing Cheap Monday’s ombré Second Skin Faded Black jeans, a printed top, and a green jacket.
Why we love it: Ombré has been a popular design technique for a while now. You probably have seen it done in dresses, tops, and even hair. And the fading technique works just as well in jeans too! Lloyd tops it off with a sweet bow print top and an (asparagus?) green jacket (an on-trend colour for fall).
Takeaway: What helps makes this ombré look work is that Lloyd continues the fading effect by wearing darker colours on top and lighter colours on the bottom (with her pale pink converse sneakers). You don’t have to stick with just the colours within the fade, you can still add pops of colour as proven in this look.
Taylor Swift
What she’s wearing: T-Swift was spotted leaving The Hospital Club in London wearing a mustard cardigan, a French Connection oxblood top, and polka dotted jeans from AG Adriano Goldschmied.
Why we love it: As I mentioned last week, Swift has been rocking some major vintage-inspired looks recently and this is no exception. Mustard yellow has become a staple for fall, and she pairs it with current on-trend colour oxblood. Her sweater also includes a cool printed statement collar as well, which is highlighted by her pearl necklace. Added to this are her polka-dot jeans which draw you eyes down to her fun Charlotte Olympia ‘Kitty’ flats. Overall Swift looks like a cool cat from the beatnick era. Oh and don’t forget the Mark Cross satchel bag and Ray-bans that complete the look too!
Takeaway: Coloured denim is everywhere but you can standout by trying some printed denim like Swift’s polka-dots ones or even Cher Lloyd’s ombré pair.

One look at these reverse high heels and you’ll probably be completely repelled. They look like the most uncomfortable, health hazardous, unflattering high heels in existence. But that’s the whole point. The heels, designed by Leanie van der Vyver are called Scary Beautiful, and are supposed to challenge current body ideals by “…inflicting an unexpected new beauty standard.”

Fashion Week isn’t only about designers and their mega-fabulous runway shows. The pool of photographers waiting for your arrival gives you all the more reason to be more adventurous with your style.
Despite the dreary weather in Paris this past week, fashion-forward editors, socialites and the like were anything but. Donned in their best fall gear — from tweed and leather to stripes and peplum skirts — these fashionistas really know how to embrace trends in a unique way.
1. Oh-so-cocoa
“Wear a coat as a dress,” says Anna Dello Russo in her Fashion Shower video for H&M. Now we understand why that’s one of her top ten fashion rules. This coat is stylin n’ profilin’. And those golden shades top off this plain-Jane look beautifully.
2. Stripes lovin’
Striped pants were a hit this past summer and now the trend is easing its way into fall. It’s a smart way to enhance a simple look such as this one — a plain grey top and leather jacket.
3. Pretty in peplum
Here’s another summer trend that’s in full swing this fall season! And why wouldn’t it be? Peplum skirts are the essence of femininity. The best part about this look is the fact that she paired it with a comfy sweater. It’s unexpected but she’s totally rocking it!

Red will never go out of style. It’s a colour that remains classic, regardless of the season. Taylor Swift rocked a red-inspired look in Paris while filming her “Begin Again” music video, off her upcoming album, aptly called Red .
Like Taylor, this look is simple yet stylish. You can rarely go wrong with bold red pants, regardless of what you pair them with. However, be careful with secondary colours because they don’t always complement red. Unless of course you’re colour-blocking — then by all means, knock yourself out.
Here’s how you can get this look for less:
Pattern-knit jumper, H&M, $40
Cuffed high-waisted trousers, Forever 21, $28

