Singer, Erykah Badu, should keep her clothes on during music videos if she doesn’t want to be charged.

E! online reports that the 39-year-old singer is has been charged with a disorderly conduct citation for being naked in the legendary Dealey Plaza, the site of John F. Kennedy’s assassination, the Dallas Police Department announced. She will have to pay a $500 fine.“Window Seat,” shows her slowly walk down the street, stripping individual layers of clothing until she is nude. She says it was inspired by an indie pop duo Matt and Kim’s video for their track “Lessons Learned,” where they do the same thing, but in Times Square before being caught by police officers.

“The statements from the witness would rise to the level of disorderly conduct,” Deputy Chief Mike Genovesi said. “The issuance of a citation is pretty routine for that charge.”

According to reports, a woman had a problem with the video and filed an indecency complaint after she and her two young children witnessed Badu stripping for her scene in the video.

Surprisingly, it wasn’t the public nudity at a renowned historical site, that got Badu busted.

“To shoot that video, they would have had to get a special-events permit from the events office, and it would have had to specify what type of filming they were doing, what subjects they would use and any traffic control they would need,” Dallas Police Department Senior Corporal Janice Crowther told MTV news this week.

“They definitely did not get a permit,” she said.

Badu is merely facing a possible fine of disorderly conduct, if found guilty, a Class C misdemeanor, which is similar to getting a simple parking ticket.

However City authorities admit that no one would have had an issue if the star hadn’t gotten naked.

“None of this would have occurred had she stayed clothed,” Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway told the Dallas Morning News. “But since she didn’t, it elevated the need for making sure that we have policies in place that will protect folks and the integrity of the city as best we possibly can.”

Reps for Badu have not commented on the situation, but “Window Seat” directors Coodie and Chike told MTV that she was ready to get arrested last month.

“I think she really wanted to get arrested and even make a bigger message,” Coodie said.

Erykah Badu is leaving it up to her fans to decide when they’ll hear new music. The R&B diva has posted on her MySpace page urging her “friends” to post comments on her page. Once the post count reaches 100,000, Badu promises to post a new single within 24 hours.

In a blog post titled “NEW RECORD,” Badu writes: “i said 100,000 and then a new song in 24 hours right? how about i leave it up to you guys…and say i’ll put the new song up once the number is reached. so if you guys take until february to make the quota…then you’ll hear trhe new song in february.”

There’s no better way to up your MySpace popularity. Badu has not released a new studio album since 2003.
