Child star DAKOTA FANNING has hit back at critics who attacked her parents for allowing her to film a simulated rape scene in her new movie.
Several religious groups have protested the movie HOUNDDOG, saying that having a 12-year-old in a rape scene was criminal. However, Fanning says some of the people who bashed the film’s concept “were attacking my family and me, and that’s where it got too far.
“Pretty much everybody who talked about it attacked my mother, which I did not appreciate. That was extremely uncalled for and hurtful.”
The controversial scene lasts less than a minute and no simulation of a sex act is depicted on camera. The young star insists the scene was not disturbing to shoot and says she filmed the close-ups of her face alone.
Fanning says even if she hadn’t been in the movie she would want to see it adding, “I know my mom would take me to see it.
“You have to prepare your children for things that happen in the world. Everything isn’t rosy.”

Former child star TATUM O’NEAL finds nothing wrong with DAKOTA FANNING appearing in a rape scene because the 12-year-old actress is just playing a part.
O’Neal was eight-years-old when she appeared in the film PAPER MOON with her father RYAN O’NEAL and was 10-years-old when she won an Oscar for her performance.
In the film HOUNDDOG, which is currently screening at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah, Fanning plays a girl who endures a graphically suggested rape scene.
O’Neal explains, “I think it’s her parent’s decision. I think she is a real actress, she really is an actress.
“I think she’s probably very smart and she probably looked and the script and said that she felt it was OK for her to do as an actress. I think it’s OK.”
The star admits it would be a different story if her 15-year-old daughter wanted to appear in the film adding, “Would I let my daughter? No. But I’m her mother. Dakota’s mother thinks it’s OK.”

Child star extraordinaire Dakota Fanning has signed on to voice the title character in the upcoming animated movie Coraline.
Henry Selick will write and direct the Laika Entertainment film, says Hollywood Reporter. Coraline will be based on Neil Gaiman’s best-selling children’s book of the same name.
“It’s sweet kismet,” says Selick, whose credits include The Nightmare Before Christmas. “Dakota is a very gifted actor who will bring great skill and emotional depth to the character. It will be an honour to work with her.”
The story is about a girl who walks into an alternate version of her life by going through a secret door in her new home. It’s a creepy read. At first, the parallel universe seems better than her real life. But then Coraline realizes her Other Parents want to keep her forever. Cue ominous soundtrack. But not too ominous, because the adults will get scared. Grown-up readers have reported that the book scared the hell out of them, but delighted their children.
