The pop bassist stated on his blog that “Fall Out Boy is on break … but I can’t predict that I’d ever play in Fall Out Boy again.”

If that’s not enough, then just hear what frontman Patrick Stump had to say.

“I am not in Fall Out Boy right now,” he told Spin.com.

Wentz suggested that the breakup will be permanent, for he stated that “a hiatus is forever until you get lonely or old – and I don’t plan on either,” via his Twitter account.

But, at the same time, they didn’t rule anything out.

“There is the possibility that FOB will play again with or without me,” said Wentz.

And, “one way or another, the band will always be around,” added Stump.

Wow.

Sugar, they’re going down swinging.

Posted on andPOP:

It’s been a busy news day for celebrity crime. Between the ongoing developments in both the Michael Jackson and Chris Brown cases, a few other notables managed to run into trouble today.

First off, Juelz Santana (most famous for “There It Go (The Whistle Song)”) was arrested for terroristic threats and posession of a weapon, according to MTV.com. Santana (whose real name is Laron James) was involved in an altercation with the mother of his son on Tuesday in New Jersey, when he threatened to harm her and wielded a kitchen knife as his weapon of choice, according to police. His rep is disputing the threat charges and said it was the neighbor’s, not Santana’s baby’s mama that called police. Santana was released later that day after posting a $5,000 bond but has not yet released a statement.

Next up: Patrick Stump, the voice of Fall Out Boy. (Well, technically, the singer. Everyone knows Wentz is the one in charge.) Stump was busted for driving without a valid driver’s license in Beverley Hills and hauled to the big house where he was detained four hours then released on $15,000 bail. He is only licensed to drive in Illinois. If Stump is charged with a misdemeanor, he could face six months in prison and/or pay $1,000 bail. In a statement to MTV, Stump agreed “ignorance of the law isn’t innocence. . . .But man, is my mom going to be pissed.” And to make matters worse, his awfully unflattering mug shot is circulating the web like wildfire.

In other pop-punk news, Travis Barker is embroiled in a very public dispute with Shanna Moakler, his ex-wife and mother of his two children, according to PerezHilton.com. Turns out when he was dropping the kids of at Moakler’s parents’ house in Rhode Island, a bit of a hissy fit erupted on both sides. Barker refused to leave when Moakler refused to let his nanny stay with the kids, so Moakler lost it and called the cops. Shortly after, Barker updated his Twitter saying the car of alleged child molester and alleged uncle of Moakler, Rick Sinnott, was parked at the house hence his reluctance to leave the kids there. Eventually, the cops disclosed Sinnott was not in the house so Barker left. There have been rumours Moakler asked police about a restraining order.

Compared to the rest of the criminals out there today, Gerard Butler is looking like a puppy dog. (Pun intended.) Earlier today, Butler was accused of being on one vicious side of a dog fight. Seriously. Butler was taking a break from the set of “The Bounty in Long Island” to take his pug Lolita for a walk. According to PerezHilton.com, Lolita was approached by a large Greyhound belonging to an elderly Queens couple and Butler was not happy. The couple are claiming Butler got rough with the dog, shoving its head into a fence and yelling at the couple to have it put down. On the other hand, Butler’s manager is saying he was very tame considering the large dog actually took a bite out of Lolita. At the end of it all, Butler ended up spending four hours in a local veterinarian’s office and reportedly gave $3,000 to another family there to cover their vet bills. Police haven’t released any conclusive details yet.

Wentz was celebrating the one year anniversary of his bar, Angels & Kings, following a performance by his band at the Blink 182 concert in his hometown of Chicago.

Eye-witnesses say an extremely drunk Simpson went up to her husband in the bar’s DJ booth and yelled at him to leave. “They fought,” reported a witness, ”she told him he was horrible in front of a whole group of people and made him leave his own party early. So they make a scene and leave the bar.”

The couple reportedly continued to fight once outside the bar, and Simpson chased a passerby down the street and forced him to erase photos he’d taken of the incident. Security then escorted the pair back to the corner where their driver picked them up in an SUV.

This follows an incident where Simpson publicly berated Wentz’s ex-girlfriend, Michelle Trachtenberg.

Posted on andPOP:

Fall Out Boy have re-recorded the theme song for “The Simpsons.”

Fans can hear the band’s version during the end credits of the show’s mid-season premiere tomorrow (Sunday).

As usual, the original theme by Danny Elfman will play during the opening credits.

The band, which takes its name from Radioactive Man’s sidekick on the show, spoke about their reasons for tackling Elfman’s song in an interview on the Fox website.

