Do: Faux fur
Krystin Lee, 26 - Furrrrrrr is a must-have this winter season! It’s the perfect way to transform a simple outfit into “high class” without spending too much! The brown really compliments this full-on navy blue attire.
Do: Cable Knit Sweater
Christina C. – Overgrown sweaters paired with a lumberjack shirt is definitely the way to go. The colours just go so well together and the gold jewelry really add the fancy element to this laid back outfit.
Do: Corduroy pants
Samantha Pereira – The fur vest and corduroy pants really compliment each other; two unique textures that offer a little extra something to any look. And the pairing with the suede wedges is excellent!
Do: Coon hat
Gabrielle Miau - All I have to say about this look is the coon hat. Have you ever seen someone look more Canadian? And the leopard print wedge boots are perfection!

Guess who got all dolled up to celebrate Thanksgiving with her family last week? Gwen Stefani and husband Gavin Rossdale took their boys to Gwen’s parents house in Los Angeles for Thanksgiving dinner. Gwen’s nerd-chic attire is a must-do this season. The plaid shorts and sweater combo is very appropriate for the occasion; dressy but not over the top!

If you’re anything like me, you’re a complete weirdo and base your wardrobe off of people who don’t exist. In the past, I’ve looked to fictional characters like Luna Lovegood from the Harry Potter series and Angela Chase from My So-Called Life for wardrobe inspiration. I’ve always felt like we have some sort of connection to the fictional characters we cherish most. One way to emulate them is through our wardrobes, as though they’re a part of our everyday lives and inspiration. No matter what books you read, what television shows you watch, or movies you love — there’s always that one character who wows you with their style.
Now that I’m in university, I try not to dress like an eccentric witch with blonde, curly locks. However there’s no reason to take the fun out of a wardrobe just because you’re all grown up. Here are a few very lovely fictional characters who would be fantastic muses for your college wardrobe.
1. Denise Huxtable from The Cosby Show
There’s a whole part of society dedicated to Denise Huxtable appreciation. Though The Cosby Show was about a sweet and funny family, Denise’s wardrobe was always something to admire.
Why it would work for college: There’s a tiny part in all of us that secretly wishes to impress our friends with our wardrobes. I truly feel like Denise’s style would do that. Her style is casual while also making bold statements with reds and printed headbands.
2. Emily Fields from Pretty Little Liars
When they’re not trying to figure out who A is, the characters of Pretty Little Liars have always shown off their unique sense of style. Each character has their own fashion flare, but Emily in particular is bothsporty and edgy at the same time.
Why it would work for college: Emily is known for her athleticism, especially in swimming. While Aria might wear more cutting edge pieces, Emily’s wardrobe is perfect for varsity athletes constantly balancing their academic and athletic roles.
3. John Bender from The Breakfast Club
John Bender might not seem like boyfriend material, but he does have potential “boyfriend” style. It’s kind of hard not to feel like a rebel while wearing a worn-out denim jacket, and paired with the “I don’t care” attitude of this Brat Pack member, you’ll look like a walking teen icon from the 80s.
Why it would work for college: The over-sized jacket will keep you warm during those long commutes to school. It’s also suitable for weekend detentions (although I’ve never heard of that in college.) If that happens, then you’re a rebel for sure.
4. Cher Horowitz from Clueless
Once you admit to yourself that Clueless is like, the best movie/television show of all time, you’ll start to realize that the best part of it is the fashion. Literally every single character in the film, especially Dionne and Cher, has the grooviest style. Maybe I’m totally buggin’ to think that anyone else could pull of their preppy, plaid-filled wardrobe. As if!
Why it would work for college: Although Cher is in high school, her wardrobe was made for a college student. Cher somehow manages to look ready for a job interview (or in her case, a driving test) all the time, which is good for a college student embarking on pursuits in the real world.
5. Hilary Banks from Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
Jay-Z and Beyoncé
What they’re wearing: Jay-Z and Beyoncé were spotted courtside at the New York Knicks at Brooklyn Nets game. Hova repping the Nets in a grey snapback and grey crewneck sweatshirt, camp pants, and Air Jordan sneakers. Queen Bey wore a Stella McCartney embroidered top, black leather leggings, with blue suede shoes.
Why we love it: Let’s take a second to come to terms with the fact that neither one of us are Jay-Z or Beyoncé.
OK now that we’ve moved on let’s just appreciate the couple’s courtside style. Jay-Z is on trend in his camo pants and subtly yet stylishly shows support to the Brooklyn Nets in his sweater and cap. Beyoncé subtly pops with colours with the multicoloured monogrammed appliqués on her top and her blue pumps. The couple both sport chunky chain necklaces.
Takeaway: Showing off logos is a lazy way to try to be stylish, so do it subtly so as to not take all the attention away from your outfit. Yeah you might have paid tons of money for that designer item, but you don’t have to be a showoff about it. Just because you dropped a tons of bill on your outfit doesn’t mean you still can’t look cheap.
Lily Collins
What she’s wearing: The lead in the upcoming The Mortal Instrument series stepped out in a black Mulberry column dress at the 2012 British Fashion Awards.
Why we love it: Collins vamps it up this dark and moody look. The column dress elongates the petite actress and has subtle striped details adding a cool design detail to the gown. Collins is on trend with her dark lipstick and adds a cool accessory with her gold chain earring.
Takeaway: Dark lips are on trend but it can be tricky to find the right colour for you. Stay away from black unless you’re going for that emo look, opt for a dark colour that’s near black so as to still have that hint of colour.

