Recently, we’ve seen Sacha Baron Cohen General Aladeen promoting his new movie The Dictator by doing all sorts of shenanigans, like dumping ashes on Ryan Seacrest or “murdering” Italian actress Elisabetta Canalis.
The guy never wavers or goes out of character and there’s hardly an eye flicker to ruin the joke. That’s why it’s so interesting that Sacha Baron Cohen gave a rare interview dressed out of character. Naturally, it was BBC, because if you’re going to do a serious interview, you may as well do it with them.
Cohen looked pared down in a beige suit without the beard and entourage of female guards. We also got a chance to hear his real voice and swanky British accent. Speaking to BBC’s Will Gompertz in Cannes, he joked that granting this interview out of character was probably a mistake.
Previously, he never granted personal interviews because he was afraid his characters would be compromised when people recognized him. Although doing interviews as Ali G and Borat could be seen as a publicity stunt, he said it was to protect the comedy and the movie.
He also said his new film The Dictator was developed because he always found Gaddafi “hilarious,” which is as good a reason as any.

Sacha Baron Cohen will apparently do anything to sell tickets for his new movie The Dictator. Including murder. Dressed as his character Admiral General Aladeen, he was seen “killing” Italian actress Elisabetta Canalis in Cannes.
It was all fun and games at first and it looked like the duo were just fooling around. He showed her his goods and she took photos with her digital camera. The next thing you know, she disappears and the General throws a body bag into the water from his yacht. It’s unclear whether the act was revenge for her kicking him in the nuts or if it was even her in the body bag. Either way, the pictures are irrefutable proof.
With all these publicity stunts I feel like I’ve already seen the movie. Sometimes they’re hilarious but save something for the screen won’t you?
It was only a matter of time. George Clooney and super hot Italian girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis have broken up. The two dated for two years, and now the time has come for George to trade her in.
TMZ reports the couple issued a statement saying ”We are not together anymore. It’s very difficult and very personal, and we hope everyone can respect our privacy.”
We think George is going to aim really young next girl around, like a 21 year old blonde. The interesting part is most guys in their fifties would look weird with a really young girl – but not George. He will look quite natural.
George Clooney spent some time in Sardinia this week meeting the parents of his current flame, Italian actress Elisabetta Canalis. Radar Online is reporting that the couple spent two days visiting the European island, presumably to make sure their syrupy couple goodness was equally spread over the entire geographical area.
Clooney dedicated a good chunk of the trip to Elisabetta’s hometown to bonding with her family, but he wasn’t shy about spending some…ahem, alone time with his beau at the romantic Hotel Villa Las Tronas.
What can we say? A gentleman knows what he wants and how he wants it.
In all seriousness, the experience must have been a little weird for Canalis’ parents. Georgey is probably closer to their age than their daughter’s! Alas, true love prevails over all, especially in an enduring relationship like this one.
Aww, who are we kidding?! Clooney goes through young, hot women like crazy. At least he treats them well and it’s a mutually understood agreement!
What do you think? Could Clooney meeting the parents mean he’s finally settling down with someone?
RadarOnline.com reports that George Clooney’s girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis has been implicated in a cocaine scandal. The alleged incident happened in two nightclubs in Milan during 2007.
“I remember taking cocaine with Elisabetta Canalis and two others,” Karima Menad, a model-turned-prostitute, told prosecutors in documents obtained by Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, according toUsMagazine.com.
“We were in The Club and it was December 2007,” Menad continued. “We had been at a party of some famous, rich celebrity whose name I cannot remember. I don’t remember who brought the drugs but we all took it.”
The documents continue on in great detail about the incidents.
“Their job was to encourage these customers to drink alcohol as to increase the table’s bill, followed up by sex off premises,” prosecutor Frank Di Maio stated in the documents. “They were often given cocaine for free by those who want to sit at a table of famous people … they want the visibility that comes from being seated at a central table, and to be seen with models, or celebrities from fashion, entertainment and sport.”
Canalis and Clooney weren’t dating during 2007 when this allegedly occurred. One has to believe however George knew what he was getting himself into prior to officially dating Canalis.
