After the first actual snow fall of the season, we all need to get our sweater-swag on! Miley Cyrus is the queen of comfort and edge and combined both these elements while grabbing a cup of coffee from Starbucks in Toluca Lake, California a few days ago. She donned a pair of grey leopard print pants with an overgrown sweater tucked in to show off her vintage-looking belt. Leopard print is the perfect way to transform a simple outfit into a statement look.

*When I mean 2012, I mean since August 1st because that is when I started doing this best dressed list. So let’s look back and celebrate those stylish celebs who have turned it out and made us want to jump them and rip the clothes off their back! So I’m going to count down the winners starting with #5!
#5: Solange Knowles
Beyoncé’s lil’ sis snags the fifth spot on our list because she has proven to be one of the most fashion forward celebs out there. She doesn’t win the top spot because she has only appeared on this list once, but there have been countless times where she has barely missed out on being on the list. In all honesty I would have Solange on the list every week but that is just borderline obsessive. So you’re welcome that I have managed to control myself in not turning this list into “What Solange Knowles is wearing this week.” Also I give Ms. Knowles snaps for turning out one of the best sartorial music videos of the year for her song “Losing You” it’s amazing!
Sidenote: check out big sis Beyoncé and brother-in-law Jay-Z who made the list as a couple, what a stylish family!
#4: Kiernan Shipka
The young Mad Men actress was not on my radar until I started writing this list. Because to be honest I don’t watch ‘Mad Men’ which I know is sacrilege but I just don’t have the time to invest in such a slow-burning show. I’ll probably get into the critically acclaimed show until after it ends and will hate myself for not getting into it sooner, this is what happened to me with ‘Friday Night Lights’. Anyways Shipka has blown me away with her age-appropriate and fun fashion which is why she has landed on this list three times.
Runner-up look: Shipka goes Mod in this look and it marks her first time on this list.
#3: Taylor Swift Read more…
Blake Lively donned a red-orange leather mini Isabel Marant dress at the 12/12/12 Sandy Relief concert held in New York at Madison Square Garden last week. The studded embellishment on the tough leather is truly something we all need to incorporate into our holiday wardrobe. Sequins and glitter are a given during the holiday season but this unique combination adds edge to a simple look. I love how she paired nude accessories with this oh-so-bright colour – a colour we normally don’t see very often in the winter time.

Studded Bodycon Dress, Zara, $60
High-Heel Two-Tone Sandal, Zara, $90
Ciara
What she’s wearing: The R&B singer stepped out in a black Pamella Roland sequin long-sleeve gown at the ‘VH1 Divas’ concert in L.A.
Why we love it: Ciara is a sexy singer and she showed us why in this look. However she hardly bares any skin except for the sexy deep v-neck and the sheer panels along the side. This gown looks easy and effortless while still interesting enough to stand out on the red carpet. She keeps her accessorizing minimal with no jewellery and allows her dress to do all the sparkling.
Maybe next time Allison, Ciara is actually America’s Next Top Model!
Takeaway: Sequins and sparkles are not for everybody but choosing neutral colour sequins are more universal and a lot more accessible to those new to sequins. And as most neutral colour dresses you can get a lot more mileage out of them year round then something in a bolder colour.
Kelly Osbourne
What she’s wearing: Osbourne attended the ‘VH1 Divas’ concert in L.A. In a white Paule Ka mini dress, Charlotte Olympia zebra heels, and her signature lavender locks.
Why we love it: Osbourne stood out in white on the red carpet and she looked magnificent in this glam-retro styling. Since she opted for a Little White Dress Osbourne was able to have a lot more fun with her styling, so she opted for some funky zebra print and fur shoes and an Eddie Parker clutch with metallic accents. The LWD also helped make her lavender hair pop, which she styled in a 1950s retro bouffant.
Preach! Big is beautiful, even big hair!
Takeaway: When your hair colour is more than just ordinary why not show it off and make it the main attraction of your look. Choosing a busier outfit will detract from your hair so going more simpler will make it pop.

The holidays are one of the best times of the year to dress up and have fun with your look. While you might consider keeping things more neutral around Christmas since you’ll be seeing a lot of family, you can definitely experiment with bolder looks and shimmery eyes on New Years Eve.
This year, test out sultry red lips and neutral eye makeup on Christmas. If you’re usually modest with your look, try going glitter-happy on NYE.