One Direction’s new line of paint splattered jumpsuits were made by setting the guys loose on each other so they could graffiti each other’s butts with their own handprints. The OnePiece jumpsuits, which are retailed for a steep $160 or so to $290, are essentially cozy-looking onesies for adults.
In this behind the scenes look, posted by OnePieceUK, watch Harry get chased by a girl threatening to splatter him with paint. Inside, the guys get frisky too, slapping each other’s behinds all so your hiney could have the handprint of Zayn Malik on it.
Would you wear one?

Let’s face it. Comb overs are NEVER attractive. But lo and behold, this man has done the IMPOSSIBLE.
Showing us his time-consuming regime of lots of hairspray, combing and hair-drying, what this man creates is seriously “A F*CKING WORK OF ART.” Perhaps Donald Trump should take a lesson or two from this dude.
The holiday season is just around the corner so why not get your festive spirit on by adding some velvet into your winter wardrobe? Miley Cyrus already has. This Disney graduate was seen out and about earlier this week in New York City donning a velvet skirt paired with what looks to be a faux fur sweater and biker boots. I love the combination of the two textures! Perfect way to add hard edge into your look.

Pink
What she’ wearing: Pink wore a stunning bronze/taupe sleeveless leather and chiffon Catherine Deane gown at the American Music Awards.
Why we love it: What a great night for Pink, not only did she score major points with the dress, but her performance of “Try” wins all the awards! (Now would be a perfect time to go watch her performance, just make sure to come back to this page when you’re done.) The leather fabric adds some shine to the bodice giving it a cool metallic effect, plus the detailed cutouts create a stunning pattern that gives this look an edge. The feminine full-length pleated chiffon skirt contrasts the edgy top and elongates Pink’s body. All-in-all a standout look from many of the red carpet styles at the AMAs.*
Takeaway: Leather fabrics can come in multiple colours so try to choose one that’s the most versatile and compatible with your wardrobe, since leather can be quite expensive.
*As you probably know the American Music Awards happened this past weekend and there was a plethora of really well dressed celebrities in attendance. So as to not make this list dominated by AMA attendees I chose to highlight only one look, but here are two of my other favs from the night: Taylor Swift and The Wanted.
Emma Stone
What she’s wearing: Stone was photographed wearing Burberry Prorsum, consisting of a belted navy peplum bustier top paired with a green sequin pencil skirt, at the 2012 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards in N.Y.C.
Why we love it: Stone looks festive in sparkles and it’s hard not to notice her in this outfit. It feels refreshing to see a sequined skirt and not a top. The two fabrics (sequin and satin) seem to compliment each other when paired together plus navy and emerald green are a colour combo not often seen on the red carpet. The black waistband provides some contrast while accentuating Stone’s waist and creating that popular peplum effect.
Takeaway: Sequins can be fun but can be hard to incorporate into your everyday wardrobe. Save sequins for nights out or special events as opposed to daywear since little girls and fairy princesses tend to enjoy sequins all day round.

Florals might be hibernating this season but animal prints are so on! British TV personality Alexa Chung incorporated three of my favourites at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in New York last week; lace, leopard print and Chanel! A Chanel bag and lace is expected at a lingerie fashion show, but when you add a print like the cheetah print, it adds a harder edge. Her plain black coat really ties this outfit together!