“The theme obviously mattered, and it didn’t just matter because it was the theme song to a good show, but it also was something that was very groundbreaking and very cool,” said singer/guitarist Patrick Stump, calling Elfman’s tune “timeless.”

“I know for me, my sense of humour and the way I perceive humour and the way I perceive a lot of things is based around growing up watching ‘The Simpsons,’ added guitarist Joe Trohman. “So being a part of this, for me, is legendary.”

Click here to watch the full interview.

And don’t forget to catch the band’s cover (as well as a voice guest appearance by Emily Blunt) in tomorrow’s episode, beginning 8/7c on Global and Fox.

Posted on andPOP:

Kanye West, Fall Out Boy and Kid Rock are bound for Washington, D.C. to headline the Youth Inaugural Ball, the Presidential Inaugural Committee announced Saturday.

The event at the Hilton Washington will air on MTV as part of its Inauguration Night coverage, “Be the Change: Live From the Inaugural Special,” beginning at 10 p.m. Tuesday.

Usher and Rosario Dawson will report live from the ball as MTV Guest Correspondents, joining MTV News Correspondent Sway Calloway.

The show aims to celebrate the huge youth voter turnout in the presidential election, as well as the work young people are doing to drive social change through volunteer service.

“This year, millions of young people got involved and worked to bring change to this country,” said PIC Executive Director Emmett S. Beliveau in a statement. “We wanted to make sure this Inauguration recognized the important role young Americans are playing in making our nation stronger.”

He added: “With MTV’s coverage highlighting national service and reaching millions of young people around the world, this event will be a great follow-up to Monday’s kickoff of the President-elect’s new national service initiative, ‘Renew America Together.’”

The Youth Inaugural Ball is one of 10 official inaugural balls being hosted by the committee that day.

Posted on andPOP:

The day before their Folie à Deux album arrived in stores, Fall Out Boy decided to spread some holiday cheer, and at the same time “stick it to the man.”

As they began to perform a free concert on Monday in New York City to promote their new album, the superstar band was met with a crowd of fanatics and also NYPD’s finest for the group’s lack of a permit.

After police told the crew that picking up any instruments would result in an arrest, the band decided to find the loop-hole; and out broke a sing-along.

“This isn’t looking good,” Wentz told frontman Patrick Stump. “But let’s try to do it anyway.”

So with air guitars in hand for Wentz and Trohman, knees as drum pads for Hurley, and Stump belching the ole’ vocal chords sans-microphone, the group began an epic chant with the surrounding fans.

The band then packed up and hustled away, as NYPD looked on, and drove out of sight in an awaiting van.

“I’m kind of bummed by all that, to be honest. That was going to be awesome,” Stump said. “Those cops back there — and I have no problem with the cops, trust me — but those cops were like the Grinch. They just took all the presents.”

“We wanted to do something free and really spontaneous in the same park where, like, Bob Dylan and all these folk singers used to perform in the ’60s. You know, with the same spirit,” Wentz added. “And that — no one was going to get hurt, it was just fans — that was supposed to be like that. But in the ’60s, they used to beat up folk singers, so, you know, at least no one got punched.”

Posted on andPOP:

After welcoming Bronx Mowgli, a baby boy, bassist Pete Wentz is taking a “breather”.

“Obviously, elephant in the room, Pete just had a kid, so we’ve been taking a bit of a breather — more so than we normally would. I think an FOB breather is still a lot busier than anybody else’s,” frontman Patrick Stump told MTV News, “We’ve done some surprise shows, because — we’ve all talked about it — whenever you promise kids an album, and then you push it back, whatever reason, however idealistic, you still feel like you’re letting them down a bit.

FOB’s “Folie à Deux” album has been pushed back to December 16, 2008.

“So we’ve gone out and done some surprise shows in really small clubs.” Stump continues to MTV News, “And it’s been pretty cool, because we haven’t been playing a lot of the new material, so we’re getting that out there before we start performing the new stuff. That’s kind of been our main thing right now, you know? Obviously, it’s more important than anything happening at home.”

Posted on andPOP:

Fall Out Boy have set a new world record for the most interviews given by a duo in one day.

Setting up at Los Angeles’ Premiere Studio, singer/guitarist Patrick Stump and bassist Pete Wentz spoke to 72 radio stations over 24 hours, beginning at 3 a.m. PST on Friday.

Interviews lasted between eight to 20 minutes, with the two stopping only for washroom and food breaks.

They managed to surpass the previous record of 57 interviews, set in May by two New Zealanders, after just 10 hours.

