After a two-week hiatus for another popular televised competition (wink wink), So You Think You Can Dance is finally back! And following on the heels of the USA’s stellar performance in said competition, the pressure is certainly on for the Top 14 to deliver.
This week, the dancers are faced with the monumentally nerve-wracking task this week of recreating Emmy-winning choreographer/resident goddess Mia Michael’s routines from previous seasons while keeping in mind the fact that four of them will be going home almost immediately afterward. You can’t see it, but I’m sympathy-sweating right now. But, the SYTYCD-geek in me can’t wait to see those old routines!
Here are my favourite moments from this week’s episode:
1. Michael Nunn and Billy Trevitt
While I love a celebrity guest judge, and Jesse Tyler Ferguson is my new BFF (though he doesn’t know it yet), I love it even more when they bring in the professionals. The “Ballet Boys” had some really enlightening comments and added a nice balance to the campiness of Mary’s shouting and Nigel’s slightly-lecherous old man commentary. Who else cringed when he mentioned “Fifty Shades of Grey”? Also, I thought it was adorable (albeit slightly pretentious) how they didn’t know any of the routines or who SYTYCD alum Titch Twitch was.
2. Holy props, Batman
Mia Michaels’ group performance had everything: rope climbing, roses, girls in hoop skirts, and a single, stolen kiss. While it was almost overwhelming at times, the dancers’ pulled it off flawlessly, swinging from those ropes like Gothic Victorian Tarzans. Yes, that’s a thing. Well, now it is.
3. Janelle and Dareian’s Bed routine Read more…
Considering cats spend about 13 to 16 hours a day napping, it’s not surprising Mr. Grump-tart here doesn’t want to see or hear this little girl perform a prized traditional folk dance. He tries to bear it at first, circling the room to blow of steam, but after a while he takes things into his own hands. Note: Watch the video to the end.

This week, we get to learn a little bit more about the Top 16 dancers. The weirdest tidbits? Lindsay has a foot phobia, and Eliana killed her pet bird by sleeping on it. Maybe we learned a little too much. And while the dancers’ unusual secrets might be memorable, their routines this week were definitely not. A lot of the routines didn’t quite hit the mark, and got some rough critiques from the judges. Better luck next time?
Here are the top five performances from this week’s episode of So You Think You Can Dance:
1. Charlie Chaplin-esque group routine
This number focused mysteriously around a bright red umbrella. With a bit of TV magic, the umbrella stood out beautifully against the colourless dancers. The costuming was also brilliant, complete with fake mustaches, baggy pants, and suspenders. Even the choreography seemed to mirror Chaplin’s jerky movements and odd characters. All in all, a very cool routine.
2. Amber and Brandon “sultry and soulful” jazz
I don’t know about the audience, but I felt like I needed a fan and a glass of water watching this routine. It was as hot and steamy as a summer in the deep South. Amber looked completely in her element and Brandon was a strong and supportive partner. My favourite part? When Brandon pushed a chair across the stage, which Amber sat on without even looking at it! How do they do that?!
3. Amelia and Will’s quirky contemporary Read more…
It’s just a little disheartening to see a robot dance better than you. Performing an evolution of different dances such as the ‘YMCA’, ‘Cotton Eye Joe’ and ‘Can’t Touch This’, this robot can do it all. That being said, I think it’s about time I brush up my dance moves.
And to think knowing all the steps to the ‘Macarena’ or the ‘Chicken Dance’ were worthy accomplishments!

Listen young sparrow, as horrible as things might get this unforgiving world, all you can do is buck up, press play on your stereo and dance like Napoleon Dynamite in a crowd of high school seniors. Just let your cray out to whatever song fits your freak.
This student performed a choreographed dance to “Magical Dream Time” by Cute Explosion at a Talent Night Dance. It was the first time he had ever performed in front of a crowd and while he forgot a few moves, he worked out his improvisation skills. It’s pretty much the best dance we’ve EVER seen.

Looks like flash mob marriage proposals are the new craze.
Forming a group of little girls to dance to Cobra Starship’s “You Make Me Feel…” and Bruno Mars’ “Marry You”, this man proposes to his longtime girlfriend.
While I think the Bruno Mars song is rather overplayed and kind of overused, this is an adorable proposal.
However, I just have one question.
How did he find so many little girls for the flash mob?
Regardless, congrats!!

Euro 2012 isn’t only about soccer. As this fan from Ukraine proves, going to a soccer match can be a fun dance party of one as well.
You gotta love the unique personalities of these fans. Personally, I want to see him dance in a club.

I love summer. I mean, how can you not? The beautiful weather, the breezy clothes and the return of So You Think You Can Dance! Although the Canadian version was cancelled (I’ll try not to hold it against you, Nigel), the original is back on prime time for its ninth season!
Here are the most memorable moments from the season premiere of “So You Think You Can Dance”:
1) The show started appropriately with its New York City auditions. The first featured dancer was Amelia Lowe, a young spritely thing who is a dead ringer for Louise Brooks and has a love for all things 1920s. She danced a routine to Non, Je ne Regrette Rien by Edith Piaf (yes, that song from Inception) that sent her straight through to Vegas.
Brothers Johnnathan and Joshua Gerard have created the “Indian dubstep”.
Complete with a combination of gimmicks and miming, the boys perform the first “hair-tutting” and “shoulder blade tutting” ever seen on video!
This is pretty awesome. Though I can’t imagine how weird it would feel if I attempted the “shoulder blade tutting”.
I think I would probably dislocate my shoulders!!
If anyone is qualified to talk about dance music and it’s influence on popular music, it’s Steve Aoki. He’s built his own record label, established a reputation for his insane live shows and his music speaks for itself. In this interview Steve talks about pop stars stealing from dance music, his newest music video and a particular Selena Gomez song that got his attention.