If you were looking for some of the best looks from this year’s MTV Europe Music Awards @Britt_Mahaney has got you covered here. The final installment of the Twilight Saga, Breaking Dawn Part 2, had its L.A. premiere on Monday and the stars of the movie made a major red carpet impact. So let us all fangirl together and see some of the best looks from that night– and don’t worry non-Twilight fans we have some non-Twilight stars too.
Kristen Stewart
What she’s wearing: K-Stew stunned everybody in this strapless nude and sheer corseted Zuhair Murad dress at the Twilight Sage: Breaking Dawn Part 2 premiere.
Why we love it: I’ve always been a fan of Stewart’s edgy and non-cutesy style, especially in the past year or so when she has seem to come into her own. The last time she donned Zuhair Murad she made it on this list, so this is clearly a match made in heaven. However with this look, Stewart proves that she can be the sexy bombshell that most people might have written her off for. This look is all woman and has come a long way since 2008 when she wore this tri-colour Balenciaga dress at the L.A. premiere for the first Twilight movie. The nude colour was a trend on the red carpet but she took it to the next level with the mix of sheer lace and cool corset, quite the risqué look but it all works.
100000000 times more gorgeous in person. Not possible? But it is. #Kstew tmblr.co/ZjAn3yXDBlY6
— Jaymes (@jaymes805) November 13, 2012
Takeaway: While perfect for the red carpet this dress wouldn’t work in everyday life. Overall this is a very sexy look so take inspiration from the dress and try to incorporate nude colours, sheer fabrics, and lace into your outfit. You’ll be on trend for the season.
Dakota Fanning
What she’s wearing: The elder Fanning not only stepped out in teal Elie Saab Couture gown on the Twilight red carpet but she also introduced a new brunette hairdo as well.
Why we love it: I had to do a second look to realize it was Dakota, which goes to show you the power of a new hair colour! Not only do I love the new darker locks but they go perfectly well with the teal colour of her dress. The asymmetrical dress has nice draping on the side but also has stunning embellished lace detail which continues to the back of the dress to give this dress some pop of sparkle.
Dakota fanning so beautiful last night at the premiere of Breaking Dawn part 2 with her hair brunette!! yfrog.com/15v1nuj
— William Capistran (@W_Capistran) November 14, 2012
Takeaway: When you want to give your new hairstyle a bigger impact you sometimes got to pair it with the right outfit, especially in the right colour. And Fanning does just that by matching her new brunette hair with a gorgeous teal colour.

The Men of Twilight: Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, Kellan Lutz, and Jackson Rathbone
What they’re wearing: All four guys walked the red carpet looking very dapper in suits. Pattinson in emerald green woven Gucci suit, Lautner in a classic grey Z Zegna suit, Lutz in a black and midnight blue satin Roberto Cavalli suit, and Rathbone in an all navy look in Calvin Klein.
Why we love it: I’m being selfish by including the four looks onto the list, but I usually only include one male look onto the list so I don’t feel bad for having multiple actors share a spot. People tend to disregard suits as not being fashion forward, while yes suits can be classic and somewhat timeless, you can still have fun with them. Pattinson and Ratbone both look fantastic in these bold and fun colours, while Lautner goes for simple and minimal. Lutz stood out from the rest with his satin blue lapels, which reminded me of James Bond (a style icon for every male).
Takeaway: Have fun with your suits and take some fashion chances. Opt for classic like Lautner, bold colour like Pattinson, monochromatic like Rathbone, or fun with textures like Lutz.

One of my favourite moments from last night’s MTV Europe awards was when Taylor Swift thanked everyone for giving her the Best Look award because she suffers from a low self esteem so it could give her the boost she needs. I find this ironic considering many girl’s sole purpose in life is to look JUST LIKE Taylor.
Taylor — who won three of the five awards she was nominated for — also had one of my favourite looks of the night. She wore the most spirited circus-themed costume during her performance of “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” and an incredibly chic J Mendel gown as well (above).

