Fantasia Barrino Says She Wanted To Die

Two weeks after being hospitalized for overdosing on aspirin and a sleep aid, the “American Idol” winner is speaking out, saying she wanted to die.

“I didn’t have any fight in me. I didn’t care about anything. I just wanted out,” the American Idolwinner, 26, tells VH1 in a newBehind the Music interview, airing 9 p.m. ET/PT Tuesday, the same day her new album, Back to Me, is released. “At that moment, I wanted out. I wanted it to be over with – all of it, all of that [expletive].”

She continues: “I just sat in the closet and looked at the mirror and took all the pills in the bottle. I wanted to go to sleep and just be at peace. I knew exactly what I was doing. You can’t accidentally take a whole bottle of pills.”

What made the successful singer, who’s preparing to release her third album, want to end her life? “I was tired of people doing me wrong, constantly, over and over again, dealing with my family – my father, dealing with men and their [expletive] – I was tired,” she says. “My head was hurting me. I was over it.”

Fantasia Barrino Receives Hate Mail

TMZ is reporting that Fantasia Barrino received a disturbing letter yesterday and is now staying low key.

The “Ameridan Idol” performed last night at The Pantages Theater and started to read her fan mail after her performance. One of the letters contained a variety of racial slurs and a line that read “go back where you came from and die.”

The author of the letter claimed to be a former security guard at Fox when Barrino was on “American Idol.” The LAPD have been contacted and an investigation is underway.

Fantasia Barrino Movie To Premiere Next Weekend

“American Idol” winner Fantasia Barrino will make her acting debut in the television movie about her life that airs next weekend on Lifetime.

“The Fantasia Barrino Story: Life is Not a Fairy Tale” tells the story of the Grammy-nominated Idol — how she became a teenage mother at 16, had to drop out of school to have her baby, but continued to pursue her dream. In 2004, she was named the American Idol.

Barrino will play herself, and will sing in the film as well. Emmy and Golden Globe award winner Debbie Allen directed the film.

The film premieres Aug. 19 at 9 p.m., and airs Aug. 20 at 8 p.m. and Aug. 21 at 9 p.m. as well.