Colour-blocking is a must this season and reality star Kourtney Kardashian was camera ready while shopping filming her reality show in Miami with Kim Kardashian. Kourtney stepped out into the sun in an olive green peplum skirt blocking it with a simple salmon coloured blouse. The key to colour blocking is finding accessories that are the same colour. Too many different colours can result in you looking like a clown (not cute). The black heels, bag and sunglasses are perfect for this pop-of-colour ensemble.
Want a pop-of-colour in your wardrobe? Try these pieces:
Sequined Collar Layered Shirt, Forever 21, $30
Paneled Peplum Skirt, Forever 21, $24
Emma Stone
What she’s wearing: The Revlon spokesmodel appeared at the launch for the brand’s new ‘Nearly Naked’ makeup in London wearing a silk tricolour Daniel Vosovic dress.
Why we love it: First off, the dress is from Project Runway alum Daniel Vosovic, so it’s nice to see someone succeed after a stint on reality TV (too bad it’s not the case for most of the show’s contestants). The nude colour is appropriate for the ‘Nearly Naked’ event and the grey and charcoal colour-blocking helps stop Stone from being completely washed out. The dress nicely combines an airy looseness on top with a sexy and slimming pencil skirt silhouette on the bottom. The vibe of the dress refreshingly matches the fresh-faced Stone and she adds a pop of colour in her peach point-toe Rupert Sanderson heels.
Takeaway: Nude colours are on trend this season but can be quite tricky to match the right hue of nude to your skin tone. So unlike coverup makeup don’t try to match your nude to your skin unless you want to look like a big naked blob. Opt for a nude in the same colour family as your skin tone. So if you tend to be fairer skinned try a nude with hints of pink, olive-skinned try a nude with hints of peach, a little tanner find something with hints of caramel or copper, dark skin looks great with hues with hints of chocolate brown.
Jordin Sparks
What she’s wearing: The singer stepped out in a slinky red Nicole Miller Atelier dress to KIIS FM ‘Jingle Ball’ concert in L.A.
Why we love it: Sparks is va-va-voom in the dress! The red colour of the dress is not only festive but it also pops on the red carpet. The look is simple yet bold and the ruching adds some nice textural details to the dress. Sparks is also minimal with her accessorizing since it would only detract from her dress, she contrasts her bold red look with some Jimmy Choo black peep-toe pumps.
Takeaway: During the holiday season it can be tough to find the right festive look, so when in doubt opt for holiday colours of your liking in a nice rich hue or jewel tone. Choosing to wear a rich hue or jewel tone is all a part of sharing in the decadence the holiday season brings. Holiday looks can either be cozy or luxe depending on the event.

No holiday is complete without someone wearing an ugly Christmas sweater, whether your aunt is legitimately wearing it because she thinks it’s funky or because your hipster friend Wheatgrass thinks it’s ironic. And when you really shop around, there’s an ugly holiday sweater for everyone!
Ellen premiered some of her favourite ugly Christmas sweaters on her talk show this morning and they were positively horrendous, but in the best way possible. The best thing is, they’re all REAL sweaters that you can purchase… we promise. Here are her favourites.

The Internet’s favourite Grumpy Cat, also known as Tardar Sauce, is doing a publicity tour in NYC and offered some solid reviews on current fashion trends. She stopped by Refinery29 and her deadpan expression said it all: Peplum sucks and Karl Lagerfeld’s bratty cat Choupette is even worse.
After the telling interview, Tard browsed the racks of the latest cat fashions to hit the runway and tried on her favourite look. Her grumpy expressions softened a little bit after putting on the pink collar top and A-line skirt by United Bamboo, but not much

Finding the perfect holiday outfit can be difficult, but Kendall Jenner just made it a little bit easier! Leather is a must do this winter/holiday season and that’s exactly what Kendall donned at KIIS FM’s 2012 Jingle Ball; a high-waisted leather mini. She paired it with a casual top and a statement pair of ankle boots. Leather can often be taken as “trying too hard” but this look is effortless!

Taylor Swift
What she’s wearing: Swift appeared in the land down under in this stunning white Elie Saab chiffon gown at the 2012 ARIA Awards in Sydney, Australia.
Why we love it: Just look at Swift, she looks GORGEOUS!! (I don’t caps lock a lot, so when I don you know I mean business!) I wanna hate Swift for living out the fairy tale dream and rubbing it in our peasant faces, but at the end of the day you got to give it to her for bringing her A game to everything (whether its her hit new record, her red carpet looks, or managing to snag a member from One Direction). Some might say this look is too dressy for the occasion but it’s usually always better to be overdressed than under-dressed. The dress is nice and sweet in the front, but the lace panelling on the side adds some major sex appeal.
Someone likes what they see!
Takeaway: Lace is a great way to show skin but still be covered at the same time, so if you find that some cutouts in dresses are too risqué try to cover those bare spots with a nice lace fabric. Make sure the lace works well with the rest of the fabrics on the dress so as to not make it look like a patchwork dress of random fabrics.
Isabelle Fuhrman
What she’s wearing: The Hunger Games actress stepped out in a graphic Prabal Gurung short-suit at the 2013 Miss Golden Globe Party in California.
Why we love it: Fuhrman was one of the standout stars in the first The Hunger Games film and its a shame she won’t be in any of the subsequent ones (sorry if this is too spolier-y for you). This chic three-piece silk suit has a matching printed blazer, shorts, and blouse but everything pops with solid accents and trimmings. The blazer has solid navy lapels and cuffs, the shorts have a bright red waist band, and the blouse has a lovely light blue statement collar.
She will cut you!
Takeaway: Menswear can be a tough arena to venture into but you shouldn’t worry because you can still show off your femininity even when wearing menswear inspired clothes. Take baby-steps like mixing menswear inspired cuts with feminine fabrics. Like you can buy a suit jacket but in silk, the silhouette might be menswear inspired but the fabric keeps it feminine.