Three words: short, blonde and shaved. These were the hair trends this year rocking the celeb world. It’s kind of hard to tell who inspired who this year with all these similar and daring hair cuts. However, what I love about these celebrity do’s is that they can sometimes have meaning and inspiration behind them.
Here are 10 awesome celebrity hair makeovers:
1. Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga is known for her outrageous makeovers, but this one has quite a bit of meaning behind it. The singer shaved a portion of her head in memory of Terry Richardson’s mom, Annie Lomax. Gaga tweeted a photo of her new hair with a special message to her friend.
2. CeCe Frey
CeCe Frey shocked “X-Factor” viewers when she debuted her new platinum blonde look. CeCe isn’t new to daring looks as she often paints leopard print spots on her face. Fierce!
3. Anne Hathaway
Bless Anne Hathaway’s soul. I fell in love with Anne Hathaway this summer because she was a total babe in The Dark Knight Rises. When I saw her with her pixie cut, courtesy of her role in the upcoming film Les Miserables, my heart was sent into flutters. She really can rock anything.
4. Miley Cyrus
Miley Cyrus sent the twitterverse into a buzz of love-hate feuding with her new do. Despite what anyone says, I think it’s awesome that Miley’s new haircut was able to give her a lot of confidence.
5. Marina and the Diamonds
Marina and the Diamonds completely transformed her entire wardrobe for her new album, Electra Heart. In her video for “Fear and Loathing,” Marina is seen chopping off her thick, black hair and opting for a cute bob. The move was daring, but her transformation totally goes with the theme of her album.
Miranda Kerr
What she’s wearing: Kerr was spotted arriving to her Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show rehearsal in NYC in a heather grey wool coat and matching sheer top, a peekaboo blue blouse, black leather short shorts, embroidered Isabel Marant Betty ankle boots, and a Givenchy Antigona bag.
Why we love it: I love how she takes her outfit to the next level by matching her heather grey coat to her heather grey top. Also any look that keeps on giving the more you look at it is A+ in my books – her blink or you might not see blue blouse and black bra are subtle details that add to this ensemble. The black leather shorts break up all the grey and add some much needed fabric variety.
Takeaway: Some people forget to realize that your jacket can really enhance your outfit underneath and vice versa. Sometimes we use jackets as a stand-alone look separate from the clothes they cover underneath and that can be a real shame if you spent so much time putting your outfit together only to cover it up with a jacket.
Carrie Underwood
What she’s wearing: This Alice + Olivia gold sequin boatneck flare dress was one of 12 dresses Underwood changed into to host the Country Music Awards.
Why we love it: Not only is that a lot of costume changes but it seems inevitable that she was would wind up on this list since the odds were ever in her favour. This number stood out from the rest due to its flared silhouette. I also like how she mixes metals (a sleek gold sequin top and silver Jerome C. Rousseau sandals) with the white cupcake tiered skirt.
Takeaway: Mixing metals can be tough but it helps when you use one metallic colour as an accent colour minimizing its effect on the overall look. It also helps to have a neutral colour to break up the metallics (and mainly because metallics and bold colours usually don’t mix).
Rita Ora
What she’s wearing: The U.K. singer stepped out in London in a sleek black leather dress, over-the-knee zip up leather boots, and an oversized trench coat with floral lining.
Why we love it: There’s no denying Ora got some funky style but lately she’s been really stepping up her game. However Ora is still keeping it edgy but with a high fashion twist. This is a lot of leather but it works for her and also because the silhouette is not overtly dominatrix but pretty conservative despite its leather fabric. Ora’s coat might seem a tad too big for her but there’s been a trend of celebrities rocking oversized coats, also wearing your coat like a cape seems pretty popular too. The coat also adds a pop of color since its lined with a floral fabric.
Takeaway: Leather has returned as an on-trend fabric. We haven’t really seen a full leather look until now but most celebrities have been rocking pieces of leather in their outfits like shorts and skirts. Leather clothing can be quite expensive, so make sure whatever leather item piece you buy is versatile enough to work with the clothes already in your closet.

It’s cold/wet out which means the majority of us are wearing super dull and dark colours — my favourite! Yes, this colour scheme can get boring after a while but there are always ways in which you can add a little spunk to a boring yet stylish look. It’s all about finding the right pieces that are unique in some way! And that’s exactly what these college fashionistas did!
Do: Red pants
Angelina Irinici, 22 — Black, beige and brown is typical for the the fall season and can get a bit boring. So why not add a little colour to your fall wardrobe? Red pants are a must have. This look consists of all the fall favourites this season. The brown combat boots toughen up her red pants and aztec print sweater.
Do: Blue accents
Caryn Ceolin, 20 — You can’t go wrong with black! It’s the perfect shade because you can add any burst of colour and get away with it. Ceolin’s blue bag and YSL ring really make statements on a gloomy day.
Do: Past the knee dresses Read more…
The best thing about Fall? Layers! Olivia Palermo was out and about in New York last week —before hurricane Sandy came to town — sporting leather trousers and an oversized sweater…the two must-haves this season! Leather is great because it enhances your “I’m super lazy today” look, depending on what top you’re wearing. Pairing these pants with an oversized sweater or a simple, white coloured blouse is the perfect way to get that look that effortless style fashionistas everywhere want to possess.