This wasn’t the band’s first attempt at setting a world record. Earlier this year, bad weather nixed their plans to play all seven continents in nine months.

Fall Out Boy are currently promoting their new album, “Folie A Deux,” which will hit stores Dec. 16.

FOB bassist Pete Wentz revealed the cameos in an email to MTV Thursday.

His message confirmed rumours that have been swirling about “Folie a Deux” since a blogger claimed last month to have been informed by “a reliable source” about appearances by Kanye West and Lil Wayne.

“We got Wayne and Debbie Harry cameos done,” Wentz wrote in his e-mail to MTV. “Pharrell produced a track too.”

However, Wentz did not comment on the rumoured collaboration with West.

“Folie A Deux,” the band’s fifth studio album, will be released Nov. 4.

It is the follow-up to last year’s “Infinity on High,” which also featured a notable camoe — a spoken intro from Jay-Z.

Posted on andPOP:

Fall Out Boy are getting ready to dance-dance in the far south.

The band will perform at a research station in Antarctica on March 25, in an attempt to enter the world record books as the first band to play on all seven continents in less than nine months.

According to bassist Pete Wentz, he came up with the plan on a whim.

“Well, I was just sitting around and wrote [FOB's manager] Bob [McLynn] an e-mail saying, ‘Let’s be the first band to go to all five continents’ ? only he wrote wrote me back, ‘There are seven,’ ” Wentz told MTV News.

“Since then we have been working on it. Lately it’s kind of gone into overdrive though, because after this flight to Antarctica there really aren’t any other ones we could get on until winter ends. And yes, we’ll be seeing penguins.”

Fall Out Boy want to do more than set a record, though. The band will be accompanied on their trip by Greenpeace, in the hopes of documenting the effects of global warming.

Posted on andPOP:

Fall Out Boy may be one of the most successful pop rock groups in the current scene but they won’t be joining the rest of music’s finest come Grammy night. And they aren’t happy about it.

The group topped the charts with their album Infinity on High but record sales don’t seem to matter to members of the Recording Academy. The boys are calling it the ultimate snub.

Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz has made the group’s reaction to the snub very public by posting on their blog just hours after learning they weren’t given a single nomination.

“The first reaction is jealousy mixed with a slight sense of entitlement. We just want to be a part of your club. We feel like the Orphans in the movie ‘The Warriors,’ when we are just dying to be the Baseball Furies,” Wentz wrote MTV News reports. “We play the events for you and the right parties all the time (which is a bit embarrassing either for you or us, not sure which, possibly both. It’s kind of like being invited to a birthday party and then not allowed to eat the cake).”

Critics and fans alike took Wentz’s rant with mixed receptions. Some say the face of Fall Out Boy should suck it up stop whining, while others side with the rocker and think the group deserves recognition.

“People are reading [what I wrote] and they’re saying, ‘Oh, you’re Kanye, you’re bitter.’ And I totally admit that,” Wentz told MTV News.

He went on to say that the Academy gives awards to the same group of artists every year. This year’s group includes Kanye West, Justin Timberlake, Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Fergie, The Foo Fighters and Amy Winehouse.

Fall Out Boy thinks they should be among the above names and Wentz doesn’t seem to be backing down from venting his frustrations.

“And if people wanted to shut us up, they should’ve just given us that f—ing Grammy nomination,” he told MTV News.

In an interview with NPR, Wentz says he would welcome the social controversy. “I would never come out and say I’m gay, because I’m not gay. There’s part of me that kind of wishes I was gay, and I think that comes from anybody constantly wishing they were in the minority and constantly wants to be fighting everybody off.”

Wentz credits David Bowie, Marilyn Manson and Kurt Cobain for influencing his love of sexual ambiguity. He sometimes switches “she” with “he” in his lyrics, and is known for kissing his bandmates on stage.

As for male makeup tips, Wentz suggests you “Smear it. Because if you’re a guy, you don’t want your makeup to look perfect.”

Posted on andPOP:

Both songstress Roisin Murphy and Fall Out Boy front man Pete Wentz badly injured themselves when they got carried away at separate concerts this weekend.

After his injury at his Voodoo Fest performance in New Orleans, Wentz posted about it on MySpace. He said he “ended up breaking the bone that connects my shin to my foot. No shows will be canceled. I am currently trying to get a ‘rocker’ boot so I can have a walking cast. Currently my foot is the size of a small car. If you see me at a show come sign my cast.”

Miles away in Russia, Murphy took head banging a little too literally and ran her face right into a chair. According to reports, she immediately left the stage and went to the hospital. The impact broke her superciliary bone, right above her eye socket. She lost a lot of blood, had a concussion and had to have surgery under general anesthetic. Her vision was not impaired.