Blake Lively
What she’s wearing: The new Mrs. Ryan Reynolds was spotted on the set of Gossip Girl wearing a brown military W118 by Walter Baker trench coat and a burgundy and teal leopard print Theodora and Callum infinite scarf. (Not pictured are her sweatpants and Uggs.)
Why we love it: The best thing about fall are the jackets and this is one killer jacket! Military-inspired coats and tops are on-trend but this trench catches our eye for its cool crocodile skin embossing — a cool added detail to set it apart from other trench coats. Lively adds a pop of colour and print with her infinite scarf, a must-have accessory for the fall season.
Takeaway: There will be days when you’re schlepping around in your sweats but need to leave the house for quick minute and will need a quick fashion fix. Trench coats or other long jackets are perfect quick fixes to cover up outfits you would otherwise be embarrassed to be seen in out in public, like your PJs. Here Lively is most likely shooting a scene from the waist up, so you wouldn’t have seen her rocking sweats and Uggs since they’ll be out of the camera frame.
Taylor Swift
What she’s wearing: T-Swift was red hot on the red carpet with a red lace French Connection dress at the 2012 IHeartRadio Music Festival.
Why we love it: Lace details have been on trend for a while but the fire engine red colour takes this lace from sweet to sexy. While sheer at the sleeves and the yoke, this dress keeps it covered up and slightly conservative with the black lining. Recently Swift has been donning some retro-inspired looks and this look is pretty ’60s — not a surprise since she’s dating a Kennedy.
Takeaway: Wearing lace in a bright and bold colour modernizes the usually soft and sweet textile, and this bold red colour does just that. Notice how Swift wasn’t afraid to match her dress with a bold red lip either. Usually matching your lipstick to your dress is a no-no, but the red lip is not only classic but also makes a bold statement.
Kristen Stewart
What she’s wearing: No doubt the Twilight star wore head-to-toe Balenciaga to the Balenciaga 2013 Spring Fashion Show during Paris Fashion Week. The yellow biker jacket, the floral pants, and the leather boots are all Balenciaga! Considering she’s the face of their fragrance ‘Florabotanica,’ it’s no surprise.
Why we love it: This look is cool and edgy while being fashion forward. Stewart pops in the bright yellow biker jacket, which has a cool quilted detail on the sleeves (expect the quilted detail to be a major trend), which makes this jacket look like no other. She balances out the bright yellow with a black tee, but contrasts the colour blocking off the top with a black and white floral printed skinny pant. And then she completes the chic biker look with leather boots. Also she’s getting good mileage out of her black top and necklace, a good sign for any item in one’s wardrobe.
Takeaway: This look is a lesson in balance and contrast. The look manages to successfully balance a bold colour with neutral colours, and a print with a solid. If you attempt this look, stick within three colours: two neutral colours plus a bold colour, since black and white looks can sometimes seem blah, add a pop of colour to spice it up.

Lady Gaga’s body has been under much media scrutiny after photos were published of her looking slightly larger.
But despite the negative attention she’s been getting, a specific body part of hers is now apparently inspiring a new handbag line by Thierry Mugler.
Speaking to Women’s Wear Daily, creative director Nichola Formichetti of Mugler says that his new line of clutches and handbags was inspired by Gaga’s butt.
“She doesn’t know yet,” he says. “It has a little bit of punk rock feeling but it’s still quite chic.”
This of course comes as no surprise. Formichetti and Gaga have worked together in the past, collaborating on the crazy costumes Gaga wears to perform.
Having revealed her past struggles by posting photos of herself in lingerie this week, this new line could possibly be part of a very positive movement of embracing one’s body.
However, I’m not entirely sure what a handbag would look like if it was inspired by someone’s butt.

Confession: Sometimes I pay more attention to other girls’ outfits than to what my professor is saying. What can I say? I’m obsessed with fashion and clothes. If you’re like me, then you also love to rock a cute outfit for class, with the exception of those early 8 am-ers when yoga pants are a must.
This fall, don’t be surprised when you see red jeans, leather jackets and lots and lots of studs – my new favorite trend of the season.
Here are five key pieces you can rock this semester:
Off-the-shoulder sweater, American Eagle, $49
This fall, your first campus essential is a simple and comfortable knit top. Sweaters are warm and cozy, not to mention sexy/cute if they fall off the shoulders. This American Eagle sweater comes in oatmeal, light pink and charcoal. You can wear it alone or with a collared shirt underneath. Since the look is so simple feel free to add a few long necklaces.
Studded smoking slippers, Spring, $45
Comfy but stylish shoes for long walks to class are a must. These studded flats come in black and navy, and will go with any outfit, whether you’re rocking jeans or a cute dress. The studded details give the shoes a fun and spunky edge.

I’m totally obsessed with One Direction too but I draw the line at wearing the band’s logo on my feet. These One Direction UGG boots are part of a new collection of 1D surf wear. The clothing line will also include flip-flops and shorts.
If your fangirl behaviour supersedes most others and you HAVE to have these boots for winter, they’re available at Between the Flags, a retailer in Australia. If you do buy them maybe you want to keep them on a shelf — a lot of fans might find them too precious to ruin!