Kristen Stewart
What she’s wearing: K-Stew busted out a Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2013 romper to promote the final Twilight movie in Tokyo, Japan.
Why we love it: This look is fresh off the Paris Fashion Week and I couldn’t be more stoked that Stewart chose to wear this look. Stewart is finally coming into her own red carpet style and leaving her naysayers in the dust. The black and white checks is a cool design feature that feels refreshing due to the simplicity and large size of the pattern. Also it’s a romper which makes it all the more fun. The outfit looks very mod but still modern.
Takeaway: Designers are giving a fashion twist to plaids and checkered patterns so be on the lookout for some funkier versions of these everyday patterns. Also opting for a black and white look can be a very safe choice, so do black and white in a cool pattern that keeps the look modern.
Victoria Beckham
What she’s wearing: Posh Spice was spotted out and about in New York City in a Comme des Garçons floral print blouse and J Brand high-waist bell bottom jeans.
Why we love it: We all know that Ms. Beckham can pull off a skin-tight mini dress like no other, so it’s always nice to see her in pants, separates, and prints. Her floral blouse is in a nice brown that pops with bright reds and yellows. Also Beckham just oozes fashion that she manages to make these high-waisted bell bottom jeans high fashionable and not mom-jeany (sorry Anne Hathaway).
Takeaway: High-waisted jeans are not for everybody so if you are self-conscious about your derrière or your tummy you might want to stay away. However bell bottom or flare jeans are actually flattering to most body types so they are a safer bet when you want to change up the types of jeans you wear.

Epic music videos

Michael Jackson has one of the best Halloween-inspired music videos EVER in “Thriller.” The 13-minute video is full of zombies, werewolves, and a full moon. Need I say more? At least you’ll enjoy some great music and dance moves while watching! Oh and who could forget “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)” where they end up at a haunted house after their bus breaks down. Classics. [threatened]
Hitting up the pubs tomorrow night?

Even though the majority of Halloween parties took place this weekend, I’m sure you’ll still want to go out tomorrow night after a long day of school. Just BEWARE if you have any 8 a.m. classes the next morning, you might want to set your alarm! [daay-dreaam]
Mean Girls reference is a must

Once you hit your teen years, there’s a zero percent chance that you want your parents to go Halloween shopping with you. Technically you can throw on a pair of ears (bunny, mouse, cat, devil, etc.), a tight dress and ta-da, you’re now an animal. Best of all, it’s socially acceptable. [whatshouldbetchescallme]

TREND: Pink
Inspiration: First Lady Michelle Obama, Emma Stone, Ann Romney
You know a trend has found its roots when the wives of two presidential candidates are both wearing pink and it wasn’t even a Wednesday. AND just a day before, current it girl, Emma Stone, was wearing a bright pink dress at Elle’s Women in Hollywood party. If THAT wasn’t enough for you, when Jessica Biel got hitched to Justin Timberlake, she wore a blushing pink wedding dress.
So, how do we even wear such a bright hue? My best advice is: wear it with confidence. It only looks ridiculous if you think it does. Unfortunately, confidence is sometimes hard to come by. In order to build this confidence, treat pink like any other neon colour: start small by matching pink accessories to whatever you wear. Most importantly, pink is an exciting colour so remember to HAVE FUN!
TREND: polka dots

Inspiration: Taylor Swift on The View
Last summer, I had a bit of a shocking revelation when I was riding the bus back home after a trip to Ikea. I realized that the boxes I just bought, my skirt and my nails were covered in polka dots. Since then, I’ve been trying to cool it with the dots because, let’s face it, I’m not Zooey Deschanel.
Unfortunately, it’s been really hard to get off this kick. Between Marc Jacobs’ fragrance Dot and The Sartorialist‘s polka dot street style shots, I can’t stop myself but want more dotted pieces. So, you know what? Let me at ‘em! They’re fun, they’re flirty and most of all, they are (this week’s theme) F. U. N. Fun!
WTF: Chanel’s Hula Hoop bag

Imagination plays a huge part in fashion, and as a result, there are a number of outstanding collections that are more art pieces than ready-to-wear clothes. What kills me, though, when designers try to sell insanely bizarre objects as the world’s most practical accessory. Case in point: Chanel’s hula hoop bag. According to designer Karl Lagerfeld, it would be the perfect beach bag because you can drape everything on it. It might’ve been useful if I couldn’t picture myself tripping over it, or crying because the white fabric got all dirt stained. Not to mention, it’s just a tad ridiculous and a little too over-the-top for the beach.
