It has been quite a journey for American Idol season 11 winner Phillip Phillips. After winning in May 2012, he went from his parent’s pawn shop to having a platinum hit with “Home,” which also happened to be the official song of the US women’s gymnastic’s team during the London Games.
That’s a lot to take in in a short amount of time.
His debut album The World from the Side of the Moon was released on Nov. 19. In this exclusive video, Phillips talks about his journey: “Having this all happen in such a short amount of time is just a blessing because I love music so much. It’s very therapeutic for me and I’m sure it is for so many other people. To be able to do that, to say I do this for a living, is just amazing,” he said.
In the midst of travelling and meeting so many new people, he has managed to stay grounded, remembering those moments at the beginning of his career: “I remember playing gigs and there’d be like five or ten people there,” he said. “I remember those small gigs when nobody was really listening. Now everybody’s just so into it when I go out to play and it’s an amazing feeling.”
Rising singer Christina Perri is about to get the ‘Glee’ treatment.
Tune in to ‘Glee’ tomorrow, May 10, to watch Lea Michele sing a great performance of Christina Perri’s single ‘Jar of Hearts,’ certified platinum in Canada. Perri’s debut album “lovestrong.” also debuts tomorrow, featuring the single.
The up-and-commer was waiting tables in LA when her friend passed along Perri’s demo to her friend Stacey Tookey, a choreographer on the hit show ‘So You Think You Can Dance?’
Taken by the raw, defiant break-up song ‘Jar of Hearts,’ Tookey used it as the backdrop for a choreographed piece that aired on Fox’s ‘So You Think You Can Dance?’ The song hit it big with the audience, who began downloading it from iTunes like crazy – sending ‘Jar of Hearts’ into the Top 10 on the iTunes Pop chart and into the Top 15 on the Overall chart overnight.
This, naturally, lead to a record deal with Atlantic Records and appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Conan and other national outlets. Now, with a double platinum selling single already under her belt, Perri is getting the ‘Glee’ treatment. What can be more flattering?

Jason Derulo is like one of those multi-purpose Swiss Army knives that presents a new feature every-time you use it.
At any moment he can be a well-rounded singer, songwriter, dancer, and actor, and would technically boast a quadruple threat, but you can’t be too sure with a guy like this.
You never know when he’s going to show you another part of his versatility.
His most recent example of those surprise features, was his role in MTV’s made-for-TV-movie Turn The Beat Around which premiered on February 26. Derulo shows off his skills by playing a recording star, and also delivers a high-energy dance performance.
But his role on the TV screen is just a small ripple effect of the Miami-born’s overall talent- which people have begun to take note of.
It’s the reason why he’s been the opening act for Lady Gaga during her Monster Ball tour since November 2009. And it’s the reason why his two singles so far -Whatcha Say and In My Head- have both ranked in the top ten on a bunch of music charts across the globe. Whatcha Say has made the most headlines, grabbing the no. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100, and gaining double-platinum status in the U.S.
Oh yea, and this is all been accomplished before the release of his self-titled debut album, which drops on March 2.