Pack away the sandals and take out the boots

Saturday marked the first day of fall. Now I’m kind of depressed because I can no longer wear my flats without my feet freezing. Get yourself a pair of cute moccasin boots before the snow starts to fall. Then we can move onto Uggs… but not quite yet. [inspiration-fashion]
Full House reunion

I’ve seen every episode of Full House..about ten times each. It’s hard to believe it’s already been 25 years since the first episode aired. The cast got together on the weekend and even tweeted out some adorbz pics/videos. Ugh, that takes me back!! [a-v-a-n]
Wait..where was Michelle Tanner?

The Olsen twins better have a good excuse for NOT showing up. [kidsinthe90s]
Arm candy for days

If there’s one thing I’ve become obsessed with, it’s bracelets. You can find a whole bunch of DIY designs online that are super easy to make. Once you get the hang out it, you can start selling them to your friends and family. Who doesn’t like a little bit of income doing something they love? [toodles2ubitches]
A little piece of advice

Not only are fraternal twins Megan and Liz amazing singers, they give out great advice. If anyone’s looking for a couple of role models, these are the girls for you. [thirteen-fearless]

Sarah Hyland
What she’s wearing: The Modern Family actress showed up to the 6th Annual Power of Youth Event in Los Angeles, California in a floral Zimmermann dress.
Why we love it: The draping on the bottom half takes this floral dress to the next level since it adds a contrasting texture to the look. The draping technique continues to the back of the dress making for a pleasant surprise when Hyland turns around — it goes from sweet floral dress to a total knockout stunner! She paired it with Brian Atwood shoes in a cobalt colour and a matching Kotur clutch that both bring out the blues in the dress.
Takeaway: Pick a floral dress with interesting design elements instead of just basing your choice on the print itself. If you took away the print from this dress and remade it into a solid fabric, the dress would still be hot.
Kate Middleton
What she’s wearing: The Duchess of Cambridge arrived in the Solomon Islands in a bright geometric Jonathan Saunders dress during her royal tour of Southeast Asia.
Why we love it: If only everybody looked like this while getting off a plane! Then again, there’s usually not a red carpet waiting for you on the tarmac when you get off. We’re suckers for bold geometric prints and this dress has that in spades! Plus it’s in a unique colour combination of aqua, forest-green, and white, which makes it stand out and makes it fun. She accents the look with cream accessories: the heels, the clutch and hat (the Brits sure do love a good hat!).
Takeaway: When wearing bold prints, accessorize with neutral items to minimize the in-your-face quality of the bold print. The neutral accessories will really let the print stand out.

And now we intend to have a very serious face-off between Lady Gaga and Avril Lavigne’s (slightly shocking) new hairstyles.
In one corner we have Lady Gaga, who shaved the back of her head in honour of photographer Terry Richardson’s late mother. “I did it for u Terry,” she wrote on Twitter. “I’m sorry about ure mommy….” Unfortunately, Richardson’s mom passed away yesterday (Sept. 11). We love that Gaga’s hairstyle is a tribute to one of her friends. However, considering she wears so many colourful and cray wigs, we’re guessing this look will only come out once in a while.
Meanwhile, Avril found a way to make her Skrillex-esque undercut more unique, by adding in streaks of pink and green. Yikes! A lot of people are adding the self-dye job to her list of questionable decisions of late, which also includes marrying Nickelback singer Chad Kroeger (jk, jk).
“Tonight I got a little wild with my hair dye in my hotel room,” Avril said to Us Weekly at her runway show in NYC. “I just got dye happy and dyed my whole hair blond and then went crazy with these colors and studs.”
What do you think of the new looks?

Back to School means varsity jackets. Taylor Swift rocked this transitional look by pairing short-shorts with the fall staple. Oxfords will reign again this season as the footwear of choice.

Shorts, Forever 21, $22

I hate to say it, but last night was one of the most boring red carpets I’ve seen in a while. I always look forward to the VMAs because the younger generation of celebs either go all out in unconventional styles (it’s where Lady Gaga wore her smelly meat dress) or theyat leastkeep it fun and simple. It’s a lot more down to Earth than the more snobby arenas.
Last night we saw a lot of white and black gowns and while everyone looked okay, nobody really stood out in that “ZOMG I can’t believe she wore that” or “get my pocketbook Jinx I’m buying that dress now” sort of way. Nicki Minaj (above) wore a lace cat suit with sequin detailing that was way out there in a WTF-way, but other than that it was pretty tame.
Emma Watson
Emma Watson picked up a lot of slack for her contrasting Peter Pilotto orange top and graphic skirt, however, it was one of my fave looks of the night. She looked youthful and fun, especially next to all the boring black and white most of the other celebs wore on the carpet. While some people claimed she looked half her age, you have to remember, she’s only 22!! She can still go there…
Taylor Swift

I’m absolutely in love with Taylor Swift’s white J. Mendel silk crepe suit . Menswear-inspired looks are right on trend but she mixed it up by adding a bold red lip. While I would have loved to see her in something more youthful, the well-cut suit is very chic and a Diane Keaton-way.

