Coldplay and Duffy scored four nods each, including album of the year and best British single, to top the list of Brit Award nominations announced by organizers Tuesday.

The awards for the U.K.’s annual music honours will be handed out Feb. 18 at London’s Earls Court.

Coldplay was nominated for their fourth studio album “Vida La Vida or Death and All His Friends,” one of 2008′s bestselling CDs, and the single “Viva La Vida.” The band was also nominated for best group and best live act.

Meanwhile, Duffy is in contention for her debut record “Rockferry” and her single “Mercy.” The Welsh soul singer also got nods for best female solo artist and breakthrough act.

The best album nominees are rounded out by Elbow for “The Seldom Seen Kids,” which won the coveted Mercury prize last year, Radiohead for “In Rainbows” and The Tings Tings for “We Started Nothing.”

In other categories, the nominees for best international group and best international album were the same five acts — AC/DC, Fleet Foxes, Killers, Kings of Leon and MGMT.

Organizers also announced that indie-soul act Florence and the Machine have won the critics’ choice award for 2009.