Unlike Wentz, Murphy will have to cancel her next seven shows, which will be rescheduled for later in the year.

Posted on andPOP:

FALL OUT BOY bassist PETE WENTZ has been caught up in another brawl, after trading punches with a heckler at an industry-only gig in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The band were playing to 200 invited guests at a Spin magazine party at Chicago, Illinois club Schuba’s following a gig at the nearby Charter One Pavilion venue.

But Wentz became involved in a fight as the band tried to leave the club.

He tells MTV, “The guy was heckling me and the band, so were other people, most in good fun.

“But we get heckled onstage all the time, and while I’m a jerk, I’m not the kind of person who would ever lash out at someone simply over this.

“The truth is on the way out the door I had to pass directly next to the guy and I knew it, so I kept my head down and walked out. As I did, the guy reached out and grabbed me and said something I couldn’t really hear – it was a glorious use of the English language, though.

“As he grabbed me, I punched him. Yell all you want at me, say whatever, but in a situation like that I will defend myself.

“After that, of course, it got chaotic, (but) we have several independent witnesses that gave statements saying he grabbed me first.

“I am not worried over the outcome, as I was clearly in the right. Anything anyone else is saying or writing is simply not true.”

In January, Wentz was involved in a fracas with a security guard at a concert in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Posted on andPOP:

FALL OUT BOY star PETE WENTZ has denied rumours he is working with girlfriend ASHLEE SIMPSON on her next album.

The bassist/singer has branded gossip the pair are collaborating as “the silliest rumour I have read”, but admits he is impressed with Simpson’s forthcoming release.

He tells MTV news, “That’s pretty much the silliest recent rumour I have read.

“Mostly (because) I want no part in selling a relationship. I mean, it is not true. She hasn’t really played me any of (her album). I heard part of a demo that I liked, though. I mean, reports getting out are a bummer when they are absolutely not true. But at the same time you have to understand that this is part of the territory.”

And Wentz insists he doesn’t listen to gossip and rumours circulating about his personal life because it affects his Fall Out Boy bandmates.

He explains, “I don’t care much what people say about me, but I do care how it affects the rest of my band. I guess I’m just happy with aspects of my life that I haven’t been (happy with) in years, and I don’t feel like I should feel guilty for that. Sometimes, the rumours are laughable though.”

Posted on andPOP:

Elvis Costello is sitting across the aisle from him. Chuck D is sitting right in front of him. Stevie Wonder and Alicia Keys are singing on stage about 20 feet away.

It’s February of 2006, and Patrick Stump is sitting amongst the best artists in the world at the Grammy Awards, where his band Fall Out Boy is nominated for Best New Artist.

Then a piercing realization enters his head.

“What am I doing [here]? I’m a drummer who has been faking as a singer.”

Stump had never seen himself as a singer. But when Fall Out Boy began reaching certain plateaus – their breakout 2005 album From Under the Cork Tree has gone three times platinum, they’ve won two MTV VMAs – Stump realized it was time to get serious.

“I saw myself as a singer de facto,” he told andPOP before Fall Out Boy – Stump, bassist Pete Wentz, guitarist Joe Trohman and drummer Andy Hurley – took the stage in Milwaukee last week. “Now I really focus on it and I spend a lot of time practicing and working at it.”

The work, apparently, paid off. Fall Out Boy’s latest, Infinity on High, debuted at No. 1 when it was released in February. AbsolutePunk.net, the bible of punk music on the web, affirms, “Patrick Stump shines on each song, as his vocals have never sounded better.”

Fall Out Boy will be in Toronto on Saturday for a tour stop at the Molson Amphitheatre, a few weeks ahead of their trip to Northern Uganda with Invisible Children to raise awareness for the refugee crisis in the area.

In an insightful interview with andPOP, Stump talked about the band’s upcoming trip, his role as a frontman and more.

andPOP: So you’re right in the thick of the tour now.

Patrick: It calms down. It comes in waves as the tour goes on. The first week everyone’s just freaking out, making sure everything works, and then by the middle of the second week, everyone starts to calm down a little bit.

andPOP: The trip to Uganda is approaching. How are you feeling about that right now, still a few weeks away?

Patrick: I’m excited. I realize we’ve gotten to see a lot of the world but we’ve never been to the entire continent of Africa and there’s so many different things between cultures and languages, and with every culture and language, there’s a whole different set of problems, be them social, economic or even weather. So it’s really weird, kind of crazy thinking about that. The first time you see it, it will probably be totally alien to you. I’m nervous and excited about it but we’re also there for a reason.

andPOP: Does it put what you’re doing in perspective in a way, where you get to rock out every night on tour but now you get to see the positive effects of your celebrity?