Do: Faux fur
Krystin Lee, 26 - Furrrrrrr is a must-have this winter season! It’s the perfect way to transform a simple outfit into “high class” without spending too much! The brown really compliments this full-on navy blue attire.
Do: Cable Knit Sweater
Christina C. – Overgrown sweaters paired with a lumberjack shirt is definitely the way to go. The colours just go so well together and the gold jewelry really add the fancy element to this laid back outfit.
Do: Corduroy pants
Samantha Pereira – The fur vest and corduroy pants really compliment each other; two unique textures that offer a little extra something to any look. And the pairing with the suede wedges is excellent!
Do: Coon hat
Gabrielle Miau - All I have to say about this look is the coon hat. Have you ever seen someone look more Canadian? And the leopard print wedge boots are perfection!

Guess who got all dolled up to celebrate Thanksgiving with her family last week? Gwen Stefani and husband Gavin Rossdale took their boys to Gwen’s parents house in Los Angeles for Thanksgiving dinner. Gwen’s nerd-chic attire is a must-do this season. The plaid shorts and sweater combo is very appropriate for the occasion; dressy but not over the top!

Sweater, H&M, $15
Jacquard Zippered Shorts, Forever 21, $24

If you’re anything like me, you’re a complete weirdo and base your wardrobe off of people who don’t exist. In the past, I’ve looked to fictional characters like Luna Lovegood from the Harry Potter series and Angela Chase from My So-Called Life for wardrobe inspiration. I’ve always felt like we have some sort of connection to the fictional characters we cherish most. One way to emulate them is through our wardrobes, as though they’re a part of our everyday lives and inspiration. No matter what books you read, what television shows you watch, or movies you love — there’s always that one character who wows you with their style.
Now that I’m in university, I try not to dress like an eccentric witch with blonde, curly locks. However there’s no reason to take the fun out of a wardrobe just because you’re all grown up. Here are a few very lovely fictional characters who would be fantastic muses for your college wardrobe.
1. Denise Huxtable from The Cosby Show
There’s a whole part of society dedicated to Denise Huxtable appreciation. Though The Cosby Show was about a sweet and funny family, Denise’s wardrobe was always something to admire.
Why it would work for college: There’s a tiny part in all of us that secretly wishes to impress our friends with our wardrobes. I truly feel like Denise’s style would do that. Her style is casual while also making bold statements with reds and printed headbands.
2. Emily Fields from Pretty Little Liars
When they’re not trying to figure out who A is, the characters of Pretty Little Liars have always shown off their unique sense of style. Each character has their own fashion flare, but Emily in particular is bothsporty and edgy at the same time.
Why it would work for college: Emily is known for her athleticism, especially in swimming. While Aria might wear more cutting edge pieces, Emily’s wardrobe is perfect for varsity athletes constantly balancing their academic and athletic roles.
3. John Bender from The Breakfast Club
John Bender might not seem like boyfriend material, but he does have potential “boyfriend” style. It’s kind of hard not to feel like a rebel while wearing a worn-out denim jacket, and paired with the “I don’t care” attitude of this Brat Pack member, you’ll look like a walking teen icon from the 80s.
Why it would work for college: The over-sized jacket will keep you warm during those long commutes to school. It’s also suitable for weekend detentions (although I’ve never heard of that in college.) If that happens, then you’re a rebel for sure.
4. Cher Horowitz from Clueless
Once you admit to yourself that Clueless is like, the best movie/television show of all time, you’ll start to realize that the best part of it is the fashion. Literally every single character in the film, especially Dionne and Cher, has the grooviest style. Maybe I’m totally buggin’ to think that anyone else could pull of their preppy, plaid-filled wardrobe. As if!
Why it would work for college: Although Cher is in high school, her wardrobe was made for a college student. Cher somehow manages to look ready for a job interview (or in her case, a driving test) all the time, which is good for a college student embarking on pursuits in the real world.
5. Hilary Banks from Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
Jay-Z and Beyoncé
What they’re wearing: Jay-Z and Beyoncé were spotted courtside at the New York Knicks at Brooklyn Nets game. Hova repping the Nets in a grey snapback and grey crewneck sweatshirt, camp pants, and Air Jordan sneakers. Queen Bey wore a Stella McCartney embroidered top, black leather leggings, with blue suede shoes.
Why we love it: Let’s take a second to come to terms with the fact that neither one of us are Jay-Z or Beyoncé.
OK now that we’ve moved on let’s just appreciate the couple’s courtside style. Jay-Z is on trend in his camo pants and subtly yet stylishly shows support to the Brooklyn Nets in his sweater and cap. Beyoncé subtly pops with colours with the multicoloured monogrammed appliqués on her top and her blue pumps. The couple both sport chunky chain necklaces.
Takeaway: Showing off logos is a lazy way to try to be stylish, so do it subtly so as to not take all the attention away from your outfit. Yeah you might have paid tons of money for that designer item, but you don’t have to be a showoff about it. Just because you dropped a tons of bill on your outfit doesn’t mean you still can’t look cheap.
Lily Collins
What she’s wearing: The lead in the upcoming The Mortal Instrument series stepped out in a black Mulberry column dress at the 2012 British Fashion Awards.
Why we love it: Collins vamps it up this dark and moody look. The column dress elongates the petite actress and has subtle striped details adding a cool design detail to the gown. Collins is on trend with her dark lipstick and adds a cool accessory with her gold chain earring.
Takeaway: Dark lips are on trend but it can be tricky to find the right colour for you. Stay away from black unless you’re going for that emo look, opt for a dark colour that’s near black so as to still have that hint of colour.