I used to watch Degrassi back when Drake played Jimmy, a character who lost the use of his legs after being shot by a student gunman. Drake is a lot different than his character but decided to pay homage by debuting the “Wheelchair Jimmy” dance during a live performance in California. He was performing his hit single “The Motto” when he performed the move.
While a lot of people cheered him on, others found it offensive, though I doubt very much that he meant any foul.

Two-year-old William Stokkebroe has some serious jive moves — like Elvis Presley-good moves. After seeing his parents and some of their fellow dancers shimmying he decides to share what he learned from them to a massive audience at a Galla.
William occasionally punctuates his impressive steps with Michael Jackson style shouts and when he finishes the dance he takes a well-earned bow and wipes his hands clean like his happy feet are no big deal.

In celebration of raising over $158,000 dollars in fundraising campaign for the Broadway musical Allegiance, George Takei celebrates the success.
With the reluctant permission of husband Brad Altman, Takei released a video of himself demonstrating a “happy dance” to LMFAO’s “Sexy and I Know It.”
I haven’t heard of Allegiance the Musical before today but seeing how adorably awkward the Star Trek actor’s little jig is, I am now quite intrigued.

I guess it’s “Foxx/Fox” power in today’s viral videos. First we see Jamie put on a show for his friends, then a banana scares Megan.
Jamie Foxx does his sexy dance
Another reason to love Jamie Foxx:
watch him dance like Michael Jackson in nothing but red briefs and a baseball hat. Although the footage was taken ten years ago at an after-party at Jamie’s L.A. mansion, TMZ just unearthed the footage.
Foxx had swagger while dancing in front of a group of friends to Prince’s “I Wanna Be Your Lover.”
Megan Fox
Megan Fox stopped by the Ellen Degeneres show and talked about everything from tattoo removal to working at a Florida smoothie shop. Once a week someone had to dress up as a piece of fruit at the shop and badger customers. Naturally, she took on the important role of the giant banana. But before she has time to finish her story, a giant banana creeps up behind Fox and scares her. Ellen scares her guests so much, when are they going to catch on?
In inconsequential viral videos of the day we present an endless loop of a nameless Toddlers and Tiaras brat dancing inappropriately to annoying music. Thank you masher Owen B…. thanks for destroying our brains.
Canadian singer Carly Rae Jepsen got major kudos a little while ago when Selena Gomez shared an Instagram photo of her boyfriend Justin Bieber grinning while listening to “Call Me Maybe.
Those two celebrities, along with Ashley Tisdale and a few other relevant celebrities, released a homemade video of them dancing to the song. I gotta say, it’s a pretty fun video and it’s nice to see them supporting a fellow artist. We usually see celebs glammed out for the red carpet or made out to be rivals in tabloids so it’s nice to see them hanging out during their downtime, being regular teens.
We’re not sure where this came from or what purpose it serves, but it’s possibly the most awkward music video we’ve ever seen. Watch this bikini-cad, tiara-wearing girl dance shake uncomfortably next to a gigantic cat and fly over psychedelic clouds.
Now that everyone is talking about her newest album Jumping Trains (2011) we wanted to find out what she has planned for her live shows. In today’s music industry everyone needs something to take their stage performances over the top. So we tried to help her out. Unfortunately, JoJo wasn’t exactly thrilled about our suggestion.
Just a few days after the Season 4 So You Think You Can Dance Canada premier, fans all over the country are geared up to embark on this year’s journey to find Canada’s next favourite dancer. Following a number of young hopefuls during the ups and downs of a difficult on air dancing competition, the new season and its judges promise to be bigger and better than any season prior. As judge Tré Armstrong reveals, viewers will be treated to sexy dancing and a lot of talent as early on as the first three minutes of the season.
“I’m anxious and nervous and excited and overwhelmed at the same time to see the show tonight,” Armstrong told andPOP on Monday, a mere few hours before the premier. “[It’s the] best season yet for sure.”
However, it’s definitely not all fun and games for the contestants. As every other season, this time around each competitor who the judges are unconvinced should proceed to Finals Week in Toronto must come face to face with their worst nightmare – a little thing called “Blake Boot Camp.”
“It’s definitely the first moment where their eyes really kind of start to bulge out of their heads and say wow, okay, I didn’t know how hard this is going to be,” says Armstrong’s co-judge and choreographer, Blake McGrath. “We do that to prepare them for the shows. It’s a really gruelling process.” The experience, which McGrath titles interesting, fun, and crazy, definitely takes its toll on the contestants’ nerves. “I think people throw up this year, actually,” the judge reveals.
Britney Spears debuted her Femme Fatale tour in Sacramento, CA last night, reports Perez Hilton.
Dressed in a glittery bikini, Spears opened the show with her hit ‘Hold It Against Me’ and bonus track ‘Up N’ Down.’
Spears also reportedly sang one of her classic ballads, ‘Don’t Let Me Be The Last To Know,’ live for the first time in 9 years.
She also sang her smash ‘Till The World Ends,’ where she flies over the audience with a pair of over-the-top glitzy wings. Who else would do this?
My opinion, after watching the videos, is that she’s definitely regained a little bit of spark that she’s been missing. Although she lip-synched and her dancing is not in tip-top shape, and it probably never will be, Spears looks like she is genuinely enjoying herself and is definitely more into it. The girl can still seduce an entire audience – she looks great!
Check out some videos after the jump!
