In the world of celebrity news, there’s no shortage of hits and misses. This week, Dane Cook jokes about the Aurora shooting and Zac Efron looks good in the Paperboy trailer.
HIT: The London Olympics Opening Ceremony

The Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire) directed spectacle was AMAZING. While there were some questionable moments (like Sargent Pepper mingling with the Industrial revolution crowd), everything else was fantastic. The Queen jumped out of a helicopter with Daniel Craig, Mary Poppinses brought down the evil Lord Voldemort, an appearance from my queen J.K. Rowling, the music through the ages bit, Paul McCartney, CORGIS… the list goes on. It was just amazing.
MISS: Dane Cook continues to not be funny with a terrible Aurora shooting joke

The “comedian” somehow thought it was a good idea to make a joke about the Dark Knight screening in L.A. a week after the incident. “The Batman movie is so bad,” said Cook, “had the killing spree not occurred, the people inside of the theater would have been begging for someone to shoot them.” He’s since apologized after the internet raged on him, and called it a “bad judgement call.” Three things: One, it was a bad judgement call for whoever gave you stage time. Two, this is the most insensitive joke I think I’ve ever heard. Comedy can be used to talk about hard issues but this didn’t even attempt to do that. Three, did Cook watch Dark Knight Rises? EVERYTHING ABOUT IT WAS SO GOOD. Much better than Employee of the Month.

In the world of celebrity news, there’s no shortage of hits and misses. This week, Christian Bale visits the survivors of the Colorado shooting, and LMFAO is accused of firing a bikini girl for being big boned.
HIT: Christian Bale visits the Colorado theatre shooting memorial and meets the survivors
The Batman star and his wife visited the Aurora, Colorado hospital where seven survivors are being treated for their injuries after the mass shooting during a screening of The Dark Knight Rises. He asked staff beforehand not to notify the media as he wasn’t there to represent the studio, but instead, himself. Bale reportedly spent two and a half hours at the hospital and also paid a visit to the memorial near the movie theater. It’s nice to see that he went beyond his duty as the star of the franchise, by answering the pleas of the Facebook campaign asking him to visit. He became a real hero to all Batman fans. We can now add Bale to the list of “celebrities who are awesome.”
MISS: Justin Bieber, Drake Bell Twitter drama

Former Nickelodeon star Drake Bell tweeted it was ridiculous for artists to have autobiographical films when they haven’t been around for all that long, referring to Katy Perry. Later, he said his account had been hacked and he “… wouldn’t randomly bash @katyperry….bieber however lol.” Then things went CRAY. Fans tweeted the expected “you’re just jealous” comments, but one also sent him a photo of a knife and he received threats of death by stoning. This is why you don’t upset Beliebers people! They mean business.
HIT: Rupert Grint runs with the Olympic Torch

I hate watching sports on TV, but I love the Olympics. I also love all things British, and that includes Harry Potter. I was super stoked to see Rupert Grint run with the torch and it brought a happy, proud tear to my eye. Now, if the Olympic Committee has Doctor Who’s David Tennant run with the torch like he did in one episode, I may just start bawling. Please higher beings, make it happen.

Photos of Anne Hathaway as Catwoman have surfaced. Anne of course will be playing Catwoman in the upcoming Batman film, Dark Knight Rises.
The photos were first spotted on the official website, TheDarkKnightRises.com. We don’t think anybody can argue that she looks pretty good!
Though it has been states many times over, The Dark Knight Rises will in fact be Christopher Nolan’s last Batman installment. News this week surfaced in regard to unused footage of Heath Ledger in the role of the Joker. Rumor had it that Nolan was planning on using some of this footage for the new film.
According to Comingsoon.net, Nolan spoke to Thompson on Hollywood to refute the rumors about the Joker footage and give some ambiguous information (in true Nolan fashion) about The Dark Knight Rises. Nolan said that the rumors are all false. The Joker will not appear in the new film. Nolan did reveal that Tom Hardy, who we have been speculating about for some time, will have an important role in the film. Of course Nolan didn’t say whether Hardy will be playing a hero or a villain. Nolan loves his secrets!
The director is still working on the script which is a collaborative effort between him and his brother Jonathan. The script is due in January and Warner Bros. has set the release date of the film for mid July right in the middle of summer blockbuster season.