One Direction’s new line of paint splattered jumpsuits were made by setting the guys loose on each other so they could graffiti each other’s butts with their own handprints. The OnePiece jumpsuits, which are retailed for a steep $160 or so to $290, are essentially cozy-looking onesies for adults.
In this behind the scenes look, posted by OnePieceUK, watch Harry get chased by a girl threatening to splatter him with paint. Inside, the guys get frisky too, slapping each other’s behinds all so your hiney could have the handprint of Zayn Malik on it.

Let’s face it. Comb overs are NEVER attractive. But lo and behold, this man has done the IMPOSSIBLE.
Showing us his time-consuming regime of lots of hairspray, combing and hair-drying, what this man creates is seriously “A F*CKING WORK OF ART.” Perhaps Donald Trump should take a lesson or two from this dude.
The holiday season is just around the corner so why not get your festive spirit on by adding some velvet into your winter wardrobe? Miley Cyrus already has. This Disney graduate was seen out and about earlier this week in New York City donning a velvet skirt paired with what looks to be a faux fur sweater and biker boots. I love the combination of the two textures! Perfect way to add hard edge into your look.
Do you want to experiment with textures? Try these pieces:

Pink
What she’ wearing: Pink wore a stunning bronze/taupe sleeveless leather and chiffon Catherine Deane gown at the American Music Awards.
Why we love it: What a great night for Pink, not only did she score major points with the dress, but her performance of “Try” wins all the awards! (Now would be a perfect time to go watch her performance, just make sure to come back to this page when you’re done.) The leather fabric adds some shine to the bodice giving it a cool metallic effect, plus the detailed cutouts create a stunning pattern that gives this look an edge. The feminine full-length pleated chiffon skirt contrasts the edgy top and elongates Pink’s body. All-in-all a standout look from many of the red carpet styles at the AMAs.*
Takeaway: Leather fabrics can come in multiple colours so try to choose one that’s the most versatile and compatible with your wardrobe, since leather can be quite expensive.
*As you probably know the American Music Awards happened this past weekend and there was a plethora of really well dressed celebrities in attendance. So as to not make this list dominated by AMA attendees I chose to highlight only one look, but here are two of my other favs from the night: Taylor Swift and The Wanted.
Emma Stone
What she’s wearing: Stone was photographed wearing Burberry Prorsum, consisting of a belted navy peplum bustier top paired with a green sequin pencil skirt, at the 2012 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards in N.Y.C.
Why we love it: Stone looks festive in sparkles and it’s hard not to notice her in this outfit. It feels refreshing to see a sequined skirt and not a top. The two fabrics (sequin and satin) seem to compliment each other when paired together plus navy and emerald green are a colour combo not often seen on the red carpet. The black waistband provides some contrast while accentuating Stone’s waist and creating that popular peplum effect.
Takeaway: Sequins can be fun but can be hard to incorporate into your everyday wardrobe. Save sequins for nights out or special events as opposed to daywear since little girls and fairy princesses tend to enjoy sequins all day round.