What she’s wearing: T-Swift was spotted in NYC in mustard short shorts, a yellow and navy letterman jacket, wayfarer sunglasses, and her guitar.
Why we love it: If the singer wasn’t 22 you would have thought she was heading back to high school in this look. Even if she was going to hit the books, she’d be looking cute doing so. The mustard yellow is a hot fall colour, but the short shorts and the sunglasses still scream summer! Also you can’t go wrong with a guitar, one of the coolest accessories one could possibly have. Just make sure you know how to play it.
Takeaway: The letterman jacket is a hot item for guys — so ladies don’t be afraid to shop in the men’s section and find one for yourself. (Really you should always take a stroll in the men’s section to snag some unique items.) Who needs a boyfriend to lend you theirs when you can be an independent women and pay for one your own? Can I get an amen!
Carly Rae Jepsen
What she’s wearing: The Canadian pop singer was snapped in colourful printed pants and a white blouse on her way to an interview in London, England.
Why we love it: Abstract graphic prints have been a huge trend for the past year, but we hardly see them in pant form. Jepsen‘s pants make a bold statement and are a nice change from jeans and coloured denim/pants we usually see. Her loose, white blouse provides contrast to the bold pants and contrasts the slim cut of the pants.
Takeaway: Pair printed pants with a neutral/solid top to add balance. If printed pants aren’t available, printed leggings are another option to consider.

Man, we sure hope so. I mean if the Kardashians and JWOWW can easily transition to the world of fashion, why can’t Karl Lagerfeld’s cat?
It seems as though his fluffy, white feline known as Choupette, might have a forthcoming clothing line with online retailer Net-a-Porter.
Two promos were released this week, including a behind the scenes look at Choupette’s day, from her POV. The cat directs a photoshoot, offering sartorial advice on heel selection and schmoozing the model until he ultimately finds his way to Karl, who gives him a big old smooch.
The video was actually created to celebrate the new Karl for Karl Lagerfeld collection available online, but it does raise the question: When will Choupette make her design debut? The socialite already has quite a following, sharing her daily musings on Twitter. Read more…

Carly Rae Jepsen
What she’s wearing: The Canadian popstar performed on The Today Show wearing a coral Kelly Wearstler dress paired with printed Alice + Olivia “Juliet” wedges, an ASOS necklace, and a white studded belt.
Why we love it: Coral is on trend as the summer colour for lips, so Jepsen took it a step further by wearing it in a bright summer dress. The watercolour-type pattern creates a cool graphic design and is accented well with her silver accessories.
Takeaway: Monochromatic looks are on trend but make sure to use a different colour for your accessories so things aren’t too matchy matchy.
The Wanted

What they’re wearing: The UK boy band performed at the John F. Kennedy airport in NYC for the JetBlue Live From T5 Concert series, wearing graphic tees, jeans, a sport coat, chambray, and more.
Why we love it: Well it’s more that we like four out of five of the looks and excluding Jay would just seem too cruel. Siva, in the grey sport coat, looks the most put-together with his slightly monochromatic look. His T-shirt has a hint of navy, which gives a subtle pop of colour. Tom and Nathan rock the cool graphic tees, but I give the edge to Nathan since his mustached monocle print is more fun and his khakis set him apart from the rest of the group. Max wears a light blue short-sleeve button-down in chambray (a light woven fabric resembling denim) — a fabric that has made a major comeback. And Jay, well he’s wearing a novelty tee that can be either seen as vulgar or hilarious, nothing fashionable about it. However since Jay is known for his sense of humor he can get away with it, but he does bring down the group’s fashion average. Sorry!
Takeway: When choosing graphic tees try choosing a graphic that suits your personality because they’ll send a message to others about you. Try staying away from novelty tees because they may seem funny at first sight but the joke usually is over by the second glance, then you’ll be the joke instead of your shirt.
