“Silver Springs” — Lykke Li
Lykke Li’s recent cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Silver Springs” puts a new spin on the emotional classic. While Lykke Li may not have as strong a personal connection to the song as Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks, she manages to give the song new life with her expressive vocals pounding with reverb and a slow buildup to that heart wrenching chorus. Move over Adele, I think I just found my new breakup song. You can catch Li’s version of “Silver Springs” on the upcoming Fleetwood Mac cover album Just Tell Me That You Want Me: A Tribute To Fleetwood Mac, released August 14.
“Mean Girls” — Rachel Crow
Finally, an up and coming pop star who doesn’t rely on sex and partying to sell her first single. Fourteen-year-old ex X-Factor contestant Rachel Crow is a breathe of fresh air in the bullying themed music video for “Mean Girls,” off her debut self-titled EP. The video features candid shots of young girls who have been victims of bullying, and Crow gives a heartfelt performance urging her audience to stay strong and never give up. The girl is extremely talented and seems to have a good head on her shoulders. Hopefully future pop stars will learn something from Crow.

Yes, there is such a show called Hip Hop Squares and it premiered last night on MTV2. It’s like Hollywood Squares but instead of minor TV stars it features rap legends.
Last night’s panel included Fat Joe, DJ Khaled, Kat Graham, Donnell Rawlings, Tech N9ne, Ghostface Killah, Childish Gambino, Mac Miller, and MGK. Ummm, yea, that’s all. Just everyone.
Childish Gambino was the standout of the night, correctly answering a dirty question about the Olympics. He quickly identified the “snatch” and the “clean and jerk” as weight-lifting moves (get your mind out of the gutter).
If I was a contestant on the show I’d definitely pick Donald Glover, considering he’s a comedian, actor and pop culture nerd on top of being Childish Gambino. Who’d you choose?

Who isn’t Nicki Minaj working with these days? The singer’s new track “Champion” leaked online and it features a star-studded cast, including Drake, Young Jeezy and Nas. We also recently heard the singer with Chris Brown and DJ Khaled.
The song was produced by Da Internz and is part of her forthcoming album Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. In the song, Minaj and her crew reflects on their rise to the top and their goal to stay there. Minaj proves she can hold her own with hip hop’s elite.

“Take It To The Head” is a star-riddled song by DJ Khaled featuring Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne and Chris Brown, and apparently they all want to get drunk and take alcohol “to the head.”
“Now we gonna get fucked up/ No excuses, no apologies,” Chris eloquently sings. It seems like DJ Khaled likes dropping these all-star songs that feature an array of performers, though we all know they’re the star acts. He must have one big rolodex.
This is the first single off DJ Khaled’s new album That Will Be Called Kiss the Ring. The track was produced by The Runners (who did Rick Ross’ “Hustlin” and Jeezy’s “Go Getta”).