Patrick: Ya, well no, I don’t really overestimate our reach. It’s more of a case of a best-case scenario thing. Hopefully we get people involved but I don’t necessarily assume that that’s going to happen. At the end of the day, you’re an entertainer. That’s the path you’ve chosen. Some entertainers command a certain amount of respect and I don’t want to jump to the assumption that we also command that respect. Obviously on this tour our audience is happy to see us and we’re happy to see them but at the same time, I just think in context sometimes. You have to be really careful how serious you get with whatever because at the end of the day, you are just an entertainer. My favourite show is The Office and it’s hilarious and we’re watching both Offices, the U.S. and UK one, and I think it would be a lot of less funny if in the middle of it, Ricky Gervais deadpanned the camera and started talking about the environment. As a musician, I have to be careful about it but if we inspire anybody I’m happy because it’s obviously important enough that we’re trying to do something about it.

andPOP: I know what you mean, but you don’t even have to open your mouth. As long as you go, you’re creating awareness. I’m going to mention it in my article and other people will mention it and each mention is one that wouldn’t have been discussed had you not planned to go.

Patrick: And that’s really what I’m hoping. I don’t know that directly we’ll do anything, but I’m hoping it’s a lot of indirect inspiration and hopefully a lot of people take note.

andPOP: You’ve also been signing posters in your blood. Where did that idea come from?

Patrick: The idea itself, the physical idea came from Kiss. They did that with their comic book in the late ’80s or early ’90s. It was that and I was talking to my aunt who actually lived in Africa for 20 years and she and I were talking about charities and it was right after the tsunami happened and she was saying that one of the things that’s frustrating as an aid worker, because that’s what she did, is that charities have a really big boom immediately after an event happens but down the line, three years later, there are still people in need of a lot of help. There are still people suffering from Katrina in the United States and we’re supposed to have out stuff together. So she said its frustrating that blood drives happen immediately after the fact but down the line when people really need blood, there’s none. So I wanted to throw that into the public consciousness too. At the same time, there’s probably some creepy little fan that really wants my blood.

andPOP: With all the success you’ve garnered in the past few years, were you at all nervous about how well Infinity on High would do?

Patrick: Its’ a really weird time to be making music right now. The industry is in a total gray area. What I said to everybody was I don’t care if it sells because right now, I don’t know what that means. The No.1 record in America right now is maybe selling a fraction of what the No. 1 record was selling in 1988, so there’s no way in knowing what that means anymore and quite frankly I don’t really mind. Its not like I was in it for the money or anything. I told everybody that I just wanted to see it tour because that’s when I know whether or not it worked, when I hear people sing it back, and that’s more fun to me anyway. That’s what I’ve been waiting on and I’m so happy to be out on it finally.

andPOP: The pop-punk label gets thrown around a lot. Is it something Fall Out Boy embraces or something you’d rather distance yourself from?

Patrick: We’re a pop punk band and [it's fine] if people choose to call us that, if that’s the quickest way to determine who we are or whatever. Because of that, we’re a punk band but we have a lot of pop influences. I wanted to combine that in as many different ways as I could. There’s a lot of fertile ground in music I think. I looked at bands like Talking Heads or Blondie or The Ramones. You look at that era of punk rock and they were all making pop punk. Blondie was playing disco and that was the most punk rock thing they could have done back then so those were my heroes on this record. I was really obsessed with Michael Jackson.

andPOP: And you’ve been playing Beat It on tour.

Patrick: That’s honestly like my favourite part of the tour. We were playing the riff in sound check and there’s just something so awesome about it.

andPOP: In a Rolling Stone article from last year, you expressed how you were uncomfortable being the band’s frontman. As time goes on, are you getting more comfortable?

Patrick: To come and see us at a show, you’ll really get me a frontman, which is what I am. We played Chain Reaction in Anaheim at a secret show right before we started this tour. I think that’s where I am most natural, and I was really nervous but when we get on stage and there’s all this pyrotechnics, you sort of find yourself in a character. When there’s fire going off behind you, some ancient rock God awakens within you. So it’s weird, I can get more comfortable when there are props and things but in general, the second I have to talk on stage, the second I make mistake on stage that’s when you’ll see me [uncomfortable].

andPOP: Last question, and take this however you want. If members of the band want to bring their girlfriends on tour, is that ok with the rest of the band.

Patrick: Absolutely, for sure!
